This is a wonderful antique sewing box that rotates. Rare and unusual. It may be made of walnut. It has a lid and finial. The finial has a chip missing and a repair. Inside the box is a pin. Needle, and thimble holder. There are cut metal spool holders with wood spools. Everything in the photo is included. The dimensions are 6 7/8" wide top opening. 7 1/2" wide at the widest point, 6" tall to the top of the lid, not including the finial. Scroll through all the photos and enlarge them. Antique sewing box made in China circa 1850 with hand painted gilt design. Inside is the original tray with many different tools hand carved from bone. Includes various needles. Spindles, thimbles, and a tiny clamp with threaded post. Also includes original pincushion and two compartments with hand painted lids. Bone covers for each corner need to be reglued and one foot missing. A few abrasions on the outside edges, one small spot with covering separated from base, otherwise excellent condition throughout. What's unique about this box is that when I opened it there was a letter inside which is in the photos. It appears the box is from the early 1800's. It's about 10" long by about 6-8" wide. Vintage Wood Sewing Box Butler wTwo Side Lid Opening Carry Handle Thread Holder
This is a nice old wooden sewing box made by Butler measuring 12" long by 11 1/2" deep by about 9" high to t he top of the handle. There is a wood spool tray on the inside that is removable. The finish is warn but not scratched or gouged that I can see and there is a slight separation of the veneer as shown in pictures but nothing that couldn't be easily repaired. This is an antique/vintage Victorian wooden& papier mache hamging sewing box with pin cushion and 7 metal thread spool holders. It is all wooden except for the curved front surround piece which is papier mache. The bottom is wood. As is the ledge for the spools. I consider it to be in good vintage condition, the only damage being to the papier mache surround piece, which would respond well to some repair. The box measures 11" in height, 9 3/8" in width across the spools, and 4 7/8" in depth. The top front of the box has a thin black inlay piece. Near the top is a 3/8" in diameter hole for hanging. There is also a round wool covered pincushion attached. It measures 3.5" in width and 3.25" in height. Beneath the pincushion is s piece of Victorian ephemera with a bouquet of flowers, and a white dove whose beak ... moreis touching what looks like a picture postcard of a sailboat on a lake(picture 2) In picture 3, you see the wooden ledge that has 7 metal pins to store spools of thread. The thread is included in the auction. Beneath the spool rack, is the body of the box. The depth of the box is 1.75" The curved portion is papier mache or pressed paper that is covered with a veneer of dark brown paper. It is this portion of the box that is damaged, in that the outer veneer has chipped away in places, and some of the heavy paper has bent(picture 4) It is more cosmetic than anything, as it doesn't affect the utility of the box. Picture 6 is a close up of the interior of the box that is shown in picture 5. Here, again, you see that some of the veneer has worn away. Picture 7 shows the back of the piece which is all wood. Picture 9 is another close-up of the wearing away of veneer on the inside of the box that you see in picture 8. Picture 10 is a close-up of the left lower corner of the box in picture 8. Interior of box& bottom of drawer both marked in pencil"22" so it was a production piece from a small workshop or small factory. Drawer in good condition with glued. Not dovetailed corners, appliques in very good condition, varnish is well patinated from age, small half moon nick to edge of red painted knob, knob appears to also be made of pressed sawdust composite. Box has some loss to base trim applique on rear corners. One side applique has 2 shrinkage cracks, other side applique has 1 shrinkage crack, rear applique solid as are the 4 top flowers, oval trim applique around pin cushion has 3 small shrinkage cracks. Trim directly under ... morefloral appliques& above base trim has 3 shrinkage cracks(one large at rear corner with a lost point) Pin cushion glue has dried& released making it easier if one wanted to recover it. Slot on left side of base designed to slip into protrusion of sewing table and dug out portion of interior can be seen in 6th pic. All varnish well patinated. Bottom is pasted blue marbled paper. 