Wheeler and Wilson curved needle Antique Sewing Machine - Deluxe ...WOW
Antique Sewing Machine Wheeler& Wilson Deluxe Model made 1872 Manufactured in Bridgeport. Connecticut Wheeler& Wilson is one of the most historically important of the sewing machine manufacturers of the 19th century. Allen B. Wilson invented the rotary hook and four-motion feed still in use today. Wheeler& Wilson machines were also know for their glass presser foot insert that you can see here. After the initial invention of the machine and its improvments. Wilson was not active in the company. It was his partner Nathaniel Wheeler that was the driving force in making Wheeler& Wilson one of the top sewing machine manufacturers of the 19th Century. This is a very unusual deluxe edition of the Wheeler& Wilson curved-needle machine in a half case. The machine itself has silver plated arms and cloth plate. And the case is all ... moredecked out in beautiful burl walnut and maple. The iron work of the legs is ornamented with hand-painted floral and other designs. This machine was meant to be a showpiece, and its beauty still shines through more than 140 years later! I have collected sewing machines for more than 20 and have never seen another one like it. The serial number is 739025. Dating it to 1872. The inside back of the case reads A. Sumner, St.Louis. The extra-fancy case and ornamentation may have been done at the Wheeler& Wilson factory, or perhaps this deluxe version was a special edition put out by this dealer/distributor under licence. There are some cracks in the cover as you can see from the pics. Accessories included as shown. There is slight discoloration and is dark in the hard to reach spots. The clip spring is strong. This holds the bobbins that measure 7/8" diameter x 5/16" thick. Here is a very old sewing machine. Probably dating to the 1860s or 1870s. It was made by the Wheeler and Wilson Company of NYC. Cast iron with original gilt pinstriped design, this machine measures about 11" long and 7" wide, 6.5" tall. Found in a barn or attic, it is caked with dirt, grease and in original condition. Up for auction is a Wheeler& Wilson Sewing Box which I believe is at least 100 years old. The finish looks to be original and is in good condition. The hinges look original as well and work well. There is no felt lining on the inside. The issues are 1) It is missing the metal push b u tton latch. 2) The box has an ever so slight warp. Which I pictured above. The left top corner does not rest on the bottom corner like it does on the right side. Also some years ago the bottom of the box came loose so I glued it back together. I did this quite a whi l e ago. Other than this. This is how I bought it 15 or 20 years ago. I ship the most economical way which includes tracking( 80 cents) Packaging and handling are on me. Wheeler and Wilson No 8 Sewing Machine Dimensions of the case: 47cm 18 1/2 inches x 20cm 8 inches x 32cm 12 1/2 inches. Unusual Victorian sewing machine circa 1890. This machine was first produced in 1876, and manufactured until the early 1890's. It has a straight needle and glass presser foot and it uses a disc bobbin. The disc bobbin is present. The machine is fully functional and has an extremely fluid action. The machine is numbered 478475129. Singer 9W Wheeler & Wilson Rotary Treadle Coverted Electric Sewing Machine Works
Antique Singer 9W Wheeler& Wilson Rotary Treadle sewing macine. Serial number is W69396. Originally manufactured from 1909-1913. Converted to electric circa 1936 based on patent date shown on motor. Can be converted back to treadle easily. If desired. Old weird foot controller included. As shown in photos. Although it's missing the thread controller spring. It does run and sew. Stitching sample shown. All moving parts operate smoothly. Old cord is probably unsafe. Still has original Bakelite wall plug. We did plug it in to check it. But don't recommend it without rewiring. 2 sets of mounting holes drilled in rear of head for light and motor. Light was moved to the front- resulting in 2 more mounting holes in the front of the head. Light bulb is missing. So unsure if the light works or not. Surface wear to paint and decals. But ... moreis certainly structurally and mechanically sound. Little to no rust. Uses Singer 221 Featherweight bobbins. Will send along worn needle and good bobbin that were installed in machine when we got it. Modern 15x1 needles will NOT work in this machine. Uses 4- 9 N 1(127 x 1) needles which are no longer made. There are modern needles that can be substituted- Organ MY1014 rotated 90 degrees to the left. This machine is being sold as