Antique Greist Sewing Machine Attachment Box With Attachments for Treadle Mach.
This is an antique black metal sewing machine attachment box with lid clamps made to hold attachments for treadle sewing machines. The box has purple felt lining. I could only find a name on one of the old attachment which has The Greist Mfg Co. Pat Apd for, New Haven, Conn, USA. It is on the large attachment which is in the lower left corner of the third picture. I was told the box was also made by Greist but I do not find any markings. The box measures approximately 6-1/2 inches long by 3 inches wide by 1-3/4 inches tall. Please look closely at the attachments because some of them are really old and have some rust. Nice antique oak Singer treadle sewing machine attachment puzzle box. It's marked on the top"Patented February 19. 1889" It's lined with purple velvet and folds out to reveal the attachments. Most of the attachments are gone. But there are a few left. It's in good original overall condition with marks and wear typical of an antique item. The lid latches properly and the hinges operate smoothly. The velvet lining is dusty and has a f ew loose threads around the edges. The lining in the upper left corner shows a litt le but of curling. Details: This wonderful sewing box was made in France in the late 18th to early 19th century. The top is hand painted with a scene of figures at the sea coast. The edges of the box are decorated with fine painted lines and cross hatching. The main color is black with the border decoration in pink and white. In the bottom drawer there are little wooden boxes for thread. Each one has the color name in French on its lid. All but two remain. The bottom drawer has two slide out supports for thread winders. The winders are in disrepair. But remain in their compartments. This piece is in very good. Unrestored condition. There have been alterations made along the way. The blue velvet covering the interior is not original. There was ... morea center drawer at one time. The top section was made deeper so just the drawer face remains on top. It's attached only by the adhesive used for the velvet lining. I've left it this way to make restoring the drawer easier, but it could simply be glued to the box at its edges if you want to keep a deeper compartment on top. Each of the four box panels has a dovetailed end that is cut diagonally to fit together on the ends ~ please see the photos as this is very difficult to describe. Box is oak and in very good condition. Lined in what I believe is the original velvet. The original clips that held notions and parts have been removed. This darling wood 19th century thread holder is topped by a nice. Plump pin cushion. The thread holder is a round hat with holes that hold copper pins. These can be removed and thus the thread can be mounted. This makes it a perfect companion for the embroiderer in your life. The caddy also has a small drawer for needles and a thimble may be and some embroidery scissors. The wood has a nicely inlaid band around the base and the drawer has a half round front. The piece is in very good condition, the feet have some residue around them on the bottom of the piece. This is not visible from the top but should be mentioned to be complete. Antique Six Sided 10 1/2 inch Reed Basket with Lid
For your consideration is a fabulous old six sided 10 1/2 inch woven basket with lid. I believe you would call this a reed basket. I do not know the exact age. Nor the origin, unfortunately. You can see in one of the pictures, two gaps in the weaving where the hinge must have been. Also, on the lid, there are two very distinct holes through which something was strung. This basket is not perfect. The lid has one bad corner, just next to the hinge area. The bottom has two"bad" corners, opposite each other.these are pictured. Antique Clark”s Sewing Kit Box This is a wonderful find and it is only 4 ¾ wide by 2 ½ tall by 3 ½ deep. It is a wooden box with a velvet type of covering. Please look at the antique ornate hardware! This box has a lift out kit with 6 old spools on it and a pin cushion and a thimble holder all in good condition. Description Wonderful antique sewing or trinket box. Which has been produced from multi coloured straw work with geometric design, and was probably produced by Napoleonic prisoners of war. The Similar example of this type of straw work sewing tools and boxes can be seen in Bridget McConnel's book The Story of Antique Needlework Tools. On page 120. AGE Circa 1800. SIZE The box measures 16.8cm(6½" long. 11cm(4¼" deep and stand 6.5cm(2½" tall. CONDITION The box is in a good condition for age. Although as is often found with these early straw work pieces there is some wear and damage. The straw has dried out in places and cracked, with sections lifting and mssing. There is also a crack along the back edge of the lid. The stained detail to the straw is very faded, with the top of the lid very dark and discoloured(the ... moresides are brighter! Beautiful Shaker sewing basket. Hinged lid. Satin ribbon woven around the box and through the top. I believe it is made of sawgrass? Wooden bottom that has a number. Written in pencil, but I can't quite make it out(69318- maybe) Somebody also carved their name in the bottom- looks like Johnny. Box is not perfect, it does have a little damage. Closure is missing. There is a little damage in some of the weaving- I took lots of pictures so please check carefully. Looks like there was probably some sort of a lining in the inside that was removed. For auction is this 1920's vintage sewing basket with coins. Glass beads and ring on the lid. I count 5 coins, one blue glass ring and 11 glass beads. It is wicker I believe