Pan-style fixtures(so named because the main body is like a large pan) were incredibly popular through the 1910s. 1930s, and early 1930s. Most were modest in terms of design, quality, and pricing. Very occasionally however I come across a set like this. Wow. This set was not modest in design or quality. And in its day would have been at the higher end price-wise. It’s stunning. The fixtures came out of a house in Illinois. And were caked with white paint when I acquired them. Luckily, paint doesn’t stick very well to silver-plating. The 4-arm chandelier is particularly luscious. The arms have gorgeous detailing in high relief. The bottom finial is surrounded by a lovely disk. The chain flourish is also exquisitely detailed. As is the ceiling canopy. You can see how different the fixtures look with shades(not included) or without. The vertical wire on the chandelier is cloth covered like the original. While originally intended for a living-dining room. Today I can envision the set in your newly renovated kitchen, or spa bathroom! The set would be the ideal complement to nickel-plated hardware. It was still wrapped in its original packing paper, and the cloth wiring was never woven up through the long chain. Wow! The metal parts are brass. And ... morethis retains its protective coat of lacquer. The delicate and lovely shades feature grape clusters. The center is a dazzling pineapple-influenced piece of glass. Wow. We think of the 1950s as being terribly modern– like every home had a Sputnik fixture and a boomerang-shaped coffee table. But most homes. Then and now, were traditional in style, and Colonial-Revival fixtures such as this were careful to step a fine line between tradition and modernity. It’s a combination which I find attractive. A chandelier like this would have been used over. Say, a blond Heywood-Wakefield dining set. This fixture is ready to hang. And comes with all the mounting hardware needed! DETAILS: The fixture accepts standard base 60W bulbs. COLOR: Brass. Frosted white shades. SIZE: The fixture hangs down 36-inches and is 18-inches wide. I can remove up to 21-1/2-inches of chain. CONDITION: The fixture. Never used, is near mint. There are several small age spots to the brass(where air has gotten under the lacquer finish) and two of the brass socket cups are cracked(see second-to-last image) This is not readily obvious(it is hard to discern the cracks from reflections in the shiny brass) The

Vintage Colonial Style Five Arm Metal Light Fixture
Vintage Five Arm Colonial Style Light Fixture- Up for auction is a charming light fixture. It is metal and probably from the 1940's. It looks to have been spray painted an off white. But the floral motif around the bottom is original. There is a three way switch on the side of the center post(as shown in the photos) One turn lights the bottom light that comes from the base. The second turn lights the five arms and the last turn lights all of them. The wiring works fine, but strangely, they have it extended to be a plug in. I would guess you can shorten it to be a direct mount by cutting the wire. There's about 8" of chain so it can hang directly from the ceiling. The light fixture measures about 20" long and 20" wide. HUGE Carved American Mahogany Wall Sconces Shelves; Colonial Southern Style
These are just plain impressive. One look at them. And you know that they belong in a"gracious home" with large furniture, big wooden bookcases, and billowing curtains. They are in a wonderful American Colonial style with the large carved scroll and medium-stained wood. Speaking of the wood. My woodworker father identified it as American mahogany(and showed me his restored antique chest made in the same style. with lion-head pulls. The pieces each have joins where pieces of the same wood were pieced together for carving. In one of the pieces with joins on the front, you can see where the pieces have formed a seam. Please look at the photos. I do not know how old they are. They are from an individual artisan; there is no maker's mark. And they are probably at least 50 years old, if not more. The age of the wood is hard to determine ... morebecause they are in very good condition with little wear. Each shelf is 12.25" long x 7" wide. They extend 14" down. They are also quite heavy. Weighing over 5 pounds each. I will pack these well to protect them from the post office, and the box will be oversize and heavy. I will also require a signature because they absolutely should not be left on a doorstep in the cold. Since the pieces are so heavy. They have heavy-duty hangers. Brass keyhole hangers have been securely screwed into the back. You will definitely need to anchor them in the wall properly with the appropriate plaster or drywall screws. Ask the advice of someone in the hardware store if you're not sure. Enjoy these marvelous wood shelves. They are so wonderful- you just don't see rich designs like this in the mass-produced home catalogs. Kate.