is. Where found, for parts or repair and rewiring. This old antique advertising sales broadside is for the Wheeler& Wilson Sewing Machine Manufacturing Company to residents of Oshkosh. Wisconsin. Lower left corner of print reads: Albert Pride's House, Oshkosh, Feb. 27, 1865. Quick online research reveals that Wilson constructed the first practical sewing machine and obtained a patent in November of 1850. Nathaniel Wheeler joined the company in 1853. Of particular note in this broadside is it's mention of his patented, famous"rotating hook" This is a great example of early advertisement printing in"current day" Northwestern America. Postally used original printed advertising postcard. Published for Wheeler& Wilson who made sewing machines at 11-21 Paul Street. Finsbury, London. Sent in 1904. Some wear and creasing at corner tips. A surface crease in the middle of the left edge. And a few other lighter ones in the top half. A few surface marks. The back also has some surface markings. Some faults- but still a very nice early advertsing postcard. See both scans below for front and back of card. Superb early 1860s original/vintage albumen cdv of Allen B.Wilson.The inventor in 1849 of the Wheeler& Wilson sewing machine taken by G.N.Granniss,Waterbury,Connecticut.Possibly signed by Wilson at bottom front below portrait. Allen B. Wilson's achievement was in the area of inventing and perfecting sewing machines. Two of those were considered the most ingenious and beautiful pieces of mechanism: the rotating hook and the four-motion feed. He claims to have conceived the idea of a sewing machine in 1847. His first machine was built during the spring of 1849. While he was in the employ of a Mr. Barnes, of Pittsfield, Mass. a cabinet maker. In the same year he built a second and better machine, and"up to this time, says, I had never seen or heard of a sewing machine other than my own. He sold a one-half interest in the invention ... moreto Joseph N. Chapin, of North Adams, and with the proceeds took out his first patent, which bore the date November 12, 1850. It formed a lock stitch by means of a curved needle on a vibrating arm above the cloth plate, and a reciprocating two-pointed shuttle traveling in a curved race below the plate. The feed motion was obtained by the two metal bars which are seen intersecting above the shuttle race. The lower bar, called the feed bar, had teeth on its upper face, and by means of a transverse sliding motion it moved the cloth, which was placed between the two bars, the desired distance, as each stitch was made. In 1851 Wilson patented his famous rotating hook. Which performed the functions of a shuttle by seizing the upper thread and throwing its loop over a circular bobbin containing the under thread. This simplified the construction of the machine by getting rid of the reciprocation motion of the ordinary shuttle, and contributed to make a light tool silent running machine, eminently adapted to domestic use. This Wheeler and Wilson serial no. 406287 is really beautiful. It turns so easily and the me mechanism is working properly. So properly it pinched the hell out if my finger when I turned the crank and forgot to move my finger. Live and learn. The wooden case is in good shape, with a scratch on the top, where another item was sitting in the top, but it just gives it character. Lovely late 1800s Wheeler and Wilson Sewing Machines deep honey colored poplar attachments box. Beautiful Victorian themed embossing on the top. Easy metal push button opens the box to reveal top and bottom lined with the original burgundy red velvet. Box measures 8 3/4” long by 3 1/4” deep and 2 3/4” tall. Hinges in good working order. Box is assembled using 1/4" thick poplar and fingerjoints are used for strength. Box was cleaned and refinished with satin varnish and paste-waxed with 0000 steel wool for a soft lustre. this auction is for a late 1800's Wheel and Wilson treadle sewing machine. I dont know anything about this machine. So please look at pictures close. I do know it needs a drive belt. It has original opperation book and the 2 little drawers has some thread, parts and tools in them. the pat. dates are 1854 on the machine and it looks like 1868? on the treadle feet. The hole size inside of the lips is about 14 x 5 3/4. The hinges are about 9" apart- center to center. The top of the unit measures about 16" x 32" with the lid closed. This wheel has a manufacturing flaw along part of one edge. It appears bevelled. I have pictured that edge. It does not affect the performance of the wheel. Since there is plenty of surface for the wheel to ride along. It is the