Etui12A Antique Beaded Velvet Doll's Purse Sewing Etui English* Circa 1820 This miniature antique etui is in the shape of a little purse and the inside contains tiny sewing tools for a lucky little girl's doll. It is covered with wine colored velvet and has been hand embroidered with tiny glass beads. The top is being used as a pin keep and is stuck with early. Hand made coil headed pins. Inside is a great collection of petite tools. They include a bone* spool, a silver thimble, brass scissors, a leather& silk pin cushion, a brass crochet hook, 2 mother of pearl thread winders, mother of pearl waxer, mother of pearl pen knife, a tape measure and a tatting shuttle made of natural shell. The tools are all in excellent condition with no damage. The thimble is sterling silver(tested) and the scissors and penknife open and close. The ... moreetui is in excellent condition with almost no loss of beads or velvet nap. It measures 2 1/4" long by 1 1/4" wide. It was once in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the piece that was photographed in the top plate on p. 37 of her excellent book Sew Precious. C 1860 ANTIQUE FRENCH SEWING ETUI WITH FIVE 18K GOLD TOOLS IN faux IVORY CASE
Add An Amazing 19th Century French Sewing Set To Your Sewing Tools Collection This Is A French Gold Sewing Set With Five Ornately Decorated Sewing Tools With The Same Design. The Tools Include: A Scissors With Steel Blades. A Thimble, A Stiletto, A Bodkin With Steel Point, And A Gold Needle Case. I have spent a lot of time trying to identify the tiny. Mostly indistinct French hall marks and maker's marks on these pieces. While the marks are very difficult to read, I believe the same maker's mark appears on each. I also believe that the pieces are marked with the eagle's head mark which was used in France beginning in 1838 to indicate a 18 karat gold item. The tools are in excellent condition and do not appear to have been used much. There are some light marks to the thimble's unengraved cartouche which I could only see using ... morea loupe. The thimble is in the round and has no holes. The scissors have gold handles and steal blades which are very sharp and cut well all the way through the blades. The needle case is 2 pieces which fit tightly together. None of the tools has been repaired. Recesses were made in the base of the case to exactly accomodate the needlework tools. The base and the bottoms of the tools' spaces are of gray velvet or velveteen. The sides of the spaces are lined with the same cream colored silk with covers the inside of the case's top. The tools fit their spaces exactly. The case- made of a noble natural material which was extremely popular in France during the 19th century- has cracks in both sides. Despite that. This is a magnificent sewing etui with its original sewing tools. That this case and the 5 tools have stayed together for 150+ years is truly amazing! A similar set is pictured on page 121 of Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries by Nerylla Taunton. This item comes from our smoke free home. Georgian Faux Tortoise Shell Sewing Set Etui Needlework Box + Ornate Tools RARE
Antique“Faux” Tortoise Shell Needlework Box Up for bid is an early 19 th century fitted needlework box from England. The outer case is truly a magnificent display of chocolate& blonde colored natural faux tortoise shell. The outer top lid is outlined in silver which is typical of the larger boxes and in particular the ones of English origin. The inner lip trim which is assumed to be that of“faux” ivory is intact on the box base& lid. The sterling silver tools seem to be intact and appear to be original to the box. The thimble. However, is a replacement and the bodkin is assumed to be a replacement. The thimble is marked in the inside top with an S in a shield which is for Simors Bros. of Philadelphia. USA. A deep purple velvet lining surrounds the tools and is also found on the upper box lid. These Georgian to early Victorian ornate ... moresewing implements include a fabulous basket shaped pin cushion, a wonderful little tape measure, sewing scissors& sheath, thimble, waxer, pencil, bodkin and stiletto. What a beautiful piece to add to anyone’s collection! Condition Details: The silver implements appear to be in overall excellent working condition with very little sign of wear. If any at all. The outer tortoise shell at first glance appears in great condition as well. However, upon close inspection there are some minor flaws.on the back of the box are a few hairline or thin cracks near& around the hinges. On the side of the box at the front left corner, there is a very small spot where the coating or clear like"finish" is missing. There are small chips of tortoise shell gone on the right side of the box on each bottom corner. On this same side, on the top corner toward the back there is a small place where the tortoise shell is chipped. Faux" ivory trim outlines the bottom of the box and the left side