Or the pointed button, or the hand beaded bauble. And there is the 13 matching gold lustre set. I have shown closeups of all the buttons farther below with more description. Sizes range from 1 1/4" to 3/8" The largest of the lot are the faceted buttons.these have some little flea bites on them little flea bite chips. Some of the others have tiny tiny chips as well. Most have brass shanks and the rest. Except a few, have self-shanks. There is one 2-hole sew ... morethrough and one faceted bead with a hole drilled through its middle. ALL MEASUREMENTS BELOW ARE APPROXIMATE. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The photo below shows the button that is made from what I think might be either real jet or vul canite. It has a duller finish and is more lightweight than the others. It leaves a faint black mark when rubbed across paper. Below are two of the most unusual in the group: There is a 1/4" long cone-shaped pointed bead and A 1/2" bauble with hand-sewn seed beads. It looks like a blackberry. I don't think this was a button because there is no shank and no sew-through. It is stunning and can be adapted for several uses with fashion or altered arts. This is a fabulous set of matching gold luster imprinted 5/8" cushion-shaped buttons. Two have a little wear to the gold and the rest are brilliant. All are strung together except for one. The next two photos show the rest of the gold luster buttons. The one with the shell logo is striking with the deep indentation for the shell imprint. 59 lot VICTORIAN BUTTONS antique STERLING SILVER hand painted GLASS black ENAMEL
For sale are a lot of antique and vintage buttons. There are about 59 total and range in size from 11/32" in diameter up to 29/32" long. As you can see many of them are in sets. The vast majority of these are I believe are black glass with beautiful painted detailing. There are also buttons some made of metal(left 2 rows and far right row in first picture) A set of 4 that are enameled(pic#4) and even one that is sterling silver(pic#8) A few are even made of mixed materials. Since I am not a button expert there could be other materials but what I have reported is the best that I can tell. The silver button is not marked but I do know metals and it is silver. I especially like the set of 4 mini enameled ones and they look hand painted. 3 of the 4 do have some crazing. The metal buttons noted before I suspect are vintage and not antique ... morebut this is only a hunch. The condition of the buttons in general are very nice with only light wear. Some nice ones.5 have pastes.notice the colored pastes, 1 has a crocheted thread center there is a"whistle" couple look fabric-like some iridescent lusters, shapes.etc. I haven't had these off the card but they look to be in good condition.please note size as they are larger than appear.size 3/8 to 1 3/4.all have a shank or are sew-through.light color is only scanner glare. This lot contains 100 gorgeous antique and vintage Victorian black glass buttons. Many of which have silver, gold and pink lusters. They range in size from 3/8" to 7/8" They are in very good to excellent condition. I am parting company with my button collection, as I bought them several years ago and never got around to doing the projects I had intended. If some of these lots look familiar, they are. many were purchased from Sydney and Jay in East Boothbay, Maine. ANTIQUE! VICTORIAN! Lot of 8- BLACK GLASS MOURNING buttons all different all FAB
This is a very varied and interesting lot of 8 antique black glass Victorian"Mourning" buttons. For all the black garments that everyone wore back then. Please check out all my pictures. The largest measures 1 1/8" in diameter, and the smallest is REALLY small at only 5/16" in diameter! Condition on all is very good to excellent, no major chipping going on, the only thing I saw on one of them is that the brass loop on the back of it is bent down a little, but you can still string thread through it fine. The large one is a fabric-thread backing which must be sewn on, the rest all have some sort of stringing loops or holes. It's a wonderful selection of antique buttons to display as part of a collection OR to use on period or even modern garments!Thanks for looking!