wheel and pin. I have pictured two views of the wheel. The wheel measures 1-1/4" diameter x 3/8" thick. Antique Wheeler and Wilson Sewing Machine Made in Bridgeport. CT This table is 100% original and in great condition for its age. Dimensions are 31" in x 16" x 30" high. The sewing machine comes up and down smoothly from underneath the table and the cast iron foot pedal pumps very nice. Table and base are very sturdy and solid. The carving on wood around the table and drawers are very detailed and ornate. Center drawer is missing a knob and it looks like some oil spilled in the top right drawer so it is stained a little bit and has some paper stuck to wood otherwise everything else is extremely clean. There are 3 patent dates on the table. 1888, 1890, and 1892. Approximate weight is 80 pounds. For your consideration is a set of four vintage oak drawers from an old Wheeler Wilson treadle sewing machine. Each individual drawer measures 14 1/4 inches long. 4 1/2 inches wide, and 3 3/4 inches tall. The racks are made of oak and the individual drawers are wrapped in oak veneer. Please note that the veneer is chipped and loose in places and will need to be re-glued and given some TLC. The oak racks will also need some glue to tighten up the joints. And also the knobs are missing from the drawers. Though they need some TLC. These drawers have potential and may be right for your project. I will securely package them so that they arrive undamaged. Two corners show a bit of wear, but it is under the stain so it looks like that was the way it was made. There might be some slight scratches on the outside of the box, but they are difficult to see. Antique Wheeler & Wilson Ornate Treadle Sewing Machine
This antique sewing machine and cabinet is just beautiful. I don't know anything about sewing machines. But picked it up because the details of it were so gorgeous. Everything seems to work, from my limited knowledge of these kinds of machines. The treadle works, the needle goes up and down and it looks like the original cord that's around the side to the treadle still works. In the drawers, I found many other components. Bobbins, etc. Looks as though they are all original and came with the machine. The oak carvings on the 6 drawers is intricate and amazing. The brass pulls are equally magnificent. Gorgeous detail. From what I can make out, the earliest patent is 5/1/82 and the last patent seems to be 8/92 I don't want to mess too much with cleaning it up, as I am not a collector of sewing machines and don't want to ruin it ... morein any way. The serial number is 2547448 I am starting the bid at $50. I honestly don't know what it's worth. So bid and let's see what happens. I live in the Boston area. And would prefer you pick it up. Antique Wheeler & Wilson Treadle Sewing Machine Cast Iron Foot Pedal
This is a Cast Iron Foot Pedal for an Antique Wheeler& Wilson Treadle Sewing Machine Base. I have pictured the base it comes from. It may fit other styles. But please check the measurements before buying. The paint is worn with a dull. Dirty finish. There are some white dots on both left corners that looks like paint drips. It comes with two mounting hubs. The hubs mount to a bar and the pivots are then installed. The pedal measures 11-3/4" at the pivot points. The pedal measures 10-7/8" x 11" Not including the part that connects to the pitman arm. The pin for the pitman arm measures 3/8" diameter. The hubs bolt onto a 1/2" bar with the pivots turned up. Antique Wood Wooden Wheeler & Wilson Treadle Sewing Machine 15-3/4" Pitman Arm
This is an Antique Wood Wheeler& Wilson Treadle Sewing Machine Pitman Arm. This is the part that connects the treadle pedal to the flywheel. I have pictured the frame it fits. It may fit other frames. But please check the measurements below before buying. The paint is dark and aged. It has a couple nicks. But there are no cracks or splits and it is not warped. The arm measures 15-3/4" long. The holes are 13-3/4" apart at the centers. The top flywheel hole is 1/2" diameter. The bottom pedal hole is 3/8" diameter. To install. You have to remove the screw on each end. If the pins on the pedal and flywheel cannot be removed, then the ends of the pitman arm have to be spread apart to slip over the rod. That's why the body has long slits cut into it. The longer slit is for the flywheel. Mount the arm so the screw holes ... moreface backwards(opposite of where you would sit to sew) Insert the screw. Do not screw it too tight as this will not allow the flywheel to spin freely. Add a little oil to each shaft. Don't forget to follow"The Treasure Cellar" on facebook!
