Very rare and hard to find cast iron Dragon or Dolphin Fish vintage sewing bird clamp. Hemming clamp or antique third hand. Museum quality.This is missing the pin cushion and the handle that fits on the screw clamp no cracks breaks or repairs. I have not cleaned this at all, great patina for its age. There are no patent dates or makers marks on this item. The eyes have the glass or jewell's in them.They are a very deep red colour allmost a ruby shade of red. The spring clamp is good and tight and the mouth fits tight on the needlework fabric. Shipping on this will be just what the Post Office charges me or can be picked up at our farm. Great trading material for other bird fish stag clamps. Very reasonable starting price and reserve.

Up for auction is this antique brass sewing bird clamp. The brass has a darkened patina! It was acquired at a Massachusetts Estate Sale. The spring appears to be missing thereby not allowing the beak to stay closed. The pincushion is without its velvet top& it appears that the wings have been broken off& are missing. 1800s Eastlake folding nursing sewing rocking chair w Bird & Floral Tapestry
You are looking at a folding Eastlake rocker. Wood type(oak, walnut, cherry? not pine) This type of rocker has been called a sewing chair, a nursing chair and a slipper rocker. It has beautifully detailed carving in the wood. It may have been reupholstered and/or restained at some point. The fabric is in good condition with no rips or tears. It does not smell and has no stains. The back is carved ornamental spindles and the trim has some reeding in it. See photos 9& 10 which show the main"imperfections" in the chair including small chips and bubbles in the stain. This is a really old piece, I believe it is from the mid to late 1800's. The chair folds up and is smaller in size. I do not know the maker or exact date this chair was made. It is antique and will not be perfect. Hello Friends, I just finished this sweet Prim Pin Cushion Pinkeep/Needlekeep for your consideration. The bird and its tuffet are made of 100% Vintage Wool. The bird is tan with accents wings. Of herringbone wine colored wool with hand stitching all around. Violet bead eyes are attached. With tan DMC thread. The Tuffet is coordinated with the bird's wings-the wool herringbone. In wine color. It is"scalloped" with DMC thread. Tightly secured and antique buttons(top and bottom. Of tuffet) create the indented area for the bird to"nest" in and for the tuffet to sit flat. Very nice Victorian era sewing bird with the original cranberry velvet pincushion. Fancy embossed clamp was anchored to a stand while the little bird held fabric in his beak as a guide through an early sewing machine. The cushion held the pins that kept the fabric in place. As most all early clothing and quilting were sewn by hand. These sweet little birds lent a bit of help and cheer to a woman's hard day of work. An antique dealer’s statement of value for this item is $325.00 This antique Brass Sewing Bird Clamp is in used condition. The sewing bird is about 4" x 5" and has 2 areas for pin cushions. The bottom cushion is original but has been recovered. The top cushion was missing so it has been replaced and matches the bottom cushion. The bird clamp for the material still clamps tightly and the screw clamp for the table moves freely- they are not froze up or broken. The mark on the top of one wing reads Patented and on the other wing. It looks like FEB. It is circa 1850 and is a unique piece of sewing memorabilia. The vintage antique Pin Cushion is in used condition. The pin cushion has some wear on the maroon brocade. It is about 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" and includes a few old needles. Pins& safety pins. I would imagine the actual tin canister might have been is from the 1930’s or 1940’s and was hand painted with the Pennsylvania Dutch motif of a Blue Bird and Tulips and then more than likely converted into a woman’s sewing tin. On the face of the tin are three tulip flowers with intertwined stems and vain leaves hand painted in red and orange. In the center there is a blue bird with colorful plumage and a spotted body. All of this appears upon a background field of yellow ochre which appears to have been washed on. These are hand pained in blue red and green. Around the lower half of the side panel there is a repeated pattern of tulip flowers. ... moreThe bottom along with the side is painted with the same orche background as the lid. The condition is really great with some flakes of paint loss and small chipping in areas along with some minor dings and surface wear. Nothing really too serious to take away from this beautiful piece of Americana county Pennsylvania Dutch artistry. Would look great on a wall. Fireplace mantle or bookcase. There are many features in this antique handmade Folk Art Sewing Pin Cushion that make it unique. First off the OG serpentine top measures ... more4 ½” square by 4” tall to the top of the original wool cushion. There is one tiny hole to the wool