A Mid/Late 18th Century Shagreen and White Metal Surgeons Pocket Six Lancet Etui.All the lancets have Mother of Pearl handles(two lancets are missing) The Cartouche is inscribed J.EVANS SURGEON. It is in super condition with no splits.Tears or holes in the Shagreen and it opens and closes as it should do. HISTORY After in depth research it is my belief that this Surgeons Lancet Etui may have belonged to John Evans Surgeon.Who served as assistant surgeon on board H.M.S.Britannia which fought along side H.M.S. C 1860 ANTIQUE FRENCH SEWING ETUI WITH FIVE 18K GOLD TOOLS IN faux IVORY CASE
Add An Amazing 19th Century French Sewing Set To Your Sewing Tools Collection This Is A French Gold Sewing Set With Five Ornately Decorated Sewing Tools With The Same Design. The Tools Include: A Scissors With Steel Blades. A Thimble, A Stiletto, A Bodkin With Steel Point, And A Gold Needle Case. I have spent a lot of time trying to identify the tiny. Mostly indistinct French hall marks and maker's marks on these pieces. While the marks are very difficult to read, I believe the same maker's mark appears on each. I also believe that the pieces are marked with the eagle's head mark which was used in France beginning in 1838 to indicate a 18 karat gold item. The tools are in excellent condition and do not appear to have been used much. There are some light marks to the thimble's unengraved cartouche which I could only see using ... morea loupe. The thimble is in the round and has no holes. The scissors have gold handles and steal blades which are very sharp and cut well all the way through the blades. The needle case is 2 pieces which fit tightly together. None of the tools has been repaired. Recesses were made in the base of the case to exactly accomodate the needlework tools. The base and the bottoms of the tools' spaces are of gray velvet or velveteen. The sides of the spaces are lined with the same cream colored silk with covers the inside of the case's top. The tools fit their spaces exactly. The case- made of a noble natural material which was extremely popular in France during the 19th century- has cracks in both sides. Despite that. This is a magnificent sewing etui with its original sewing tools. That this case and the 5 tools have stayed together for 150+ years is truly amazing! Antique“Faux” Tortoise Shell Needlework Box Up for bid is an early 19 th century fitted needlework box from England. The outer case is truly a magnificent display of chocolate& blonde colored natural faux tortoise shell. The outer top lid is outlined in silver which is typical of the larger boxes and in particular the ones of English origin. The inner lip trim which is assumed to be that of“faux” ivory is intact on the box base& lid. The sterling silver tools seem to be intact and appear to be original to the box. The thimble. However, is a replacement and the bodkin is assumed to be a replacement. The thimble is marked in the inside top with an S in a shield which is for Simors Bros. of Philadelphia. USA. A deep purple velvet lining surrounds the tools and is also found on the upper box lid. The outer tortoise shell at first glance appears in great condition as well. On the side of the box at the front left corner, there is a very small spot where the coating or clear like"finish" is missing. There are small chips of tortoise shell gone on the right side of the box on each bottom corner. On this same side, on the top corner toward the back there is a small place where the tortoise shell is chipped. This piece of treen was carved in the shape of a barrel. It is threaded on the inside and screws together. The piece is 2 1/8 inches tall and 1 3/8 inches wide. This piece was hand turned. This is a part of a large sewing collection we are selling. We believe it is a thimble holder but we have seen similar pieces that were inkwell holders. So it may have been used for that. Rare Vintage celluloid Native American Chief spool holder etui Indian USIR
This is a unique and we believe rare spool holder in the shape of a Native American Chief. The piece is 3 3/8 inches high and ¾ of an inch in diameter. The piece is two part and the top screws off from the bottom. We believe the piece is celluloid but it could be bakelite. The detail on the face and the headdress of the Chief is very good. There is a spool on the inside. Half of the spool is missing and there is a chip on the remaining portion. We believe this dates to the early 20 th century. And could be as early as the late 19 th century. The holder is in excellent condition with no damage. It is marked on the bottom with what we believe reads USIR. Please see photo. VERY RARE Antique Vintage Victorian Silver Thimble Etui cut glass scent bottle
