Antique Doll's Silver Gilt Sewing Chatelaine w/ 5 Tools * Circa 1890s
Chatlne14 Antique Doll's Silver Gilt Sewing Chatelaine Continental* Circa 1890s This miniature doll sized chatelaine has three chains that are holding 5 items. A tape measure, a needle case, a wax seal, scissors and a thimble. The chatelaine top and chains and all of the tools are gilded silver(test 800-1000 pure) The tape measure has the original marked silk tape. The scissors open and close. The little needle case has some tiny needles and is stamped with the French boar's head hallmark for 800 silver. All of the tools are in excellent condition with no dents or other damage. The chatelaine measures about 4 1/4" long as shown. It is stitched onto a fabric covered board with the top chain curled around for framing. It can be removed by snipping a couple of threads and the length would be about 6" with the top chain stretched ... moreout. The top has a pin so it could be pinned to the doll's(or child's) clothing. It was once in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the piece that was photographed in plate 17 on p. 49 of her book Sew Precious. Children's Needlework Tools& Dolls' Sewing Tools. She says in the book that it is gold. But I've tested every piece and it's all gilded silver. The postage shown includes Registered shipping for non US addresses and insured shipping within the US. It is covered with wine colored velvet and has been hand embroidered with tiny glass beads. The top is being used as a pin keep and is stuck with early. Hand made coil headed pins. Inside is a great collection of petite tools. They include a bone* spool, a silver thimble, brass scissors, a leather& silk pin cushion, a brass crochet hook, 2 mother of pearl thread winders, mother of pearl waxer, mother of pearl pen knife, a tape measure and a tatting shuttle made of natural shell. The tools are all in excellent condition with no damage. The thimble is sterling silver(tested) and the scissors and penknife open and close. C 1860 ANTIQUE FRENCH SEWING ETUI WITH FIVE 18K GOLD TOOLS IN faux IVORY CASE
Add An Amazing 19th Century French Sewing Set To Your Sewing Tools Collection This Is A French Gold Sewing Set With Five Ornately Decorated Sewing Tools With The Same Design. The Tools Include: A Scissors With Steel Blades. A Thimble, A Stiletto, A Bodkin With Steel Point, And A Gold Needle Case. I have spent a lot of time trying to identify the tiny. Mostly indistinct French hall marks and maker's marks on these pieces. While the marks are very difficult to read, I believe the same maker's mark appears on each. I also believe that the pieces are marked with the eagle's head mark which was used in France beginning in 1838 to indicate a 18 karat gold item. The tools are in excellent condition and do not appear to have been used much. There are some light marks to the thimble's unengraved cartouche which I could only see using ... morea loupe. The thimble is in the round and has no holes. The scissors have gold handles and steal blades which are very sharp and cut well all the way through the blades. The needle case is 2 pieces which fit tightly together. None of the tools has been repaired. Recesses were made in the base of the case to exactly accomodate the needlework tools. The base and the bottoms of the tools' spaces are of gray velvet or velveteen. The sides of the spaces are lined with the same cream colored silk with covers the inside of the case's top. The tools fit their spaces exactly. The case- made of a noble natural material which was extremely popular in France during the 19th century- has cracks in both sides. Despite that. This is a magnificent sewing etui with its original sewing tools. That this case and the 5 tools have stayed together for 150+ years is truly amazing! A similar set is pictured on page 121 of Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries by Nerylla Taunton. This item comes from our smoke free home. LadyCom2 Antique Lady's Companion Sewing Set w/ Sterling Silver& Steel Tools English* Circa 1850s This antique etui is a classic example of a Lady's Companion. It is in the form of a book and covered with brown leather. The sides are gold embossed with scrolls. Birds, fountains and decorative borders. The'spine' is embossed'Lady's Companion' The interior is lined with velvet and printed paper(all original) The leather is in excellent overall condition. Much better than usually seen. The top is gold stamped with the maker or retailer's name, I. Bagshaw, 96 Church Street, Liverpool" It's 4 1/8" tall. 3 1/8" wide and 1 7/8" deep. Some in this style are shown on p. 92 of of Bridget McConnel's book The Story of Antique Needlework Tools. The sterling silver tools(tested) include a ... morethimble. A tape measure, a propelling pencil and a sterling topped perfume bottle. Also included are steel scissors, steel tweezers/earspoon, steel seam knife a spool and a packet of needles. The last two items are in the'secret drawer' below the thimble rest. The steel tools are held in a leather needle book which has moth damage to the wool needle page. The silver tape measure has a silk tape marked in inches and works well to wind in back in. The thimble has an applied band and wriggle work engraving. It has 3 tiny needle holes but you have to look for them. The condition is otherwise excellent. It's about an American size 9(16 mm diameter opening) The little scissors(3 5/8" long) have tight blades and sharp points and cut very well. The propelling pencil works well(twists out the lead) and it holds a 0.7 mm lead. It is stamped with the maker's name. Sampson Mordan. The cut glass perfume bottle has the original glass stopper, a sterling top and has no chips or cracks. The other tools are also in great shape