and the original banding has separated along the top edge. There is an optical illusion to the double curved inlay on each side. When you look at the box from the corners one the inlaid curves turn straight. In the close-up photograph you will see a chip to the corner. There is a small dovetailed draw on the side. When you look inside the opening and at the bottom of the draw you can see that there is something missing. Originally there was a strip of spring maple attached inside the groove in the case. This strip would also fit into the groove carved under the draw bottom. When you closed the draw the strip would snap in place so the draw would not open. Hidden near the edge of the pin cushion is a tiny slot where a lever just stuck out. This lever attached down to the mechanism and you would push it to release the draw. All of this mechanism is missing. But any competent woodworker could replace it. At the bottom of this antique Sewing Bird Pin Cushion is a wood screw constructed from turned maple and walnut. Antique Victorian Sewing Bird Clamp Pin Cushion Helping Hand Patented Feb 1853
Offered here for your bidding perusal is this handsome and ornate brass antique sewing bird clamp with a patent date of February 15. 1853! This interesting sewing tool is also known as a"helping hand" for its functional uses to the home sewer. The bird could be clamped on the edge of a table where it would stay at the ready to hold onto needle work in its beak for the Victorian seamstress. Also, the bird originally came with two small pin cushions to hold pins and needles. One pin cushion would have been found in the cup on the bird's back, amd the other would have been screwed onto the top of the clamp(both are now missing) This handy little item was not only practical, but decorative as well. Note the lovely embossed details stamped into the brass, including the patent information on each wing, as pictured. The metal has oxidized ... morewith time and exposure, making the embossed designs stand out against the age darkened patina. I show the bird with a small embroidered crazy quilt in its beak. The hinged beak does not clamp down sufficiently to hold onto a tinner piece of fabric as some sort of damage has occurred to the hinge mechanism. Still, a great conversation piece! This is 2 of 2. and is the perfect one, for the most part the cusions are gone. like this one. The sewing bird is used to hold the corners of what-ever your patching. Some say it's mostly used for Patch Work Quilts with a bird at eack corner. This bird still has a strong squeesing type spring. You would pinch the tail with it's bottom to open the beek and that is how it holds. Then you would attach the bird to a wood corner and crank it down. Brass Sewing Bird clamp is in great condintion. It looks like it had a smaller pin cushion on its back that is missing. The bird is 3 3/4 inches long. All of the moving parts work as intended. The clamp is marked Japan with a set of numbers that I can't fully make out. This is an estate item.

Victorian Sterling Sewing Scissors W/ Ornate Bird & Blossom Handles
Description This lovely antique sewing scissors is very Victorian. It measures 4 1/4" long. 2 1/4" wide, and has very unusual and lovely handles with flying birds and exotic flowers. The handles also have serpentine edges and a somewhat unusual shape. The blades are steel and have turned up ends. The handles are marked"Sterling" but have no company name or marks; the design indicates this piece is probably from the 1890's. The scissors is in very good condition with no dents or cracks in the handles except small indents where the handles have clicked together on closing. The handles are securely attached to the blades. Fancy embossed clamp was anchored to a stand while the little bird held fabric in his beak as a guide through an early sewing machine. The cushion held the pins that kept the fabric in place. As most all early clothing and quilting were sewn by hand. These sweet little birds lent a bit of help and cheer to a woman's hard day of work. Made of an attractive and thin; but sturdy pressed metal. Beak works freely, clamp works fine. Nice original condition. When you know what to look for, you can make out the word Patent on the right wing, and part of the date on the left wing. Another example I found shows the date to be Feb. 15, 1853. Six Nations Souvenir Beaded Sewing Bird Canada
This beaded sewing bird measures 6" long by 6" tall(including perch) by 2" wide. In very good condition- no loss of beads. No worn spots, complete with double strands of clear beads for hanger, which is approx 8" long. The bird is made of ecru broadcloth with red cotton tail lining. It is embroidered with turquiose-blue and amber beads. The eyes are formed by 1 black bead surrounded by 4 white beads.The bird holds a"strawberry" in his mouth; and 2"berries" hang the perch. Souvenir birds were made by Mohawk women on the Six Nations Reserve, Oshweken and sold by them at Niagara Falls Ontario, Canada from 1900- approx 1925.
