We continue offering items from a consignment that have been in a Southwestern New Hampshire family for years. As we have now discovered, back into the first half of the 19th century. My consignor explains; To the best of my knowledge my family were primarily farmers in Dublin. NH. There were several generations living on the farms at the same time. Farm income was supplemented by various means. Bone Needle 2 Awls 3 Buttons ? Antler ?
Estate find. These awls, buttons and a needle all appear to be made of bone, or perhaps antler? Needle s flat and measures about 3 7/16" long, 5/16" across(at widest point) and just under 1/8" thick. The eye of the needle is about 1" long and 1/8" across Awls are round and measure about 2 7/8" long and 1/4" across. The awl with the hole in it has a very worn point. Buttons are about 5/8" across, and stand 1/4" tall. All in pretty nice shape, but do show wear and soiling. Thanks for looking and please check out our other auctions. Four"faux ivory" bone amulets. Or hooks or fasteners for clothing, hand-carved from natural, organic material in the likeness of animals. I'm not exactly sure what these are for, this is a semi-educated guess, and any better information would be appreciated. One is a horse. One a ram, one an elephant, the fourth is a dragon. The dragon is slightly smaller and of lighter color than the other three, and may be not as early, or made by another artisan. The horse. The ram and the elephant all measure approx. 2" long and have painted eyes. They are a creamy ivory color with wonderful patina from years of use& handling. Although of the same form. The dragon appears to be somewhat later, and measures approx. 1&15/16" l. it's eyes are not painted and the color is slightly lighter than the other three. Weight for ... moreall four is 16.9 grams. Early buttons 10 ivory or bone and 3 metal - sewing collectible made before 1900
14 early buttons of which are a yellow white or white and have a nub end sort of like small cuff links. The other 3 are metal or steel. 5 of the earlier ones look like ivory or bone because I see faint striping. 4 are a shiny white. They might be collar buttons. Here is a lovely selection of 82 antique. Probably from the late 1800s to early 1900s; and vintage, circa 1930s-1940s, fresh water pearl, mother-of-pearl, bone and plastic buttons in several sizes. There are some 2 hole underwear buttons and some teeny tiny baby buttons, most are two hole but there are a number of 4 hole, 23 are on the original cards. The largest is 7/8" and the smallest down to the previously mentioned tiny baby buttons. Many are wafer thin having come from a very old button box collection. These are perfect to add to another collection or ready to begin work on crafts. Bonus surprise buttons will be added to this sale. These are estate buttons and are being sold as is. Fifty-five little buttons. Some very tiny. Several are from a collection of antique buttons and a couple are very thin. Most of the loose buttons are white bone or mother of pearl with a couple of pinks and almost all are 2 or 4 holes. There are seven cards of buttons, from the 1940s or 1950s, all full cards except for the one with the tiny pink heart. All of the buttons on cards are shanks. They are all pastel colors: a bright pink heart, three pink dots, three white bunnies, five iridescent flat whites, three iridescent blue flowers, five tiny pink baby sweater buttons, and five tiny pale green baby sweater buttons. Some of the antique buttons show age wear. The carded buttons are in fine condition but the cards are dusty and discolored. These are estate buttons being sold as is.