with no damage. Workbox20 RARE Antique Leather Sewing"Library" Workbox& Tools English* Circa 1820 This fabulous little Regency workbox is carved of wood and covered with gold leather(or perhaps leather embossed paper) and gold paper trim. The interior is lined in the original silk. Papers and trim. It's going to take a while to describe this box as it has so many facets. The interior is divided into many sections and contains tiny steel scissors. A gilded steel bodkin, 9 gold trimmed paper thread winders, a thread waxer and a sterling silver thimble. In addition there are little leather trimmed"books" inside that contain a pin cushion, an emery, a needle book, a tape measure and a case for court plasters(band aids) There is also the original, working key. The sterling(tested) thimble is about an American size 6(14 mm diameter ... moreopening) and the condition is nice with no holes or repairs. The little steel scissors have tight blades and cut pretty well. They are 2 5/8" long. The winders(one missing) are all original and most are wrapped with silks. The little books are completely original as are all the silk cushions and fittings within. The yellow silk tape is marked in inches but not numbered. The waxer is original with a gold paper star decorating each end. The top lining lifts down and reveals a little compartment for notes or patterns. The leather is in great condition with no tears or loss and the interior has very little loss. Especially considering it's 200 years old. It measures 4 3/8" by 2 3/8" by 1 3/4" high. It was once in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the piece that was photographed in the plate on p. 11 of her excellent book Sew Precious. Children's Needlework Tools& Dolls' Sewing Tools. One in this style is also shown on p. 108 of Nerylla Taunton's book Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries. These are 2 ANTIQUE CARVED OX BONE STILETTOS-AWLS-SEWING TOOLS. The longer. More ornate one measures 3" long. One side of globe at top is slightly flat, perhaps to prevent rolling. Has hole-in-top design. The shorter. Plainer one measures 2-1/4" long. Both are in nice. Lovely antique condition. Upon inspection, the longer one has a couple tiny nicks around upper rims, but nothing objectionable. They have not been cleaned. These were found in some antique sewing notion drawers purchased at auction years ago.

The lid is attached to one side and hinges open. Inside opens up to eight hinged sections& one lidded section in the center. A mesh purse, a pen knife, a whistle, scissors and a thimble bucket with thimble. The chatelaine top and chains are silver plated. The whistle, bucket and penknife were also plated with silver. The scissors and purse are solid silver(test 800-1000 pure) The scissors open and close. All of the tools are in excellent condition with no dents or other damage. The chatelaine measures about 10" long. It is mounted for framing but snipping a few threads would release it. Dollset Antique Doll's Sewing Workbox& Tools English* Circa 1880 This miniature sewing workbox is made of different woods and contains a complete set of miniature tools for a doll or a doll house. The top is mounted with a silk pincushion. Inside the lid are two colored prints and a mirror. Lidded compartments inside hold silk wrapped spools. A tape measure, a strawberry emery, a pincushion, 2 darning mushrooms, two thread winders, a stiletto, a penknife, thimbles, 2 pairs of scissors and lots of little buttons. The steel scissors are a high quality pair that are only 3/4" long and actually cut. The little mother of pearl handled penknife is 1/4" long and actually opens and closes. All of the tools are amazingly small and all are in excellent condition, The box is also in great condition. The pincushion on top has some rubbing ... moreto the silk but the wood is all in excellent condition with no chips or loss. It measures 4" by 1 7/8" by 1 1/2" high and"locks" when the little pearl headed pin is pushed into place at the front. It has several layers with little drawers and boxes below. The little string between the lid to the box broke while I was photographing. The top stays in that position though without it and it would be simple to replace. In pretty good condition- there is a small split to each end of the leather hinge of the lid. External measurements are 18.5cm x 14cm deep including handle and 5.3cm high. Inside of lid is covered in plush red velvet with leather restraining straps to hold tools- currently a pair of scissors. A steel stiletto with cow bone handle and a steel crochet hook with cow bone and white metal handle. Base is lined in leather- plush velvet recessed compartment to hold a thimble. 5 Small Antique Bone Handled Sewing Tools Set--Crochet & Button Hooks, 3 Awls
Offered here for your bidding consideration is this set of five small bone antique handled sewing tools! Included in the group are 3 awls. 1 button hook, and 1 crochet hook. The tools measure 4 3/8" long, with the exception of the button hook, which is about 5 3/8" long. With the button hook being so small, perhaps it is for gloves rather than shoe buttons. They are all made in a similar fashion, with what looks like steel implements and turned bone handles. Each is flattened on one side to prevent the tools from rolling when placed on a flat surface. It is possible that they are celluloid rather than bone, but the small striations in the ivory colored material suggest a natural substance like bone. I imagine these date to the first quarter of the 20th century. Incredible estate find: Antique wood and inlaid Mother of Pearl s ewing box circa 1875(or earlier) There was a note inside that this had belonged to the owner's great great aunt and had been handed down and given to her in 1970(It was about 95 years old at the time) The box includes many i m plements ALL in great condition. To include 10 Mother of Pearl and Bone spools. Eight are 1" and 2 are 1 1/2"2 MOP winders. 1 MOP wax t hreader. A 7/8" thimble marked Ste rling with an anchor mark and several ot he r implements as shown with mother of pea rl and bon e. One piece may be part of a manicure set(not sure) with a very fancy goldfilled handle. The box interior is silk with rousching and has many compartments. Antique Victorian Sheffield Sewing Kit Box Tools
