The sale is for 1 architectural faience tile by one of France’s leading 19th century tile makers. There has been a book written about Loebnitz tiles and they adorn palaces and significant building in France. These are from a fireplace surround. There are 10 listed. It measures approx. 5-3/4" wide x 11-7/8" long and 2-1/2" deep. They are signed"J Loebnitz. Paris(F) on the side also with a J and an X. They have a highly raised design and are 2 different shades of a dark green. They are in very good condition with slight imperfections expected from 120+ year-old tiles.

ANTIQUE VICTORIAN PROVIDENTIAL TILE FIREPLACE SURROUND portrait tiles
The sale is for this gorgeous antique tile surround that was made by the New Jersey Providential Tile company in the late 1800's. The picture is a shortened version of the surround. There are quite a few more of the mottled tiles. It is in good condition and is comprised of the 2 corner portrait tiles and the rest are 6x1.5 inch and 3 x 1.5 inch tiles. Very few or none of the mottled tiles should need to be cut for the surround. There is some residual mortar and the portrait tiles have a few edge abrasions(please see closeup pictures) The most common surround would be 30" high and across. If you need more tiles for your fireplace surround I can flesh out this design with the mottled tiles. I have many antique tiles listed.

Since they have been used they do have chips in the glass, on the corners and on the backs. Some may have some scratches. I did try to get some close ups of examples of the chips on them. I did take photos of all the tiles. The photos are of the actual tiles you will receive. I can't find any markings on the tiles. They look like the Frank Lloyd Wright design tiles but I do not know if they are or not. I do not know the history of the tiles or how old they are. I purchased them at an estate auction in a box. Here is an old Asian roof tile. This is an end piece with the medalion face on the end. There is an immortal riding on the back of an oversized rooster. The immortal appears to have been repaired at the neck during the production process. As the cracked area is under the glaze. This is probably closer to 185-220 years old now. As it was purchased probably a decade ago. Roofing slates mined in Pennsylvania and transported down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers rafts became the roofing material after the disastrous fire of 1795. Each one was individually hand shaped. This one came from one of the old buildings in the Vieux Carre area and dates back to the late 1700's and early 1800's. Vintage Pair of Delft Blue tiles- Belgium
VTG Belgium Delft Blue Tile Dimensions 4 3/4 X 4 3/4 inches For your consideration we offer a pair of original Belgium Delft blue tiles from the late forties. It was manufactured possibly by the factory of George Gilliot in Hemiksen/ Antwerp. Belgium, but decorated by hand in Holland. The factory was founded in 1897 by George Gilliot in Hemiksem. As floor and wall tile factory, with John Salt, a ceramic specialist trained at Sèvres, as technical director. At the turn of the 20th century, the firm saw rapid expansion with a working force reaching nine hundred personnel in 1913. The last tiles were produced there in 1978 and the company was closed down by Sphinx Maastricht in 1985( the information is taken from the website of the British Museum in London) Nicely glazed surface. The background is gray. Fine. Light colored clay with no mica(sparkling ... moreinclusions) No crazing. The tile is stamped MADE IN BELGIUM and BELGA On the whole. Two Red and White Koi on a Luscious Blue/Green Swirled Background. Four vintage raised Koi tile which make up a 12"x12" mural. Each tile measures almost 6" Each tile was hand cut and glazed. There are no chips or cracks. There are some glaze burns on one of the fishes black markings. See photos. The tiles measure 3/8" thick and 5/8" thick at the fish body. Great for a pond or water feature. The price on the back is what I paid for them 30+ years ago. These are old tiles and except for the glaze burns are in perfect condition. Fresnelite, Reg US Pat OFF" 12 IN LENS" This has a Fresnel front and a pebble back The Century Lighting Co sold theatrical lighting in NYC from 1929-1969 I think this is RARE. As I could not find any reference to this on line The Fresnel(pronounced"Frennel" is a soft-edged spotlight with more control over beam angle than floods. But less control than profiles. The lens is a series of stepped concentric circles on the front and pebbled on the back and is named after its French inventor. Augustin-Jean Fresnel(1788-1827) He developed the lens for French lighthouses so that they could be seen further out to sea and could achieve a longer focal length with a lot less glass than a standard ... moreplano-convex lens. These lovely Aesthetic Movement tiles have been decorated with stylised oriental flowers on leafy stems with a pattern band border. They bear no makers marks and each tile measures 6" square. Generally these tiles are in good antique condition. There is slight discolouration to one tile with two small old chips. A couple of small chips on the edge of another tile, rubbing on the edges and general age related crazing. A lovely set of Aesthetic Movement ceramic tiles. Vintage Tile by Ann Wynn-Reeves 1964 Kenneth Clark Pottery. Near Mint Condition.
This is a silk screen-printed tile. Depicting a steam railway engine, designed by Ann Wynn-Reeves(or Ann Clark as she became following her marriage to Kenneth Clark) and produced in the 1960s. In fact the tile blank(made by H& R Johnson Ltd. has a date code for 1964. The tile is 6 inches square and is almost mint. There is one tiny chip/frit in the front top right hand corner as can be seen in the last photo. Apart from this the tile has no cracks. Chips or crazing and no wear or surface scratches. The rear of the tile is clean. Probably about as good an example as one could hope to find. A really fabulous tile. Please email with any queries and I will get back to you as soon as I can. There is what looks like a pattern number on the back of one tile possibly starting with a G and 4 numerics. One tile has a double impressed L(LL) Condition: These are old used tiles. One has some stained crazing at the top and is crazed over the rest of the tile. There is the odd small nibble to the edge with one of the tiles having nibbles to the top and bottom of the left hand side. There are manufacturing marks, smudges and small misprints. 12 Blue& White Victorian/Aesthetic Sunflower Design Transfer Printed Tiles This set of 12 tiles probably came from a fireplace or washstand and would probably be ideal for that purpose again or anywhere that some decorative tiles would look good. Although they are blue and white they do look a bit on the gray side in certain lights. There are no markings to the underside and I have not been able to find similar pattern so I do not know the maker. Condition: These are old used tiles. 3 of which have been untidily trimmed down one edge(obviously made to fit in the original place of rest) The colour does vary from tile to tile and they are mostly crazed. Some have marks and one of the trimmed tiles has brown marks and staining of the crazing. There are small nibbles on the edge of some of these tiles and other manufacturing flaws and blemishes ... moreincluding areas of missing glaze. Please see photos below and if you need more, please let me know. Size: Complete tiles 15.4cm x 15.4cm. Trimmed tiles are about 15cm wide. Depth 1cm. Combined weight of tiles unpacked is 4kg Packed weight may exceed 5kg so I have quoted postage at the higher rate of £8 although if the eventual packed weight is under 5kg I will refund via paypal the £2 postage difference. Antique Alfred Meakin majolica Art Nouveau tile of a dark purple beet. Hand painted and has a crackle glaze. Back is marked"A. M. Ltd. England. Item is used, but in good condition. There is a very small chip in the glaze on the bottom left corner, top right corner, and the middle right edge. Very slight amount of grout, no cracks. Tile measures 4" wide x 4" high x 3/8" thick.
