Antique 1920's Gill Glass Flush Mount Ceiling Fixture
Offering an Art Deco 1920's Gill Glass Flush Mount ceiling fixture. Th e pale yellow glass shade is decorated with scroll work and florals and has a metal rossette on the underside with 4 antique bell shaped amber glass prisms. The flush mount fixture is embossed with an attractive two sided floral design. It is a gold gilt color where it meets the ceiling and a silver metal where it attaches to the shade. We have cleaned both the shade and the fixture and put a coat of linseed oil on fixture to keep rust at bay. Original excellent condition and all parts for wiring are there, it will need new wiring, shade has no cracks or breaks. A gorgeous old"Gill Glass& Fixture Co. Philadelphia U S A) brass and crystal 5 arm chandelier, in beautiful condition. The original cloth covered wiring looks good, the bent brass sheet and pipe has a nice aged patina and the crystal all looks to be in fine condition. Rivets were used(instead of screws) in the assemby of the brass hardware, so everything is still solid/ secure and looking good. And occupied most of the block between East Tioga and East Venango Streets. The factory backed up against rail ... morelines. As was common, and there would have almost certainly been a rail spur leading directly to Gill loading docks. The Gill buildings are extant, although they look a lot less attractive than they did as pictured, proudly, in Gill catalogs. The immediate area around the factory was all housing(and still is) and it can be assumed that many of these homeowners worked for Gill– an easy commute. All this seems like an ancient time, a lost age far, far away when America actually made stuff. Quality stuff. Too. And when people didn’t have long commutes to work, and when railroads were powerful and important. Sigh. I’ve collected Gill Glass for years now and have long admired the quality of their fixtures and high style. But normally I come across Gill fixtures from the 1930s and 1940s. And have never before offered this fixture. The fixture is also wondrously original and retains its canopy(with a Gill sticker) The six white glass shades look simple enough but when you hold them in your hand they are immediately recognizable as being beautifully crafted. 1940's Gill Glass Company Luminiere Ceiling light
Rare 1940's Gill Glass and fixture company ceiling luminaire. 19" oplulescent cream glass globe with beautiful brass/bronze details and finial. Good condition/ slight pitting/patina on bronze indicative of age. Glass globe is in perfect condition-no cracks or chips. Light has original wiring. Which is in good condition, I recommend it be looked at by a professional prior to installation. Tags inside light verify origin.