from Japan. There is a small tag inside that reads Made In China. It measures 6 1/4 inches across and 2 1/2 inches tall. Color dark brown. Antique Silk Scraps in early 1900s Sewing Basket. Made in Germany by C Z& Co. This antique wicker-and-wood basket features a half-moon shaped handle attached with two wires. Similar clasp is intact. But hinges are missing. There is an untied ribbon that may have been used by the former owner as a hinge. Basket is constructed of willow and multicolor woven raffia or grass strips woven over splints and a tacked-on wood bottom with four tiny legs. Integrity of the basket itself is surprisingly strong, given the fact that it is over 100 years old. On the bottom of the basket is a printed sticker reading"C Z& Co. Which, according to research, indicates the basket was made in Germany. There is also a very faded article number reading"E 23823 D. Significant issues with the inside. The pink satin lining is shredding. The tufted ... morelid cover is also detached and shredding. Please see photos. We did not attempt to clean due to its fragility. But the tufted panel could no doubt be reattached to the lid. Antique Wood SHAKER? SEWING Basket Band Box Sabbathday Unusual Handmade With Lid This auction is for a lovely little Shaker sewing basket. It is made of a beautiful honey colored wood. With a slightly darker lid that has a variegated design. It is similar to the Shaker band boxes. This has one large wrapped piece that overlaps, and it is secured with woven reed through holes in the wood. The lid has a handle, and the lid slips into 2 side pieces that hold it in place. I believe this is circa 1940's or older. It is not marked on the bottom. I think it is Shaker made, but I am not positive, could be an American Primitive made by someone else. This cute sewing basket measures 13" long and 6 1/4" across. The basket is 6" high to the top of the handle. Overall condition is good. With light wear that is typical of the age. There ... moreare a few scrapes to the original finish that is on the wood here and there. There is a dent to the edge of the lid. There is a crack to the bottom on the inside, but not on the outside of the basket. There is a seam on the base of the outside of the basket. There are small nails on the outside that holds the basket to the base. This has a coat of varnish on it. The lid has a really pretty marbled design to the grain of the wood, where the handle and main body of the basket is larger grain, more like pine or maple. Overall a beautiful piece of handiwork(maybe Shaker) that would be nice for a sewing basket collection. Or just to decorate with. Thanks! Push down on the handle and the two sides open up. The inside of the case is nice and clean with no damage. It dose not have all the pieces. What you see is what you get. The mirror is broken, there is a piece broken off the top of the scissors. Every else thats there seems to be fine. It measures 5" high to the top of the handle 2 3/8" in diameter. There is no gold gilt missing and both hinges work great and have very nice patina along with the top handle. Any more info would be welcomed. Up for sale is a extreme well cared for Antique(1890-1900) Wakefield Rattan Company Very Ornate Sewing Basket Work Stand. Made by the Wakefield Rattan Company(Located at 174 Portland St. Boston at that time) Later to become the Heywood Wakefield Furniture Company. This lovely item is in original condition. With the original company tag on the bottom. It is in clean condition. We only found place that has a little piece of rattan that was missing. Practically unnoticable. On the back side, one leg has a couple wrappings of rattan missing just below the basket area. We have included a picture. As you can see it blends in, just a couple windings are missing letting the tacks underneath be seen. It has brass caps on the bottom of each leg. Item measures 16" x 13" and stands 29" tall with the handle down to the side. We found a ... morepicture of one very similiar in the 1896 Sales Catalogue for Wakefield Rattan Company. The Wakefield Rattan Company merged with the Heywood Brothers around 1920 marking items Heywood-Wakefield. This item is marked on the tag Wakefield Rattan Company. Old Antique 1912 German Victorian Woven Sewing Basket Box Silk Pin Cushion Vtg
Up for auction is a wonderful antique Victorian Era German sewing basket. Beautiful weaving pattern with plaiting braids. And pink cane. Inside is lined in powder pink tufted silk with a pin cushion on the lid. Basket is hinged with metal loops and little ropes hold the lid open. Made In Germany sticker on bottom. Inscribed in pencil"Feb 14, 1912 From Papa Harold" Basket is in good condition with signs of age and use. One of the ropes is broken, wear to the silk fabric including tears, especially along the inner sides of the basket. Some soiling, broken braids/coils, patina from age. Please see photos carefully for details. Measures about 3 3/4" H x 8 7/8" W x 6 1/8" D. Very cute old basket! Fresh out of a fine old estate! The box is a hexagon and has a beautiful woven wicker pattern. The center of each side is a lovely flat wicker weave. While the edges are a braided wicker design.There are stripes of red painted trim and the handle on top is painted red wicker as well. The inside is a quilted and ruched fuchsia silk, that covers the underside of the lid, plus the walls and the bed of the box. There is cushion padding underneath to stick sewing pins and needles into for safe storing. The most fascinating part about this sewing box is that inside it lies a music box. On the underside. There is a wind that needs a key. A label sits in the middle that has written on it"Sing me to sleep.
