ANTIQUE 1809 LONDON STERLING SILVER CHATELAIN THREAD SPOOL SEWING BOX THIMBLE
Just acquired out of a Private estate. We are able to offer this original ~ 1809 STERLING SILVER HINGED SEWING THREAD BOX ~. I believe that this would have original been designed to carry several different colors of spool thread inside, and you would thread the color you are using through the hole. Could have held a thimble and other small tools as well. It is hallmarked on the lid, base and side. The maker is THOMAS PHIPPS& EDWARD ROBINSON from London, and it has the London ~O~ date mark, for the year 1809. The maker's mark is T.P and below that E.R all inside of a four leaf clover type shape. It has a hinged top and a hinged clip on the side. The hinged clip on the side may be for a chatelain, although we are not certain. This little sewing box measures 2 inches across by 1 1/4 inches tall" in the closed position" and ... moreis fairly heavy, for its size, weighing 58 grams. It is in very good, all original condition with no damage or repairs. It does show some expected wear to the sterling surface, as we did not attempt to polish it. This very early and unique little sewing box, would make a nice addition to any collection. MKD6 Antique Sterling Silver Pikes Peak Thimble Ketcham& McDougall* Circa 1880s This hard to find antique sterling souvenir thimble has the words"Pikes Peak" embossed around the band in script. It was made by Ketcham& McDougall though it isn't marked with their logo. The size(9) is on the band. It's unusual in that it has daisy knurling rather than plain. Thimbles of similar style are shown on p. 66 of Gay Ann Rogers' book American Silver Thimbles. There are 6 needle holes in the side. The condition is otherwise good. This is a great antique sterling thimble for thimble collectors. It has a row of baby faces all around the base. It is hallmarked sterling with an anchor(maybe early Gorham) It has monogrammed initals on one side. It has a number on the inside which looks like C or G 9. It is slightly bent. It unscrews in the middle and inside is a little sewing kit with spools over a needle case capped by a thimble. The thimble is sterling silver and has the sterling hallmarks for London 1892. It also has the maker's mark for John Troup. It has been made into a chatelaine and fitted with a bone* finger ring with varigated thread. The thimble is in excellent crisp condition with no holes or other damage. The egg has a couple of rim nicks on the top edge. But no other damage. It measures 2" long and screws together securely. Sweet Antique Sterling Silver Thimble ca.1900 - Cherubs & Flowers
Here is a beautiful and rare ca. 1900 antique sterling silver thimble showing little angels or cherubs flying through the air carrying flowers and possibly fig leaves. It is in super nice condition with a wonderful patina. The thimble has no holes or cracks but is a little out of round at the bottom due to normal wear. I recently purchased part of a small collection of thimbles and decided to list some of them.
