This unusual tile was made by the Trent tile factory. It is moulded in high relief with a central boss surrounded by acanthus leaves. The tile is coloured with rich majolica glaze in shades of brown. The tile is 6 inches square and in good condition. The back has 6 ribs. T in a star and TRENT.

They look more pink than brown in one light and then more brown than pink in another light. There are 86 larger tiles measuring 3" by 1.5" and just under 1/2" tall. There are also 34"half" tiles measuring approx. 1.5" by 1.5" by 1/2" tall(some are slightly larger) While I attempted to give them a thorough cleaning. Some still have some residue on them. Antique Aetco Trent Victorian Ceramic Art Tile Ultra Relief ! Majolica Rosette
Antique Victorian era ceramic fireplace tile more than likely made by the American encaustic tile company of Zanesville Ohio. Unmarked but American encaustic was known for dramatically hi relief tiles and this tile is about 1 1/2 inches thick at the center. Cream and caramel glaze the tile measures 6" x 6" x 0.5" thick at the edge and 1 1/2 inches thick at the center. I've never seen an American our tile this thick. Two fabulous antique tiles feature a man& woman signed Trent. The color is a beautiful gold yellowish brown with white accents. These tiles measure 6" square. Both have been used and are in descent shape. The woman tile has a little more wear than the man tile. The man tile has a chip in the bottom corner as well as on his hair(last photo) There is crazing on both of them. Some of the white spots on the photo's are due to light reflection. Antique art tiles made by the Trent tile company of Trenton New Jersey. Trent was one of the largest tile factories in the United States between the 1880s and the 1910s. Marked on the backs. Three of the triangles are marked in script. Central 3" x 3" tile surrounded by four triangles of 2-1/8" x 3" Together the five tiles form a 4.25" x 4.25" by half-inch thick assemblage. Some light chips as seen in the photos but overall a very nice group with Excellent eye appeal. You will receive all five tiles.
