Vintage Hanging School House Light Milk Glass
This vintage school house light fixture was removed from a school in North Carolina. Glass shade is in great condition. No chips or cracks, globe is 12" at the widest part and 8" high. Fixture has an 18" drop from ceiling to shade making the overall height from ceiling to bottom of glass approx. 26" Globe has very nice shape, slightly different than the usual school house light. The fixture part is an antique golden tone. Newer porcelain light socket in good shape and rewired with new clear wire. There is some ceiling paint on the top edge of the fixture(can be seen in the picture) where it was mounted at the ceiling. This is a rare and unique wall mounted light fixture. All hardware is included. The light hangs from a metal(cast iron? rod. And can swivel back and forth. The wiring. In my uneducated opinion, will need to be, at the minimum, repaired, and possibly replaced. Where the metal rod comes down, there is exposed cloth wiring about 4 inches in length where there should not be any. The total drop length of the light is 25" The wiring is of the cloth type and in places is very frayed. There is a clear glass hurricane surrounding the light bulb. Outside the hurricane, the lampshade is made of hobnail milk glass. This would be an exceptional piece and is well worth any repair that needs to be made. Vintage Ribbed Deco Satin Milk Glass Hanging Light Globe Shade Fits 3 3/4"
This is a very pretty shade and I couldn't find another like it on eBay. Condition is very good with no chips or cracks or scratches. The previous owner even added putty around the neck so the collar screws wouldn't rub. I'm leaving the putty on for the next owner to remove but I'd leave it if I kept it. The shade requires a collar that is 3 3/4 inches in diameter or a bit larger. The globe is approximately 7 inches deep and a bit over 8 inches in diameter. This hanging light fixture has been restored. It was completely cleaned and rewired(including the ground wire) Wires are new and meet North American electrical safety standards. This lamp is ready to install. It is an original 1920's genuine milk glass hanging lamp. These lamps were use in early American general stores. Churches, school houses, town halls, and other business establishments. Becasue it is a genuine milk glass shade it looks amazing when lit and has a nice warm glow. The glass is not a thin reproduction, it is original to 1920 and made of heavy thick glass. A large vintage milk glass hanging mid century industrial mod lamp shade. This shade is 14" wide at the widest point. It is 8 1/2" tall, the fitter is 5 7/8" wide, outside edge to outside edge. The fitter has quite a few chips along the edge. There are no other chips and no cracks.
