I have for auction this fabulous gilt bronze traditional hall lantern. It is french and was found in a house clearance here in the South of France, so it is vintage, I have not cleaned the lantern except for the glass, I understand that some dealers do not like their metal ware cleaned, but I am sure it will be much brighter still with cleaning if you want it to be. I would think it will date to C1930s, it is wired for use, but this is old wiring and with all second hand electrical items, it is always wise to have this checked out before use, it is designed to take two standard edison screw type light bulbs, the light bulbs displayed in the chandelier are for display only and are not part of this auction. This classic style of hall lantern is highly sought after at present, you often see them displayed in beautiful homes in the high end interior ... moredesigners magazines, adding great style and class to any entrance hall. This lantern is a beautiful early example, it is lovely quality, it would have been very expensive when first purchased. What I love so much ab out this lantern is the wonderf u l glass cylinder shaped liner. The glass has so much charact e r. That you get with early glass, such as the wavey fluid like effect. It emphasizes it's age and adds great charm. The maximum drop from the ornate ceiling rose is approx 19.5" or 50cms, this could be easily lengthened or shortened by adding or removing chain, the diameter is approx 7.25" or 18.5cms. Each sconce is 25 1/2" by 11 1/2" by 5" deep and weighs 4 pounds. They are beautiful with grapes. Leaves and a cat tail or wheat stalk type foliage. We are pleased to offer this beautiful pair of antique to older vintage wall lamps. The pair date to the early half of the 20th century and still retain the old. Blue, Union Made stickers. The pair of a gilded brass or bronze with exquisite and detailed patterns in the French, Louis XVI manner. They have a large, round center back plate with deep relief, neoclassical pattern. There is a ribbon detail at the top and a large, corded tassel detail at the bottom. Each has two lighted arms with flower pattern. Each arm houses 5 leaded, cut bead and spear crystals. Each arms utilizes one 40 watt bulb. In the center of the lighted arms is a smaller appendage that houses one bead and spear crystal. Each sconce contains 11 bead and spear crystals. Each sconce still retains the original, wall mount screw which is located in the center of the round back plate. This is a beautiful pair of wall lamps. Ormolu French Basket style vintage gilt bronze and crystal chandelier
This is a gilt bronze and faceted glass(crystal? chandelier done in a traditional Ormolu French basket style. Genuine antique Ormolu(metal heavily layered with gold) is prohibitively expensive and literally cost people their lives due to the processes used in creating those pieces. Most"ormolu" these days are really gilt bronze. This chandelier is a mid to late century piece that measures approximately 18" X 10" The basket structure is interlaced throughout with beaded wire. There are 5 layers of faceted glass(crystals? of varying sizes with no missing pieces. There are floral finials on the top and bottom. There is an ornate floral ring around the top of the basket.
