It looks like the person before me was trying to clean them up, one is in its totally original state, the other has been lightly cleaned, the most obvious evidence of this is in the fourth photo, they really shined up that part, then got some white paint on it, this is the only area of any sort of issue, I think the paint can be removed easily enough- The metal is a silver pewter sort of color. With lightly painted details- The light bulbs would hand on the underside. This needs to be re-wired, I have photographed the original cloth covered wires- The part where you screw in the light bulbs looks really good. Copper parts and it looks like maybe these have been replaced, but not sure they look really clean inside- you will need 2 screws to re-connect the part where it attaches to the ceiling on one of them- each chandelier measures 17" across. 22" hanging- PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS FOR CONDITION. Original Antique ART NOUVEAU LIGHTING FIXTURE- metal & brass from ~1900
Beautiful ANTIQUE ART NOUVEAU ceiling light fixture from an old hotel in Hillsboro. Tx. with the period Acanthus leaf details. We have had this since the hotel was torn down in the mid 1970's. My husband's family owned this property in Hillsboro which was built around 1900. Around 1969 or 70 some of the hotel was turned into dormitory rooms for the local Hill Junior College. Then around 1975 the property was sold and it was torn down for a grocery store. My husband and I grew up in Hillsboro, before moving to Austin for UT in 1974. This is one of the pieces I thought we had lost but I recently found. It's mixed metal. brass, cast iron, maybe more. There are some holes in the electrical canopy for whatever reason. The only part that turns is the circular mounting part. Maybe this went at top of a staircase. Not sure. Porcelain light fixture is mounted in copper. 2 Metal Art Deco Slip Shade Sconces by Midwest Lighting Company 1920's - 1930's
This is a beautiful pair of 2 art deco cast aluminum sconces which I believe were manufactured by Midwest Lighting Co. circa 1920-30. The sconces are slip shade in design but I do not have the shades themselves. The sconces have an abstract floral pattern to their design. Each sconce measures about 10 1/2" tall. And each is about 5 1/2" wide. I believe the sconces are made of aluminum. There was some kind of gold colored plating on these at one point which is largely worn off now. One scone is pretty much just the bare aluminum color at this point. And the other has more of the gold color. I have seen these painted before which looks quite good. The other option is to re-dip them to return them to the gold/bronze color. That or they can be left as is with the patina intact. They both have some paint on the edges where they were ... moretouching the wall. But this can easily be removed. The sconces will need to be rewired and will need brackets to mount them to the wall. The mirror is lightly mercury-ed. There is some discolouration to the underside of one of the candle arms. The piece has been converted for electricity. But this should be tested before use.
