This is an antique Minton Tile. Stoke on Trent that is a cherub type figure rowing a boat that looks like a watermelon to me. Available here is a set of encaustic fireplace tiles made by Trent Company. There are 11 six inch tiles with a floral/vine/three leaf clover pattern. Included in the tiles are 2 corner tiles. One top center tile and one end"L" tiles. shown in center) Beautiful colors of aqua and brown. Color change can be arranged differently if desired. Colors are much more pretty than photos depict. All of the tiles exhibit crazing consistent with age. They have very little to no concrete grout on the back. They are all marked“TRENT” on the back. When placed together correctly. Two antique fireplace tiles 7" x 7", very different, Persian?
In the 1970's. The previous owner removed these two tiles from around an old fireplace in North Carolina. I don't know their age or origin. Each tile measures roughly 7" x 7" and they're about 1/2" thick. The bird tile has an unusual wavy surface(not flat) the other tile has a flat surface.