piece of this trim is missing. This trim also shows some discoloration in places. GERMANY ENAMEL GUILLOCHE ETUI SEWING BOX Beautiful cobalt blue enamel on copper German sewing box up for auction. Marked Germany on bottom rim of thimble. Scissors are marked Muller. Container is hinged at the bottom and contains scissors. Thread holder and pin cushion. Case appears to have a gold wash on the copper portion but worn off of the thimble upper and lower rims. Thread holder also has a gold wash. The thimble cap snaps on to hold the case firmly closed. Sewing case measures 3" long and 1" wide at the bottom. Beautiful condition EXCEPT enamel loss on bottom underneath floral design and small enamel chip on thimble. SEE PHOTOS. In pretty good condition- there is a small split to each end of the leather hinge of the lid. External measurements are 18.5cm x 14cm deep including handle and 5.3cm high. Don't we all just love these old French sewing sets! It's becoming more and more rare to find all 5 of the original pieces to any set. So often one or more have gone missing over time. These are early to mid-1800s, French in origin as noted by the French marks we've captured with our microscope camera, and added for your review on the photos. The tiny diamond-shaped mark is that of the silversmith who made the fine old set, and the other ... moremark is actually a profile of a boar's head, which is the French guarantee mark for.800/1000 pure silver, slightly less than sterling and the standard most often used for small items like these that will need to be a bit stronger for use than softer.950/1000 French silver. These 5 original and matching pieces are all worked with the same decorative treatment, a bit like guilloche work in appearance, but actually it's hand punched tiny 4-dot decoration. The entire set has been coated in 18k gold, vermeil" some of which is a bit rubbed, but not much. Still the appearance of the much more expensive 18k solid gold sets you might have admired in our shop, but of course at a fraction of the cost. The set remains in the original etui which was carved to perfectly fit it. We're just giving the etui away free with the sewing items. The etui has a gold monogram. Vtg Sewing Case Enameled Brass Etui Thimble Thread For your consideration is this Vintage Brass and Enameled Sewing Case. The enameled colors are lovely with a background of heavy cream and swirls of butterscotch. Oranges, reds, and lavender. Inside the case is a brass thimble, and a spool with black and white thread. There is a cap on one end of the spool that comes off. I believe that's where needles can be stored. There is a round eye at the top of the case that holds a tassle. There is a chip in the enamel at the top of the case next to the round eye. There are also tiny nips along the edge where the top inserts into the bottom. The case measures 5.75 in( 146 mm) x 4.25 in( 108 mm) from point to point with a velvet and silk interior but the velvet to the exterior with a complete loss of pile. The tools all have turned Chinese ox bone handles( except the bodkin) and comprise a screw topped needle case. Crochet hook, button hook, fabric awl and bodkin. The button hook has a total length of 3 in( 76 mm) and the needle case is 2.5 in( 63 mm) in length. French Silver Sewing Case Etui - Charles Horner Thimble & German Scissors C1900
Rare French Sewing Case ETUI C1900 inc Charles Horner Thimble and other Silver items. STOCK CODE SW1175/1 DESCRIPTION Delightful French Sewing Case Etui. Reptile skin look woven fabric case. In a cream with a few black dots, somewhat worn to give the impression of snake skin I would say, but is TEXTILE, not skin. The case is neat and tidy and in good condition, the catch is firm and good and the interior appears to be what I presume is grey silk and again is in pretty good condition. The velvet base is moulded around the sewing tools it was meant to hold. The silver needle Case and the holer appear to be the original pieces and the design matches. Quality is excellent and there is the tiniest markings on each item, but I which is i am fairly sure from comparing almost identical version of this the BOARS head mark for silver 800/1000 parts ... moreas for the makers mark I cannot make out more than a STAR* and an R in a elongated diamond. My research appears to bear out these are FRENCH and that would mean the case is French also. the bodkin is not marked, but I believe it is correct as i have seen a similar set with the same components. Scissors are a Later addition being German 800 silver HM Herman Bauer founded 1863 and the Thimble is a No. 8 Chester hallmarked CHARLES HORNER. This makes sense as the estate cleared belonged to a French lady who settled in the UK and I have sold a box of hers previously and it was indeed late Victorian early Edwardian. DIMENSIONS Height- 0.5" Width- 3" x 5" Weight 85gs. Shipping estimates reflect this weight PLUS estimated packing- any overcharges will be refunded. Vintage Enameled Sterling Silver Sewing Kit / Etui * Circa 1925
