The light reflects so well off the the candle wick detailing that runs from top to bottom. It is blue with beautiful-highly detailed clear glass. All components are in excellent condition and are from the mid century era. The shade and stem compliment each other nicely. The shade measures about 12 inches in diameter and is in wonderful condition with no chips or cracks. The metal components have been sanded and repainted a glossy white. The original Leviton porcelain socket has been rewired and accepts a 150 watt bulb. This amazing light fixture hangs 16 inches from the ceiling. The mounting hardware will be included. People just tend to lump it into the Mid-Century Modern category. However, a study of lights of this era reveals a very particular aesthetic. I can only assume that the men and women who created magnificent pre-war lighting fixtures were still around after the war. Imbedded within their experience was an artistic ability and color sense that was soon to vanish. What I find so attractive about this Era-That-Has-No-Name is the fascinating combination of the past and future. The future is represented by the basic design of 1940s fixtures; they don’t really look like pre-war fixtures. The past is rich colors and lush details. By the latter 1950s the past was extinct as the Atomic Age ushered in a mania for The New and simplicity reined. Houses from the 1940s are also very different than those from the 1950s. They may also at a glance look the same but there are many people. Like me, who delight in the differences. For a small fixture(it is 10-inches wide) the fixture has a lot of aesthetic power. While originally intended for commercial settings. Today such a fixture is highly valued in residential settings. Imagine, for example, the fixture over your dining table. Wow! The fixture has a swivel joint at the top. Thus. It could hang from a very shallow vaulted ceiling. The fixture accepts a single long-necked 300W bulb. The bulb shown is 200W. And is not long-necked. A long-necked bulb will hang down lower, and offer better light. Wholly restored and with new wiring. This fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed! DETAILS: The fixture accepts one standard base long-necked 300W bulb. COLOR: Aluminum. White. SIZE: See above. CONDITION: There’s no overt damage. Except for the bottom bowl. The fixture is aluminum. As is standard for vintage aluminum, there are subtle scuffs and dings. The upper edge of the socket housing has a small, not obvious dent.
