Here is a white tile with brown art work from the Victorian Era(the close up photo is closest to the actual color) It has a large picture of an Iris and its buds and leaves. It is a 6" by 6" tile. Marked England on the back. There are also numbers on the back: 5050(in red) 0, and 91. There is a piece of paper taped on the back that gives this information: H. Richards 1902- 09. The dates 1902- 09 is also written in pencil on the back. The on damage that I can see is a chip on a petal of one of the side flowers. It is the one on the right as you look at the picture. Again, please look at the close up photo to see it. It blends in on the larger pictures, but it is there. Please look carefully at the photos for the best idea of condition and design. This would look so pretty framed or as a place to set hot pans. Truly elegant! This ... morewill not be sent in an envelope. This tile weighs almost 13 ounces(unpacked) I have been asked about the high shipping fee for expedited shipping and I know as a buyer. Central flower with botanicals in a mint green and ochre glaze. Columbia tiles do not come up for sale very often and the"encaustic" part of their name may mean that that is what they primarily produced-unglazed encaustic tiles.This tile has a"hole" at the bottom right. It was a very dark spot that I ran underwater and it slowly dissolved and left this mark. No doubt a piece of organic material that made it's way onto the surface of the tileduring production and burned into the tile. ANTIQUE. VICTORIAN, RECLAIMED, MINTON, CERAMIC TILE Attractive Minton tile with a central bloom surrounded by a floral and scrolled design. That repeats in each quadrant, in shades of red on a cream background Back of tile. Which has five horizontal ribs, is clearly marked MINTONS over CHINA WORKS over STOKE ON TRENT over MADE IN ENGLAND. The trade mark globe is partially obscured with bonding/fixing. But it has the word MINTON in the central band and STOKE upon TRENT in an arc over the globe and WALBROOK LONDON in an arc under the globe. There is also a printed number 2663 this is preceded by a mark that is not readable. Marks probably date the tile to the early 1900’s. Tile is about 6 1/16 inches(154mm) by 6 1/16 inches(154mm) by 3/8 inch(10mm) thick Tile weighs about 15.5 oz(439 grams) The tile is not cracked. The front is evenly crazed ... moreand the top edges are in good condition. There are two narrow bands across the tile where the pattern has been locally& partially erased, but this happened during manufacture as it is all under-glaze– the crazing in the glazing can clearly be seen over the erased areas. There are also three very, very small black marks, but again these occurred during manufacture as they are under the glaze and are so small they hardly show in the photos. Back of tile is relatively clean. There are two edge chips, but one of these happened during manufacture, as it is under-glaze. Neither extends through to the front edge– see photos. Elegant Victorian glazed fireplace tile. Ca. 1880s, with raised floral and scroll patterns in mauve/dusty pink. Symetrical pattern of a center flower with four protruding buds, inbetween which are elaborate ribbon-like scrolls. Glaze is beautifully crackled- visible in close-up photo. Measures 6" square by 1/2" thick. One corner is cracked- see last photo for detail. Bottom has felt"feet" added for use as a trivet. One tile only.

BEAUTIFUL GLAZE on this 6"x 6" x 3/8 LOW ART TILE overall pattern with ever so slightly raised patterning interesting that there is little to no crazing to the glaze- unusual for a tile 100 years old. though the tile is unmistakenly american. Im thinking it has a moroccan feel to it somehow. do you see it? you really have to look to see the two very small breaks in the glaze. Simpson& Sons 456 West Strand LONDON" There is also a hand written"Mc D.R. Simpons moved away from this premise in 1868. As there is no stamp on this tile I have attributed this tile based on the hand written script. Of course this could have been added later so please study the photos to satisfy your self if it is important that this tile is by Simpons. Antique Aetco Trent Victorian Ceramic Art Tile Ultra Relief ! Majolica Rosette
Antique Victorian era ceramic fireplace tile more than likely made by the American encaustic tile company of Zanesville Ohio. Unmarked but American encaustic was known for dramatically hi relief tiles and this tile is about 1 1/2 inches thick at the center. Cream and caramel glaze the tile measures 6" x 6" x 0.5" thick at the edge and 1 1/2 inches thick at the center. I've never seen an American our tile this thick. Antique J +JG Low Majolica Victorian Portrait Art Tile 6" Ceramic Pottery 1880's
Late 19th century art tile made by the J and JG low art tile company of Chelsea Massachusetts. Low went out of business in 1908. Unmarked due to the incused back but a well-documented low design pictured in Norman Karlson's book on American art tiles. Fantastic portrait tile in a deep and rich teal blue glaze. The recessed area on the back was to compensate for the very high relief on the face and to keep the clay thickness consistent throughout the tile. This would help to keep the tile from warping during the firing or cooling process. I have seen this tile made with the flatpack and I have seen some that are warped. A small mark in front of the ear that is under/within the glaze and doesn't disrupt the surface. Another high end example of this tile. Beautiful olive glaze. This tile spent it's entire life in a frame and was ... morenever installed into a wall or fireplace. Beautiful classical figural reminiscent of American coins from the same 1880's period. I always think of the Morgan dollar when I see this tile. The color and condition combine for a lot of wow factor! I also have a similarly nice same tile in a blue glaze. Listed in another auction. Beautiful encaustic medieval style ceramic tile by W Godwin(Lugwardine. Hereford) Blue. Black, white and cream/beige medieval pattern Measures 15cm x 7.5cm x 2cm thick Back of tile stamped with makers name(see photo) The Godwin tile company of Lugwardine was among the more notable English makers of encaustic floor tiles and many of their tiles were used in churches and public buildings in the mid to late 1800s. William and his younger brother Henry began manufacturing encaustic tiles at Lugwardine. Hereford in 1852.

I am offering this pair of beautiful multi-colored 6" X 6" X 1/2" thick Hamilton Tile Works majolica glazed tiles that was produced in the late 1890's/early 1900's. Photo 1 shows the vibrant colors and highly decorated designs on the front. Photos 2& 3 show the back side of these tiles- 1 has the factory works information and the other does not. Photo 4 shows the only defect. It is a minor sugar bite but that is the only defect. There are no other cracks. Chips or repairs. If any questions or need additional information.
