It has beveled glass mirrors with some silvering occurring, but even this, I can see a way to appreciate the way it has come about along the edges. This is a very nice antique Victorian maple mirror for a dresser or chest of drawers. Typically used on a five drawer tall chest or highboy. It retains it's original beveled glass and measures aprox. 34 1/2" wide x 23" high with just the mirror being 17 1/2" wide x 19 1/4" high. The glass is nice and clean and it retains it's original back. There is a small piece of applied carving missing at the lower left corner, otherwise it is fine. In order of our photographs. The first wood carving measures 6” tall by 6 ½” wide and 4 ¼” deep and is from the mid to late 19 th century. This carved wood Puti or Angel has an old. Worn painted surface, which is guaranteed to be original. As you can see in our photographs, his left wing-tip was broken off, many, many years ago, but there are no other problems or any restorations. Measuring 10 ¼” long by 5 ½” tall and 4” deep, the second Wood Cherub Carving is from the late 19 th century or very early 20 th century. This hand carved wood cherub has acquired an old dark patina. And is in perfect untouched condition. The third and final piece in this auction is a circa 1900 Plaster of two Angels with open mouths, like they are singing. The gold gilt& painted surface on this 5 ½” long by 4 ½” tall and 2 ½” deep Plaster is original however, there is some paint flecks and a few small chips to the plaster. Here is a absolutely gorgeous early 20th century oversize beautifully carved mahogany sideboard is paneled with detailed carvings on the lower doors and mantle back panels. Fluted edges, two beveled mirror back candle stands, display shelves, and large work or serving surface, drawers and cabinet space below, recently imported from the United Kingdom through Edinburgh, Scotland. Please take the time to look at my close up photo's of these beautiful carvings including urns, a figure- perhaps Neptune and the words GLORIA NON PRADEA in the top center, and tall stone towers on the central lower doors. This sideboard is not in perfect condition but it is overall seasoned and in very nice commensurate with it's age with primarily the minor nicks, dents and scratches to the finish and a few minor dark stains to the top surface as one expects ... morewith respectful use over this length of time but the mahogany is lovely and the more one looks at the hand carvings, you realized how detailed the work is and how exceptional this very large piece is overall. I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design, quality, condition construction and overall beauty of this marvelous circa 1900-1920's sideboard. This fabulous sideboard stands 63 inches tall and measures 80 1/2 inches long by 25 inches front to back. With a surface height of 38 inches and an upper shelf the length of the piece 57 1/2 inches above the floor. The sideboard when shipped will travel in two pieces- the top section 25 inches tall by 9 1/2 inches front to back by 80 inches long, and the base, 38 inches tall by 25 inches front to back and 80 1/2 inches long. The beveled mirrors on either end of the top section measure 11 1/4 inches wide by 10 1/2 inches tall. There are three drawers, 2 smaller ones 18 3/4 inches wide by 18 1/4 front to back and 3 1/2 inches deep with the larger center drawer measuring30 1/4 inches wide and also 18 1/4 inches front to back and 3 1/2 inches deep. Two of the pieces are authentic mid-1900s Asmat wood carvings. The other an antique wood post sculpture from Indonesia. I inherited all of these pieces from my father earlier this year. He was fortunate enough to travel the globe building golf courses as a profession. During one of his trips to the Pacific Islands years ago he returned with these. Piece 1: Asmat Male Carved Wooden Sculpture c. Mid 1900s This is one of the most beautiful and unique Asmat carvings I have ever seen. This sculpture depicts a male figure on his knees with his hands in his mouth. Looking frightened. The man is quite detailed with his hair, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, arms, ... morefingers, feet, toes, chest, and genetalia all being carved. There are also numerous Asmat tribal markings located throughout the figure. This is a very fine, high value piece. Dimensions are approximately 24x4x3. Years ago this piece was dropped and the left leg of the figure broke off. It was repaired at one time by a family member with a general all-purpose glue. I have provided photos to the best of my ability. Piece 2: Asmat Carved Wood Serving Tray with Head Carved Handle c. Mid 1900s This piece is an authentic carved Asmat serving tray. The piece is a very fine example of a typical Asmat carving. The patterns depicted on the back and sides of the tray are very traditional of Asmat pieces. With the exception being the fine quality of these carvings. The carved head handle has detailed carvings of the eyes, ears, nose and mouth. High value/museum quality piece. Dimensions are approximately 21x6x2. This piece has a slight slice of the nose missing and a chunk of one of the sides taken out