ANTIQUE 1809 LONDON STERLING SILVER CHATELAIN THREAD SPOOL SEWING BOX THIMBLE
Just acquired out of a Private estate. We are able to offer this original ~ 1809 STERLING SILVER HINGED SEWING THREAD BOX ~. I believe that this would have original been designed to carry several different colors of spool thread inside, and you would thread the color you are using through the hole. Could have held a thimble and other small tools as well. It is hallmarked on the lid, base and side. The maker is THOMAS PHIPPS& EDWARD ROBINSON from London, and it has the London ~O~ date mark, for the year 1809. The maker's mark is T.P and below that E.R all inside of a four leaf clover type shape. It has a hinged top and a hinged clip on the side. The hinged clip on the side may be for a chatelain, although we are not certain. This little sewing box measures 2 inches across by 1 1/4 inches tall" in the closed position" and ... moreis fairly heavy, for its size, weighing 58 grams. It is in very good, all original condition with no damage or repairs. It does show some expected wear to the sterling surface, as we did not attempt to polish it. This very early and unique little sewing box, would make a nice addition to any collection. Enamel10 Antique Enameled Pre-Revolution Silver Thimble Russian* Circa 1890-1900 This solid silver thimble has delicate twisted wire rimmed compartments filled with colorful enamel and it has been lightly gilded. The Russian silver mark is th e 84 zolotnik mark indicating 875/1000 pure silver and the crossed anchor crest to the right of it is the mark for St Petersburg(c. 1890s) It also has the maker's mark. Probably for Otto Pettelius. It is gilded inside. The condition is mint with not even a needle mark and the enamel is perfect. It is set with a carnelian stone top with dimpled indentations. What's unusual is that it has a Russian silver hallmark. The 84 zolotnik mark indicates 875/1000 pure silver. The thimble style looks German though it's unusually high quality and lightly gilded. The Russian mark is the only one it has. I looked in all of my books to see if it could be an import mark. It is hallmarked sterling with an anchor(maybe early Gorham) It has monogrammed initals on one side. It has a number on the inside which looks like C or G 9. It is slightly bent. It unscrews in the middle and inside is a little sewing kit with spools over a needle case capped by a thimble. The thimble is sterling silver and has the sterling hallmarks for London 1892. It also has the maker's mark for John Troup. It has been made into a chatelaine and fitted with a bone* finger ring with varigated thread. The thimble is in excellent crisp condition with no holes or other damage. The egg has a couple of rim nicks on the top edge. But no other damage. It measures 2" long and screws together securely. Here is a pretty antique figural maiden thimble holder or stand. It measures 4 3/4" tall and 1 7/8" across bottom base. Made of a silver pot metal with all over repousse floral. The inner gown and basket/bucket have a brassy guild. The basket swings or moves in her arms. There are a few small spots of metal wear to base. There is a spot on right side of gown of a shallow pressed indent about thumb-print size. It is shallow. Light tarnish. I'll include the thimble. We ship international and combine.

Here is a beautiful and rare ca. 1900 antique sterling silver thimble showing little angels or cherubs flying through the air carrying flowers and possibly fig leaves. It is in super nice condition with a wonderful patina. The thimble has no holes or cracks but is a little out of round at the bottom due to normal wear.