Hello up for auction is an antique Victorian sewing kit in its original box. The kit is high quality and was made by Sheffield. Several of the instruments appear to be made from ivory but it might be bone. Either way. This kit was made before there was any ban on ivory products so owning it and shipping it is not an issue. One of the tools has been replaced over the years with a plastic piece. The tools and box are in very good condition considering their age. I would say this is a late Victorian sewing kit circa 1890's-1910's but I can not pin point the exact age with absolute certainty. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. LadyCom7 Antique Ladies Companion Needlework/Sewing Set English* Circa 1850 This beautiful etui is made of wood that's been covered with panels of natural shell. The fitted interior contains a matching set of ornate English sterling tools. Included are a silver thimble. Tape measure, propelling pencil, penknife, stiletto, bodkin and scissors. All test sterling silver but were made before English silversmiths were required to mark small silver items. The stiletto has a mother of pearl shank and the scissors have steel blades. A leather fold-open needle book. A mirror(silvering flaking) and a note board to write on all have their own compartments. The scalloped rim thimble has a wide band with applied decoration and wrigglework engraving. It's in nice condition. In round with with no holes or repairs. It's about an American size ... more8(15 mm diameter opening) The little tape measure has a purple silk tape(36 inches long& original) It is missing the first 1/2" The scissors have tight blades, sharp points and cut pretty well. The penknife has a sharp steel blade and closes with a snap. The blade is stamped with the maker's name, Unwin& Rodgers, in business from 1828-1867. The pencil works well(twists out the lead) and the bodkin is in the form of a fish. The silver on the tools is in excellent condition with no dents or other damage. The interior is lined with the original red paper& silk velvet. The leather below the top is gold stamped with the maker or retailer's name. B. B. Wells at 431 Strand in London. The only damage to the exterior is a small chip at the top edge and two chips on the bottom. The top has some fading from the sun and is mounted with a gold shield cartouche(not engraved) It's 4 3/8" tall, 2 1/8" wide& 2 3/8" deep. On the outside of one blade is marked in all caps, CHINA" On the other blade looks to be 3 Chinese markings/characters. There is light surface rust on the scissors, that probably could be cleaned up if you wished to do so. They still work fine. They cut paper well, but you'll need to sharpen them to cut cloth. Rare C1800's D'Amitie. Antique French Sewing Tools Necessaire, Faux Ivory, Gold Inlay The case is in great condition with no damage and it closes tight. Push down on the handle and the two sides open up. The inside of the case is nice and clean with no damage. It dose not have all the pieces. What you see is what you get. The mirror is broken, there is a piece broken off the top of the scissors. Every else thats there seems to be fine. It measures 5" high to the top of the handle 2 3/8" in diameter. There is no gold gilt missing and both hinges work great and have very nice patina along with the top handle. Any more info would be welcomed. It has a finger pinch operation with teeth like jaws on the end and a flat button on the other end. It is lined in the original silk. Leather and embossed papers and the little carved tools look to be original. The penknife has a sharp steel blade and opens and closes. The spool and thimble fit into little built in compartments, just like in some of the full sized sewing sets. Antique Germany Sterling Silver Sewing Tools - Thimble - Rare Hand Painted Etui
Beautiful Collector's Piece This Victorian Era Antique Hand Painted Sewing Kit is amazing in its detail. Collected in Paris at Marche Paul Bert. It is stated to be from Germany originally. The case is hand painted. The artwork is stunning and colors are magnificently bright and vibrant. This has been well cared for. It's quite handsome in every way. Showing traces of wear commensurate with age. Measurements are 15 cm length by 11 cm side width by 3 cm of depth. Push button closure appears as brass. Opens and closes fairly. The interior of the etui is lined with silk(buffer pad) that is edged with a chenille trim and Royal blue velvet. The mirror is original in place in good condition. Each tool incorporates the lovely silver design in repousse or etching. Implements are all stunningly designed in Sterling. 1875 ANTIQUE SEWING TOOLS -4dif-
One set of four antique sewing tools. One is marked-PAT'DJAN.26.75- on one side and-PAT.AUG.16.87- on the other side. It has a finger pinch operation with teeth like jaws on the end and a flat button on the other end. The other tool has a needle like end with a thread hole in it and a adjustable like spring to set at different depths. The third tool is marked-USA- with two different eye hole at the ends. The forth tool is 7 inches long and has eye holes on both ends with open slots and thread wound from one end to the other. See scans.