Sewkit8 Vintage Enameled Sterling Sewing Kit/ Etui German* Circa 1925 This elegant sewing etui is made of solid 935/1000(Sterling+) silver and is covered with white enamel over guilloché engraving. The top is a thimble with a moonstone set into the crown. Inside is a silver bobbin with spools for 3 threads and a needle case in the center. The case is marked"935" on the bottom and on the rim of the thimble. The bobbin has London import sterling hallmarks. A tiny folding pair of steel scissors is inside the needle case. One side of the etui has 2 rough areas in the enamel where the surface layer has chipped- one on the top and one on the bottom. It measures almost 2 1/4" long and t he thimble is about an American size 8. It screws together well. Antique English Leather Sewing etui case with sterling silver clasp hallmarked
Up for auction is a little sewing kit shaped like a suitcase. Made from light brown leather with a sterling clasp and rimmed flap. I can't make out the hallmarks. But they are English. The little suitcase folds out to hold three hanks of thread. There is also a small compartment that probably held a thimble, needles etc. Closed up, the little suitcase measures 4" by 3" Unfolded it is a bit over 16" long. Really unique little piece. Etui112 Antique Miniature Doll's Sewing Etui French* Circa 1860 This miniature antique etui is in the form of a purse and is fitted inside with tiny doll sized sewing tools. It is lined in the original silk. Leather and embossed papers and the little carved tools look to be original. Included are a bone* needle case, stiletto, penknife, thimble, spool and gilded steel scissors. The tools are all in excellent condition with no damage. The penknife has a sharp steel blade and opens and closes. The spool and thimble fit into little built in compartments, just like in some of the full sized sewing sets. The 1" long scissors are amazingly high quality steel with gilded handles and they cut paper. The leather case is also in nice condition and closes well with a steel turn buckle clasp. The leather that it's covered with has separated ... moreat the interior back"hinge" but is intact outside so the top is still attached. It would be easy to reinforce. Antique Vintage Enamel Guilloche Sewing Kit, Sewing Etui, Germany, Thimble Spool
This is a stunning enamel treasure for anyone who collects sewing or needlework kits. Etuis, or implements. Quite lovely, I'm sure it has had an interesting journey. The sewing kit fits comfortably in the palm of your hand or pocket or purse. It is a delightful and cheery sunrise golden orange color. The thimble is in great condition and functions as the top of the etui. The spool inside supports three colors of thread. The top of the spool comes off to reveal the storage compartment for needles and pins. The enamel is all encompassing with the gold washed silver or copper at the ends and seams. The metal is not identified by markings. It polishes nicely with a testing of silver polish. This piece is marked only'Germany' on the bottom base. The only detectable flaw is at the seam- tiny 1/8" area where enamel is imperfect ... moreor worn consistent with antiquity. This may even be a repair. Look closely to see this in the pictures. Otherwise enamel is smooth without flaws and any'white' in the photos is from photography only. There are four hand-painted flowers on the enamel. Two pink cabbage rose designs on the thimble and two blue floral designs on the base. Completely contained this enameled piece is 2 1/8 inches or 5.5 centimeters. A true gem and rare find. Up for bids is this Antique Mid 19thC French Gilt Bronze& Mother Of Pearl Etui Sewing Case. This piece was made in France in the mid 19thC and was probably retailed to travelers of the Grand Tour in Europe. This piece looks like a bronze mounted shell until you push down the bird finial which opens the etui to reveal a holder which has slots to hold 5 sewing tools. This piece still sits on its original white marble base. There is a museum logging code on the bottom of this piece so it was in a museum at some point in time. This piece is in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks, breaks, or repairs. This piece stands 4 3/8" the base has a diameter of 2 1/2" and it is 4 1/2" in length when open. Inside is a built in pincushion. Two tiny balls of thread, a miniature, doll size needle book and a sterling silver thimble sitting on a velvet thimble rest. The thimble has the British silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1903 and the maker's mark for James Fenton. It's about an American child's size 1(11 mm diameter opening) The little needlebook is hand made and amazing for the size. It even has little flannel needle pages. Everything is in excellent condition with no damage. The wooden box is also in nice condition and closes well. The top is decorated with a lacy gold doily framed floral print.
