I have for auction this fabulous gilt bronze traditional hall lantern. It is french and was found in a house clearance here in the South of France, so it is vintage, I have not cleaned the lantern except for the glass, I understand that some dealers do not like their metal ware cleaned, but I am sure it will be much brighter still with cleaning if you want it to be. I would think it will date to C1930s, it is wired for use, but this is old wiring and with all second hand electrical items, it is always wise to have this checked out before use, it is designed to take two standard edison screw type light bulbs, the light bulbs displayed in the chandelier are for display only and are not part of this auction. This classic style of hall lantern is highly sought after at present, you often see them displayed in beautiful homes in the high end interior ... moredesigners magazines, adding great style and class to any entrance hall. This lantern is a beautiful early example, it is lovely quality, it would have been very expensive when first purchased. What I love so much ab out this lantern is the wonderf u l glass cylinder shaped liner. The glass has so much charact e r. That you get with early glass, such as the wavey fluid like effect. It emphasizes it's age and adds great charm. The maximum drop from the ornate ceiling rose is approx 19.5" or 50cms, this could be easily lengthened or shortened by adding or removing chain, the diameter is approx 7.25" or 18.5cms. I'm pleased to offer this old fixture base with tassel. It is six-sided with dart and egg border. Cast from a bronze with high copper content in several pieces held together with a central threaded shaft. This was probably the bottom of a lantern fixture. As there are two soldered spots where a pair of hinges were attached and a threaded hole opposite the hinge marks, no doubt for a keep screw. Very attractive piece that offer good potential for re-purposing. Or maybe you have an old lantern fixture that needs a base. Vintage Antique Rare Cast Bowl Urn Light Chandelier Bronze Hall Lantern
For your consideration is this stunning antique cast bowl light with bronze hanger. American made, circa 1917. The entire light measures 37 inches long, the bowl is 10 inches in diameter(11 1/2" including the hanger arms) and 9 1/2" tall without the tassle finial. This light is in wonderful condition, with beautiful patina on the bronze hanger and canopy. It is very high quality compared to many cast bowl lights, due to the thickness of the bowl. The glass is 3/8" thick and frosted white when not lit, as shown in close up photo#8. It takes one Edison base light bulb in the center of the cast bowl. The cast bowl is decorated with urns and great detail even on the little hangers that are held by the bronze poles. The bottom of the cast bowl has a tassle finial. There are no breaks or chips in the bowl, there area few small marks ... moreas shown in close ups and some surface slivers in the interior, probably from drilling for tassle. There is one tiny ding in the canopy and some light scratches in the finish, see close up. This light has been rewired and is ready to hang. The fixture is French, Louis XVI style in ornate gilt bronze or HEAVY brass. The chandelier is rounded/orb with an opened, cage design. The detailing features a"mirrored image" in that the upper and lower sections have the same patterns but in reversed order. THIS IS AN INTRICATE, EXCEPTIONAL FIXTURE. The chandelier has 6 distinct panels. Each marked with a brass, fluted column. The columns have a top and bottom finial of a large acorn. Above and below each column is a large brass banner/flag/drape with ribbon accents and beaded borders. Above and below each banner is an acanthus leaf. Up for your review and consideration is a gorgeous 4 sided Spanish Bronze small chandelier. It came from a home that the lady had been living there since the house was built in the 40's. This chandelier measures 25 1/2" tall with chain by 10" wide with its matching original ceiling canopy. This chandelier has two light sockets. Accepting chandelier decorative light bulbs 25 watts. The candle light covers have been replaced. I suggest buying frosted decorative light bulbs. It will show off the panels better. The chandelier works and it has been rewired by an electrician see the pictures. The panels have some etching in the middle little flowers and stars. I noticed the etching when cleaning the lantern as the panels were really dirty. Vintage Medium scale Arts& Crafts. Nantucket, or nautical style wall sconce, porch light fixture. Made of brass with authentic weathered patina, a nice dull antique copper/ bronze. Clear Glass panels with polished brass reflector, Hinged front door, and 2 light cluster. Holds 2 candelabra base bulbs. 26" tall x 6.5" wide x 5.75" projection. Front glass pane is 6" x 8" mounting area on back is 6" x 8" also. The Tail piece could be easily removed(attaches with one small nut) and just use the lantern body if desired. Very heavy. Weighs approx 20 lbs with chain. Measures 29” high including finial without chain, 9” diameter at widest point. Chain measures 39” long, each link is 2” x 1 1/8” Condition is good, missing one of the six finial’s on lantern cover– see photo’s. Beautiful piece with great patina. Workmanship is extraordinary.
