Antique English Art Nouveau Majolica Green Moulded Tile red / pink flower
Up for auction is a Majolica Art Nouveau moulded tile maker unknown. The tile measures approx 6 inches(15 cms) square. This tile has a fabulous large image depicting a single stylised flower in a deep pink/ reddish colour with a mustard coloured centre together with swirling stems& stylised leaves. The tile has a lovely glossy majolica glaze predominantly in deep green. See section above for full condition report. Please enlarge photos to see tile in more detail. It has the word'ENGLAND' embossed towards the bottom and a registration number that is indistinct towards the top. Art Nouveau was one first attempts to join art and industry. Simplified naturalistic motifs, geometrical concave convex abstractions and elegant movement were some of its regular characteristics, and although applied distinctly in different areas of Europe it formed a single style. Apart from its beauty, is for this reason these tiles are so attractive. They are part of applied arts history of the early 20th century. These architectural antique pieces can be reinstalled. Victorian era 1880's Art Tile made by the J+ JG Low Art Tile Works of Chelsea.Ma. Marked on the back, This tile measures 6" x 6" x 1/2" thick High relief acanthus with a central flower. DEEP caramel glaze.Virtually black in the deep recesses, with contrasting light caramel on the high relief acanthus leaves. A few scattered nicks tosome high points of the flower petals,but the tile shows very well and these go mostly unnoticed. A scratch on the back and chip/porous area near the back corner do not affect the structural integrity of teh tile.Signed,with the less often seen Low back design,usually reserved for tiles that they produced for 3rd parties. Up for consideration is an old wall tile(I do not know when this was made) Beautiful vibrant colors throughout. Beautiful bell-like flowers on a mug. The mug holding another huge orange and yellow flower. This has an old black velvet-like board applied to the back with a hanger for hanging(the black backing is a little separated at the bottom) It may be signed but I did not want to ruin the backing to find out. Could be a hidden treasure! this measures approx 12 inches tall x 12 inches wide& 1/2" thick with the backing. There is some crazing and the colors are beautiful. in a couple very small spots, tubelines(raised lines) are nicked. Antique Art Nouveau Majolica Moulded English Tile Purple / Blue Flower
Up for auction is a very attractive Edwardian Art Nouveau majolica moulded tile maker unknown. The tile has a pale cream background& is decorated to the centre with a stylised blue/ purple flower with yellow centre and green leaves. The photos have been taken in natural daylight. The background colour of this tile is a shade darker than my camera is able to reproduce. Please also note that the reproduction of colour can be affected by the settings and resolutions of different screens. The surface of the tile has a nice glossy finish. This is a beautiful Art Nouveau majolica glaze tile made by the Minton China Works. Stoke on Trent. It shows stylized flower head surrounded with swirling stems and leaves. The tile is 6 inches square and in good condition. There is the tiniest of nibbles mid way along the left edge. The back of the tile is shown in picture#2.
