They stand alone beautifully but are really meant to be read across succeeding tiles, most frequently as fireplace surrounds. One is early, pre-1872 on a Wedgwood blank; the other bears a Merton Abbey mark, 1882-1888. Condition is excellent for their age with the expected craquelure and usual glaze variations. Edges are perfectly intact. There is a chip on the reverse of the Merton Abbey example that does not affect the surface or structural integrity of the tile. Take the two away for the price frequently asked for a single example.

Cosmetically, see that the top issues include: the wood is split in the middle, the tile has been replaced and the tile is cracked in the middle, there are two holes in the top close to two adjoining corners of the tile, and the finish has faded on the top. Color has been added to this stand sometime in the past, and therefore has covered up many of the dings and scratches to the wood. The lines of the legs of this tabouret are really outstanding. As they mirror the apron of the cross stretchers, which add a nice aesthetic touch. This tabouret is very functional as is. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. An original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 6" The bold design of olive-green feathers and buttery yellow buds on a rich nut-brown background has quite an Arts& Crafts feel. There are incised details- the whiplash stems and the minutely-detailed buds at the centre. Pretty much mint condition with no faults. All I can spot are a couple of slight surface scratches near the top left corner of the tile. There is faint crackle-crazing due to age. The rear is unmarked. This tile is from my own collection. Antique Art Nouveau Arts & Crafts 2 tile panel #1067-1068 Peacock feather MINT!
A panel of two original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tiles. Each measuring 6" x 6" Probably part of a wall scheme of repeating motifs, of which this is one. The vibrant peacock-blue and burnt-orange stylized feather reminds me of an Egyptian papyrus fan. The central leaves are a light apple-green colour, whilst the stems and outline are a light mint green. The ivory background- which looks slightly more yellowy here and there due to the pooling of glaze and the natural variation from tile to tile- is ridged and has raised scrolling tendril-like motifs. Mint condition with no faults that I can see. Three of the corners have the very slightest of grazing from fitting into furniture at the time of manufacture. There is faint crackle-crazing due to age. Please see the detailed images(taken with a camera and not my usual ... morehigh-resolution direct scans because the tiles are currently mounted onto thin hardboard with PVA glue. This is how I mount my panels before I frame them, to prevent loose tiles from slipping out and falling. The PVA is a non-permanent fix and will easily remove from the tiles. I can do this before posting if the winning bidder would like me to. In the meantime, it isn't possible to photograph the tile backs! This tile panel is from my own collection. Easily postable. The finished parcel will qualify for the Royal Mail's'up to 2kg' rates and a'small parcel' rather than a'medium parcel' if the tiles are removed from the hardboard and packed as a cube(as per the quotes below, saving around £2.50 in postage) The tiles will be properly bubblewrapped, padded and strongly boxed. Description These are such rare and unique tiles made by the British tile manufacturer MAW and salvaged by hand from a home in Northwest Philadelphia. They have some built up dirt residue on the faces(shows in the pictures) that should easily come off with some hot water and scrubbing. These are salvaged materials and have been used. Are old, and have imperfections. When you order I will pick one tile at random- chipped or otherwise. There is also a broken half that will go as a freebie to whomever buys the most of these! Antique Arts & Crafts Tile .. Art Nouveau Hand Paint England
This is a Beautiful 6 x 6 Tile. That appears to be hand painted in a floral design with wonderful colors. A very earthy design, the glaze is very nice. No damage. This is used but clean. I see some markings on the back but can only make out the word England. This is an antique tile likely from the late 1800's to the very early 1900's. Vintage 6x6 English Arts and Crafts/Art Nouveau decorative tile This is a stunning English tile with an arts and craft/ Art Nouveau style flower. The tile has a dark green background with a deep pink flower and gold swirls. The tile measures 6X6. There is some crazing of the finish when you look closely. The tile does have some surface scratches. The to bottom corners are somewhat rounded. Please take a closer look by checking out the photos. I am not certain of the age of this tile. An antique ceramic art tile by W.B.Simpson West Strand London. It is in the Aesthetic Movement/ Arts and Crafts style and is approximately 15.5cm square.It is in good condition with just a few nicks on one side(see photo) and light crazing. It is marked as shown in the photo. I am sending all smaller parcels domestically second class because of Royal Mail's outrageous price increases I am listing another Simpson tile this week and multiple purchases will be posted at the best possible price. antique Arts and Crafts / Art Nouveau original tube-lined 6"x 6" tile from 1906
One of the iconic tiles of the early Art Nouveau period. It's a Charles Rennie Macintosh style design bearing a registration number 425247(for 1906) A full 6 inches x 6 inches(15.4cm x 15.4cm) and a substantial 3/8 inches(9mm) thick. Remains of plaster on the back suggest it was used as a wall tile. The glaze on the tube-lining has suffered from wear and there is noticeable craquelure- but this is still a very attractive tile with four shades of green in addition to the red and orange. There is a small amount of chipping to the right-hand bottom edge and a chipped upper left corner.

One of the iconic tiles of the Arts and Crafts period. It's a symmetrical design with fine tube-lined leaf and stem patterning in the white areas forming a background to the more obvious stylised green leaf and golden flower motif. Typical of the 1890s Victorian era. A full 6 inches x 6 inches(155mm x 155mm) and a substantial 3/8 inches(10mm) thick. Some small remains of plaster on the back and its overall clean condition suggest it was used as a wall tile. The glaze is in excellent condition with only light. Almost invisible, craquelure. The only damage is a chipped corner(see photo 3)

John Moyr Smith Minton Art & Crafts Idylls of the King tile, c1875
John Moyr Smith(1839-1912) was a designer who was an early and accomplished exponent of the Arts and Crafts style. Bringing Celtic themes to many of his designs for tiles for Minton. This tile is from a series of twelve illustrating Alfred. Lord Tennyson's poems"Idylls of The King" concerning the legends of Arthur. This particular tile shows Geraint. Moyr Smith's signature can be seen to the left of the lady. The tile is particularly desirable for being in excellent condition(one tiny corner nick) and also in the less common sepia toned colourway. On the reverse is the impressed mark of Minton's China Works. Stoke on Trent. Dimensions 6 inch square. We are listing two other very similar tiles. And other Minton tiles, please see other items.
