47 fabulous antique mother of pearl buttons include squares. Ovals, rounds, carved, and some with metal embellishments. These range in size from 9/16" to 1.5" diameter. The large square buttons measure 1.5" square. The ovals measure a hair over 1" by 3/4" There is a dime in the first photo for better size comparison. There are two hole buttons, two of them have self shanks, the rest have inserted metal loop shanks. The last photo shows the back of all the buttons. They are in good condition with no cracks or repairs. The large square in the center has a chipped corner as shown. There are a few expected flea bites on some of them from over the years. Just 3 little 11/16” carved shell buttons. One of which does not have quite the definition in carving on the inner abalone circle as the other two. Some of the aspects of making these buttons still relied on the individual operating the somewhat primitive“machines” used for carving the buttons so all will not be identical. That same button had the slight misfortune of touching something rusty as it sat for years in a button box. I managed to get some of the rust stains off but there are still two orangey spots on the side of the button where the shell is unpolished and more porous. For this item. Perhaps bakelite, 9/16" diameter, vintage buttons There are 12 carved buttons that look like faux ivory. But are newer and some type of composite material. They are 5/8" to 1" in size. The green. Red, yellow leaf is plastic, 1/2" in size. All are sew-thru type except the green plastic leaf which has a shank backing. All are in excellent condition! These buttons are made of glass in a brass setting. The buttons feature a reverse carved. Intaglio style horse head design. The glass is domed and sits on a Mother of Pearl background for a gorgeous effect. This button set is in very good condition. The glass has no flaws.
