The sale is for this antique tile. It is a dust- pressed tile measuring a little more than 4 1/4 inches square. It was most likely designed by the noted ceramicist Herman Mueller and was made by the American Encaustic Tiling Co. to commemorate the dedication of its new factory in Zanesville. Ohio on April 19. 1892. It is in very good condition while noting that the lower left and upper right hand corners are very slighty"rubbed" This tile is featured in the book called“American Art Tile” by Norman Karlson(what I consider a bible of tile collecting)

Antique 6"x6" A E American Encaustic Co Limited green floral
The American Encaustic Tiling Co of Zanesville. OH was founded in 1875 and was once viewed as the largest tile factory in the world. Unfortunately, if fell victim of the Great Depression and failed in 1935. But its heritage lives on in this wonderful tile. The tile has issues as can be seen with areas where the glaze got scratched off over time. It clearly was part of a larger picture, perhaps with another tile as the base for the flowers. The box lists them at 6 inches by.5 inch wide. they are slightly over.25 thick. And fit nicely with standard new square or subway tiles. Large Lot of Over 60 Antique Fireplace Tiles - American Encaustic, Zanesville OH
Here is a nice group of antique Arts and Crafts style fireplace tiles. They are made of creamy white porcelain with random streaks of forest green. Plus mottled shades of light tan and a hint of blue- very organic, it gives the feel of pine trees in the forest! They were made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company of Zanesville, Ohio, which was in business from 1875 to the 1920s. There are more than 60 whole tiles here, most have at least one or two tiny edge chips and some have more. But they're so gorgeous, I can't imagine it will matter once they've been repurposed and the grout is set. Here's what you get: 37 tiles that measure approximately 6-1/16" in length; 21 tiles that are just over 3" in length; and six groupings of both, ranging from 4 to 7 tiles of both sizes, held together by their original grout. ... moreAll of the tiles are just a hair over 1-1/2" in width, and are 1/2" thick. It is embossed and is a pale buff color, showing a Grecian style woman holding a tambourine high over her head. I think it would be considered"Faience" there is no shiny glaze. Bas relief facades, one tile shows a bearded man's head against an arched doorway and the other tile shows a foot on the top step of a stairway partially obscured by foliage. The mottle glaze has a bit of brown and a bit of pale celadon green against a white background- there is a bit of a rainbow luster to the surface. Both tiles have cement or grout on the edges and the glaze is crazed on both. The"foot on stairs" tile has glaze lose and chipping on the edge and a chunk out of the back. The"man's face" tile has chipping along the edge and a glaze chip on his forehead. Amazing antique American Encaustic relief 6 x 18 relief tile- hunting dogs- RARE
Absolutely stunning RARE tile- 6 x 18 American encaustic tiling co. Zanesville, OH(1875-1935) beautiful olive color. there is one very small area in the right corner where the glaze is off(see pic) this is barely noticeable and does not detract from the overall beauty of this very special piece. for the age of this tile, it is amazing the great condition. perfect for the tile collector or dog lover. would be great either installed, framed and hung, or just on display on an easel. i am hesitant to part with this piece but have college tuition to consider. I'm pleased to offer this lot of arts& crafts tiles salvaged from a fireplace mantel. They measure 6x6" All are the same shade of dark green. The set is obviously incomplete. But there might be enough here for a small backsplash. There are 3 decorations: 1 tile has a Grecian head 11 tiles have daisies and vines in 2 patterns(only one example of the variant) 2 tiles are border pieces. With fronds and stylized Greek crosses Based on the skill with which they are made. Their quality, and the pattern on the back, I attribute them to American Encaustic Tile Co. Zanesville, OH. Brown, gold, and cream mottled antique Victorian era fireplace tiles. There are 38 whole tiles measuring 6" by 1.5" and 1/2" tall. There are also 16"half" tiles measuring approx. 3" by 1.5" by 1/2" tall. One of the full tiles is cracked, but still fits together nicely. Please note that there are also a couple of tiles with small chips on corner edges. Overall crazing consistent with their 100+ year age as shown in the multiple photo views. Antique Tile - Peacock - American Encaustic Tile Co. - Faience - Orig. Bought RI
This antique tile was made by American Encaustic Tile Co. AETCO) It shows(I think) a wonderfully-colored peacock with spread tail feathers. The tile measures 6 1/4" square. n the background. There is crackling- but I do not know if it happened naturally or was put there on purpose. I think the latter. The peacock is beautifully decorated with many colors and the edging is blue and dark green. On the back, we can see the AETCO Faience mark. Also, there is X T/PA- probably indicating where it was made. The very thin plate is where the tile was first purchased- Cull& Williams, Washington St. Providence, RI. The plate is loose- about 1/2 of it is lifted- easy to re-glue. A really fine tile!

I would guess, to the late 1800s or early 1900s. I don't have documentation, but it was removed from the floor of the U.S. capitol building during a renovation in the 1920s-40s period. My first wife's grandfather was a capitol maintenance engineer and had several of these tiles. The replacement tiles in the capitol look exactly like this. The tile is in very good condition with some surface scratches and chips on the back. The shipping weight is 1 pound 8 ounces. Auctions can be combined to save on shipping. Store This is exceptional pair of California style 1920s 30s vintage antique tile top wrought iron base tables. They are small but quite heavy. Condition is excellent other than that wrought iron bases could use some new paint there's no corrosion but the paint is gone and there is light even surface rust. Local pick ups welcomed!
