Minton seem to have produced two different series of tiles based upon"Aes o p's Fables" The set of twelve by John Moyr Smith are possibly the more decorative. But the example offered here comes from the other. Rather rarer series. Of these, th is black on cream colour-way appears to be the less common. Usual 6 x 6 inches(15 x 15 cms. UNUSUAL MINTON HOLLINS `CHINESE SCENES` SERIES. `CHINAMAN ON HORSEBACK` TILE
This tile was made by Minton Hollins. Stoke on Trent as part of a series of tiles showing Chinese Scenes. There were 4 tiles in the series with design numbers 92 to 95. This tile is No. 95 `Chinaman on horseback`. It is 6 inches square and is in good condition.There is a very tiny nibble about 1 inch up from the bottom left corner and another on the corner. These are very small. The back has the Minton Hollins marks.

Antique Erotic Art Pottery Tile Minton King Arthur Series Guinevere Moyr Smith
This tile is not signed by the Minton Company however it has all the characteristics of a Minton tile. It does have the name of the artist- Moyr Smith. This is one tile in a series called the King Arthur series and the name Guinevere is along the lower section. It is in good condition however the photo will show a small chip on the margin lower right. This is a nice tile in the art nouveau- arts and crafts style. It is 6 by 6 inches by almost a half inch thick. There is a slight residue of grout leading me to think it was perhaps used around a fireplace or a border above the wainscoat.

Wedgwood Aesthetic 'The Months' series Tile Trivet, 'May', by Helen Miles, 1878
I have for sale a Wedgewood aesthetic movement tile. Entitled'May' from the Old English The Months series designed in 1878 by Helen J.A. Miles. Mounted in the original cast iron trivet frame. This series of 12 transfer printed tiles represented children in various activities illustrating the individual months of the year. In this case two girls are picking posies of apple blossom from the tree. Transfer printed in underglazed blue. With the title'May' printed in the bottom right corner, the tile measures 15.2 cm(6 inches) square. The back carries the impressed marks"Josiah Wedgewood& Sons, Etruria" with the'E' of Etruria reversed, a backstamp exclusively reserved for Wedgewood's tile production. It also shows two small marks in underglazed blue which may be potters' or decorators' marks. These ... morewedgwood art tiles were sold as sets for domestic use or individually. Mounted in a variety of ways, including this original trivet mounting. It is constructed of a border of fine, rope-twist cast iron which is twisted into knots at each corner, forming four feet which prevent heat being transferred through the tile to the surface below. The tile is in very good condition considering its age and function. There is a small hairline extending about 1.5 inches from the right edge. Some very minor fritting to the outer edges and a small amount of crazing, particularly to the back and to the white area of the seated girl's petticoat. This tile has been used as a trivet, therefore there is some expected rubbing to the glaze in the centre. However, there are no major chips or crack, the decoration is crisp and the colours true. The frame is sound and in good order. Unpacked weight is 495 grams. I would be very happy to provide any further information required regarding this piece. ROGER CAPRON GARRIGUE SERIES"HERBIER" VINTAGE TILE Offered for sale is a rare and unique Roger Capron Garrigue Series tile. These tiles were made by Capron in France. He developed the technique to make these tiles by pressing plants native to southern France into wet clay. Which left a beautifully detailed charred imprint. Garrigue" refers to a special mediterranean scrubland and"Herbier" is a collection of dry plants. This tile is one of a set of 12 which are all up for sale. Each tile is different and unique. Roger Capron moved to Vallauris, where he founded a ceramics workshop known as'l`Atelier Callis' Contributing to the renaissance of ceramics in Vallauris. In 1952. Roger Capron purchased an abandoned pottery in Vallauris and opened a small ceramics factory. With 15 workers. By 1957 he had established a considerable international reputation. In 1980 his factory employed 120 people and during that same decade he reverted to making one-off pieces which were shown internationally. Following an economic crisis. The factory was closed in 1982. Capron made a series of"Herbier" tables in the 1960/70's using these tiles. These can be seen online at different auction houses and are fetching beaucoup d'argent!

This is a vintage tile from Josiah Wedgwood& Sons. The tile is from the series"The Months" which was designed by Helen Miles. It was first produced c1878 and measures 15cm in diameter. This tile is entitled April and shows a boy and girl sheltering under an umbrella. On the reverse is Josiah Wedgwood& Sons Etruria. Minton large tile designed John Moyr Smith Husbandry series
A rare Minton tile from the'Husbandry' series designed by John Moyr Smith from 1874- 1876- this one depicts reaping. From a set of 12 this tile has transfer printed central design in brown on a white ground with a border in blue and yellow colourway. It measures a fraction over 20cm square and is in good condition with some minor'nicks' to top and bottom edges. There is a very small firing crack to top right-hand corner and the tile has slightly stained crazing commensurate with age- it is coming up to140 years old! The glaze to the right-hand side of the roundel has some pitting which has occurred in manufacture. Various moulded manufacturer's marks to rear as shown. ant4344. This is a 6" square tile. Marked on back, Josiah Wedgwood& Sons, Etruria from the Gastronomic Homilies Series, entitled, Even The Ripest Fruit Does Not Drop Into Ones Mouth" The design is attributed to Thomas Allen, a local artist. It is made of white clay, the transfer printed is dark blue, and there is a glaze over top. Circa 1880. There are 2 minor nicks to the outer edges, which I have photographed, and an overall fine crazing. A scarce find, in Very Good condition. Please do not hesitate to e-mail with any questions. Reading(a recipe? and stirring the brew.Saying on tile says"Fly the Pleasure that bites to morrow" Back of tile has full impressed mark Josiah Wedgewood& sons Etruria. Wedgewood only made tiles for a short period.One corner chip and some edge fleabites. Looks like a hairline on left side, but does not extend below surface glaze( see size image) 1" Dent in tile to right of center. Displays very well! 6" square.
