Made in Germany sometime between 1850 and 1899. The body is hand painted with a Dresden Pattern. There is a large polychrome floral spray on one side and a small sprig on the other. The pieces stand 6-1/2" high with a width of 5" the diameter of the base is 3-1/2" The base is marked with the Blue Crossed Swords. Both vases are in very good pre-owned condition, there is some usage wearing on the edges of each base, light handling wear to the gilt rim edging in various spots and a very small chip on the bottom edge just beneath the gilt rim. Also note that the inside bottom of each piece shows quite a bit of dirt from usage and there is a small gray spot on the inside of the flare in one vase(it might be a natural imperfection in the glazing. Mounted on a later base and with later cloth cape. Carved and painted wood. Glass eyes. Cloth cape. The Santos itself looks to date to the late 18th or early 19th century. The base. Upon which it was mounted sometime after the legs broke, is probably early 20th century, as is the old cloth cape. I’m not sure which Saint this is. But possibly Joseph as it looks like other examples of Joseph from Mexico that I have seen. The figure has white glass eyes and blue-painted body, with long brown hair and painted details to the face. It is nicely carved in the Mexican traditional Spanish Colonial style. The Saint appears to be mounted to the painted wood base, with a nail or metal rod, at the bottom of the right leg. It is a beautiful and small Santos from early Mexico. AGE: Santos- Late 18th- early 19th century. Base and cloth- Early 20th century. CONDITION: Good condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: Missing his arms. Loss to the left leg at the thigh. Loss to right leg at the knee. Small losses and wear to the painted surfaces, as shown. Later base and cloth with wear and old patination. It must have been a bulk container just used in the store. All of the paint that is on it is original. The lid opens like a roll top desk. It works fine. There is some small repair that is needed on the lip that you use to open the lid. The lid has some dents in it but could be easily removed. The rest of the tin is in very good condition with no dents. Holes or separations. This tin could be cleaned up and left original or restored back to perfect condition. The tin is 26" high, 19" wide and 22" deep. The inside lid is marked Henry Troemner Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Maker. This would be a unique addition to your home and a great conversation piece.
