Produced by Minton and Hollins in about 1880 is quite rare and this particular tile with the four colours is very striking. This tile was made by Minton Hollins. Stoke on Trent as part of a series of tiles showing Chinese Scenes. There were 4 tiles in the series with design numbers 92 to 95. This tile is No. 95 `Chinaman on horseback`. It is 6 inches square and is in good condition.There is a very tiny nibble about 1 inch up from the bottom left corner and another on the corner. These are very small. The back has the Minton Hollins marks.

This is an unusual 6 inch Minton and Hollins tile which is decorated with a blue and white chinoiserie scene of an oriental hunter shooting ducks. It has been cracked across the middle and expertly repaired. There are also a couple of small chips in the top right hand corner This tile comes from the G K BEAULAH tiles sale at Bonhams on 25th January 1995. Many had stickers. This one sadly does not. Ken Beaulah was author of Church Tiles of the C19th and a founder member of the Tiles and Architectural Ceramic Society. He began collecting whilst still at school in York. His collection of tiles was all meticulously accessioned. Photographed and documented in a two volume personal catalogue. He is an important figure in the study of architectural tiles. UNUSUAL MINTON HOLLINS `INTAGLIO AND MOULDED `CLASSICAL` TILE
This is an unusual tile made by the Minton Hollins factory. Stoke on Trent around 1880. The pattern uses two methods of decoration. The central green rosette is moulded and the swags and flowers on each side are `intaglio` ie impressed. The tile is 6 inches square and in good condition. The Minton Hollins marks are on the back.

Condition Report The tile is in good display condition but the bottom left corner has been reglued as shown as well as the top left being partially missing to a lesser degree. Unusual little antique pottery paperweight from the tile manufacturers Minton Hollins& Co. Royal cipher to the front and an interesting backstamp indicating that this was probably made as a gift to customers from the sole agents for MH&Co's tiles in the Bombay Presidency in India- Warden& Co Fort Bombay. Also on the back says by special appointment to His Majesty- so almost certainly Edwardian in date- would tie in with the Art Nouveau decoration! Seeing the pics it is obvious that this has seen a lot of use(if not abuse! in its life but still an interesting- and probably quite rare- item for collectors of Minton& Hollins tiles. Stunning LARGE PATE SUR PATE tile STAG AND ROE by MINTON HOLLINS 1890's
Very pretty PATE SUR PATE STYLE 8" tile. Depicting STANDING STAG AND LYING ROE all on a heavenly vivid turquoise blue ground. Designed, and manufactured by MINTON HOLLINS. The thickly applied white glaze, which would have been painted on in thin layers brings detailing to the two DEER(their expressions are perfect! as well as the GRASSES and ROCKS. The differing thicknesses of glaze make for a tactile and beautifully executed subject. I cannot sing its praises highly enough. I have only seen this particular design once before in the SHEILA HUGHES COLLECTION sold at auction some years ago now. The reverse is embossed with the company name of MINTON HOLLINS. Condition is good. The scan does not do it justice and I will take a photograph of it over the next couple of days. There are a few surface marks and some very tiny specs of wear to ... morehigh points but barely visible and good for something so delicate and of this age. No chips. Cracks or major scratches. Crazing commensurate with age. Glorious shiney bright surface glaze. Quite simply a lovely tile that would look wonderful in any collection of tiles especially for collectors of ANIMAL DESIGNS and unusual GLAZE TECHNIQUES or simply framed on its own as a DECORATIVE ARTS object. Which although showing the details can frequently deny them their true beauty when the light catches them, so if you would like a photograph as already muted, you need only ask. This is an unusual Victorian tile made by Minton Hollins. Stoke on Trent. The central circle has a maritime scene of a dismasted sailing ship in a heavy sea. 2" Antique MINTON HOLLINS& CO Fireplace Relief Tile 1860-1890 Victorian Moulded This is a lovely little tile from Minton. Hollins& Co. Circa 1860s-1890s. It is a brown/taupe relief tile from a fireplace. It features a pretty pinecone-like design. This tile bears an impressed circular insignia on reverse: MINTON, HOLLINS& Co. Inside of the circle is the number 2I2 with EB beneath. There is a P outside the circle on the right bottom corner and a X sign in the lower left corner. In 1845. Herbert Minton took Michael Daintry Hollins into partnership. And the tile-making side of the business became known as Minton Hollins& Co. Herbert Minton's successful experiments in making encaustic tiles during the 1840s( Encaustic tiles are ceramic tiles with a decoration made of different colours of clay inlaid into the surface. This is a lovely tile. Hand painted by a competent artist, I would think dating from about 1900. There is a signature in the bottom right hand corner which looks like HR or MR. The subject is a river bank with a kingfisher diving and a small bird eyeing up a butterfly, the flowers are very well executed. The surface condition is very good, there are some minor nibbles to the edges. Any defects should be visible in the pictures. If you need any more pictures or information please email me.