Incredible silver Thimble forming a case(étui) discretely hiding a miniature cut glass bottle to hold scent or perfume. To perhaps refresh the'Lady' while sewing? There are no hallmarks that I can see but a Jeweller has assured me it is solid Silver. Similarly there is no size marked on the Thimble- Measurements: Diameter base thimble 1.6cms Diameter base etui 1.8cms Diameter crown of Thimble 1.2cms Height thimble 2.5cms Height étui 3.5cms The Thimble& Etui are in Excellent condition. Just the silver could do with some polishing, but I would rather leave that to the'experts' See the pretty engraved pattern around the center of the Thimble with also a'shield' engraved ready for initials! The Thimble screws onto the base holding the scent bottle. This screw works perfectly. The indentations on the base ... moreof the Etui I feel sure are there for a reason. But I have found no information about them. The Miniature cut glass bottle has 9 facets with more. Even smaller, shoulder' facets. The stopper is in perfect condition and if you look closely you will see a pattern built into the top from air bubbles. I presume. The lower part of the stopper has been ground so as to fit well. Late 1700's/early 1800's, Georgian, continental[unmarked, but tested] silver travelling etui. The etui is pocket sized and of tapering form, with push button opening and hinged lid. The body is embossed with a rococo style design. The hinged lid opens to reveal compartments for a fitted interior, sadly only contains one of the original tools. There are several tools lacking. The only item present is an oxbone rule. Measurements; Measures 3& 3/4 inches by 1& 7/8 inches approx. Condition; The item is in reasonable order. I would like to present this chic and sweet handcrafted needle case that I have created just for you. This needle case is fashioned with"Sweetness Pink& Red Camelias All Over" a 100% Cotton fabric by Quilting Treasures and lined with"Masquerade Phantom of the Opera" in red, also by Quilting treasures. The outside is embellished with a vintage square filigree brass button with an elastic cording closure, and an organza bow. Inside you will see the different trimmings- elasticized ruffled organza hold the thimble and the needle threader. There is a heart-shaped pin keep attached with satin ribbon. I have made an individual case for the scissors which I have ... moreadded a silky tassel to and a tiny heart shaped golden charm that says"handmade with love" and attached several lengths of vintage seam binding for the needles on the last two sides of the interior. I have designed these needle cases after an antique Victorian needle case I saw from an estate sale. I have since found out that needle cases like these were given as a wedding gift for the new bride in Victorian times. Fashioned in the shape of a heart. Each is padded and reinforced with card stock, and come fully supplied with an assortment of everyday needles along with specialty needles, for a total of 18 in all. I have also included a"rubber fingertip" thimble, a needle threader, and a pair of gold-plated stork embroidery scissors. The dimensions are 5" wide x 5" long x 1 1/2" deep. Super antique 1800's leather cased figural sewing etui/kit in the form of a suitcase with handle- strong clasp to front. Exterior in excellent condition- embossed Mrs. Sims to the front right hand bottom corner and the maker's name- Finnegans& Co. Manchester and Liverpool- in gilt lettering to the underside of base. In pretty good condition- there is a small split to each end of the leather hinge of the lid. External measurements are 18.5cm x 14cm deep including handle and 5.3cm high. Inside of lid is covered in plush red velvet with leather restraining straps to hold tools- currently a pair of scissors. A steel stiletto with cow bone handle and a steel crochet hook with cow bone and white metal handle. Base is lined in leather- plush velvet recessed compartment to hold a thimble. Other tools include 2 tiny wooden thread spools ... moremade by Rickards and a larger wooden thread spool made by Barbour; bag of small steel pins; small plastic box of brass pins generally used for lacemaking; white metal thimble; commercial card winder holding silk for stringing pearls and beads; small leather coin purse with white metal frame.
