The clear glass center column flares out near the ceiling, and has a beaded candlewick-style edge. The light hangs down 10-1/4 inches to the bottom of the shade. All of the glass is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is one very minor flake near the rim of the shade(see the last close-up photo) But this is pretty much invisible and cannot be seen when the fixture is hung. This light fixture is stunning. I do not believe my photos captured the true beauty. This light fixture has been restored to like-new condition. The original finial that holds the shade in place is solid brass. This fixture takes three standard size light bulbs. And has all new porcelain sockets and new wiring. The mounting crossbar, screws and nuts are provided for easy installation. Ready to hang! This is a really nice 12 Inch Library Globe by Reploge. 12 inch diameter glass globe. With internal illumination and 12 chromolithograph gores, Manufactured by the famous Replogle Globes Co. Chicago, circa 1938. A classic pre-WWII"Black Ocean" glass globe with internal illumination from the Chicago workshops of Replogle Globes. The globe shows Siam in lieu of Thailand, a name change that was made in 1939 and shows European political borders in their pre-1939 configuration. However, it does show Burma separated from India which transpired in 1937 so it seems able to date it with confidence as from 1938. Very few of these finely crafted glass globes from this period survive, and this handsome example is quite well preserved. In extremely good condition with a minor paper loss(1/2 inch) and a scuff or two. Original mahogany base does ... morehave a very minor separation but of no real consequence.
