Tiny Japanese MEIJI SATSUMA PORCELAIN Rooster button. This is such a small button. Only Approximately 5/8" Smaller than a dime. The rooster is very detailed and well done. It's like a tiny work of art. The rooster is red with black tail feathers. Gold outlines the whole rooster and depicts the feathers and the beak. The rooster is important in the Japanese culture. Parts of it are believed to exemplify courage and reliability. They are sacred and allowed to roam freely. Even into the temples. The morning calls are believed to call to the Goddess Amaterasu. So this button, even with its small size is important. The button itself is outlined in gold. The background is the typical ivory glaze of the Satsuma button. The back of the button is raised with a hole in it for the shank. Beautiful button in such perfect condition it is difficult ... moreto believe it is as old as it is. Japanese Satsuma Button Bolo Tie
This is an attractive Western style bolo tie with a Japanese Satsuma button accent. The button portion measures just over 1 1/8 inches across. It is in good condition. No cracks, and has normal crazing which is common/normal for these Satsuma style pieces. The design is a cowboy riding a bucking horse. I do not know if this was made out of a Satsuma button or if it was originally made to be a bolo tie. The bolo is made out of leather which is in good condition. This is a wonderful group of 3 very rare and very old. Antique ceramic Satsuma buttons. The largest button is 1.5" in diameter and has a Samurai with a group of children, the second largest is 1.25" in diameter and is a lovely floral, is signed by artist on the back and the smallest is approx. 3/4" of an inch in diameter, has a bird, flowers. All are heavily decorated, gilded in gold and in fantastic condition for their age. No chips, cracks to be seen, they're all lovely! She began collecting in the 1930's and passed away four years ago at 103. The collections encompass all periods. Styles and materials. Japanese MEIJI SATSUMA PORCELAIN button. This button is approximately 1.25" It isthe cream satsuma color with a gold rim around the edge. The boy is protrayed as happy. Almost dancing. His clothes are brightly colored with gold accents. He seems to be holding a cookie and a white dog is standing on his hind legs begging There is a lot of detail is this small picture. On the back is a gold circle that may be a signature. The shank is a raised part of the button with a hole through it. There is crazing thoughout the button, but that is due to age.