near the place of one of the markings. Made in Holland Circa 1960 Oak Black metal hardware Carved panels Some veneer issues on interior bottom Very good overall condition, This trunk is a great piece for extra storage in any room and would make a particularly nice looking piece at the foot of a bed. The oak wood and blackened metal look great together. One of the more prominent features on this trunk are the two carved panels on the front. They are well done carvings that depict scenes of eating and dancing. A very merry theme! The oak itself has a medium color to it which is contrasted with ... morethe black metal studs. Handle, and hinges found throughout. There is no lock on this trunk, it never had one and could be considered a blanket box. The exterior of this trunk is in very good condition and was obviously well taken care of. There is only sporadic light wear. This trunk was made in Holland around 1960 so you would expect this type of light wear from a piece of this age. Inside the trunk. The oak veneer at the bottom has come away a little in a few spots, leaving the white color lines you see in the photo of the interior. Nothing structural there, just a cosmetic issue that will be covered up by whatever you store inside the trunk. This Dutch oak trunk with carvings has a lovely look about it. Here is a close up of the two carved panels depicting Dutch celebrations on the trunk. The hinged lid opens easily. Inside there are some cosmetic issues as outlined in the description. Huge Antique Cuckoo clock Quail case 2 door nice carvings double gong fox grapes
Up for auction is by far the largest cuckoo case house i have ever found. This 2 door quail cuckoo house measures just over 16 inches wide at the base carving. 15 3/8th inches across the roof. 20 1/4 inches from the peak of the roof too the bottom of the grape cluster. Roof and face of fox sit about 7 1/2 inches from the wall. I bought this case a couple of years ago hoping too build up an antique quail clock. Being the movements are so hard too find, its been sitting on my shelf. At this point i am handing it off, to someone else. The carving on the clock is in fabulous condition, with very few imperfections, other than the arch being split on top(easy fix) Carving is only held on with one nail, other nails are present, but i did not sink them in. The case itself has two nice carved doors, and a great looking dial with what looks like original ... morenumerals, only missing a I from the number 9. Roof could use a couple of nails to secure it a little better, which i will leave to winning bidder. Pictures speak for themselves, but for a cuckoo case easy over a hundred years old this is in nice shape. Top back of case has wear, where the clock must have been takin on and off the wall. Back door looks to have been partially split and repaired, and has 2 small gongs, one for cuckoo and one for quail. Small bit on veneer chipped on bottom of case. The top has carved panels on three sides. The shaft is fluted. The base is notched for the step but is freestanding. It measures 49.5 inches tall. The base is 7.5 inches and the shaft is 6 square. Overall it is in decent condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. The cap is pretty beat up. There are lots of small chips and wear. It features intricate carving on the front. Chamfer back paneled, HANDFORGED heart shaped handles, hand wrought rosette nails and square nails, dovetailed joints, wood peg jointed which is all typical for the period. The top has some cracks. It has some newer flat head screws in the top(still older screws) It appears to have been cut down and looks a little uneven when I look at it. Overall this piece is still super solid for the age! Nice Antique Black Forest Cuckoo Clock Great carvings with Eidelweiss Motif
Here is a project cuckoo clock for sale. We are going to clear out some of our projects for other collectors to enjoy. This does not need major work. Just a little tinkering and it will be a great clock. We have too many clocks and our time and focus are on the rare and unusual pieces. this clock was acquired when we purchased a large collection of Black Forest clocks a few years ago. Its a great cuckoo. A small size at only 14" high. but really nice carvings that are in prefect shape. Nothing is knocked or broken. The motif has a nice looking bird on the pediment and Eidelweiss flowers adorning the case. The pendulum is fantastic. This along is worth a couple hundred. We contemplated keeping it, but it belongs with this clock. Really sets it off nice. Bone flat style hands. Cast bass movement. Wood cuckoo bird with original paint. Clock ... morecomes with a set of weights but it appears they are too light to dive the clock. Clock ticks when pressure is applied to the chain. It will run for several minutes then stop. Nothing is missing, just needs some oil and adjusting. The clock has a nice cuckoo call. The bellows have been replaced at some point in recent years. Pipes look original. Cuckoo train functions well. Like I said a great clock for someone willing to do a little tinkering. thought we would share the project with another collector.