22" marks would indicate most probable American or European manufacture& probably made in or near Ohio. Belonged to my great grandmother. ebay Vintage Duck Folk Art Wooden Octagon Shaped Sewing Box Spool Scissor Holder This lovely vintage octagon shaped wooden sewing box has eight wooden peg thread holders and a wooden duck on the top with a pin cushion on his back. There is a slot cutout to hold scissors which become the ducks beak. The pin cushion is along the ducks back and there are two small tacks painted black with a white dot for his eyes. The octagon shaped sewing box itself has eight wooden pegs for the spools of thread and a short peg in front of the duck which holds a thimble. One of the octagon sides opens as a drawer to hold needles and other sewing items. The bottom has some kind of light covering so the box will not scratch anything. The box and duck top are made of plywood has been varnish and it has turn a darker colour than it started as. Included with the ... moresewing box are eight spools of J. P. Offered is one victorian era red velvet covered box in very good condition. Interior is silk tufted which is also in good order. The mirror on the inside shows light age spotting. Hinges and clasp work as they should. In the center is a brass figure on horseback and corners are silver metal equestrian motifs. Measures 7 7/8"long x 3 3/4"high. Antique. Ca 1820, burl walnut(not absolutely certain) sewing and vanity box, containing most of its original bone tools and implements. Brass escutcheon and lid cartouche. Non-working lock with original key. Brass hinges. Original mirror in good condition(small losses of back foil) Fitted tray lined with moroccan leather. The tool compartments outlined in gold. Tin foil inside the toothbrush compartment. Separate padded silk cover. The lower space with a large compartment lined in silk. Two small leather lined compartments, and a green velvet pincushion with the name of one of the previous owners in head pins. Some wear consistent with age and use. LOT OF 4 ANTIQUE SEWING ITEMS due to age of items and age wear. All items are being sold as found. the Victorian sewing box is great with a few problems. the pin cushion top is original but the plush has worn off the velvet over the years. this is a common event. the other problem is the top has a small piece missing from one corner and the other corner has been glued- see photo 3. 4& 6 one foot is missing and was replaced with a screw- see last photo all in all still a great box. 7" x 5 1/2" x 6" tall the Victorian pin cushion looks like it was never used. it is very firm. the carved bone needle case has a partial Stanhope in the top. the metal needle case is from England and has a dial needle size top.

Up for auction is a BEAUTIFUL antique w ooden sewing/thread box measuring about 7" w) X 5 1/2" d) X 6 1/2" h) It is in Excellent condition for its very ld age. The cloth pincushion that was attached to the large knob on the top is missing. But could easily be replaced/refabricated. The box is embellished with 8 carved white finials. The same material is also used for the circular openings in the front and sides of the top tier of the box(I believe that these openings were used to feed thread from the inside spools to the outside. There is a thin pull out mirror(the small white knob is used to pull out the wooden section that houses the mirror. Ther is some silvering on the mirror. This is a vintage sewing wooden. 3-tiered and handpainted. It is filled with the original sewing items and the box was found and acquired in Boston, MA at a vintage sale. Old house, old stuff. The sewing box has one flaw as I have attempted to show you in the photographs. The little slice of wood is chipped and it needs a thin nail on both sides of that lid to close and open correctly. This auction includes a very old sewing box. The box is intricately carved all over. It has bone trim. Of which some is missing. There are a few pieces included that can be used to restore it. The box has four claw feet that I believe are made of cast iron. One of them has had the two screws replaced(see picture) There is an original screw included. The inside is lined with faded velvet that isn't in very good shape. One glass knob is missing. There are some extra pieces of wood that probably belong inside somewhere. A small. Black lacquered, French sewing/ needle work/ thimble box approx. 4.5" x 3" x 1" with a hinged lid. Decorated with flowers on the lid, there is also a shield and banner on the left hand corner of the lid. The shield also incorporates a thimble(please see photo) The wording on the banner reads: FLVCTVAT NEC MERCITVR" which I is Latin and translates to"IT FLOATS& DOES NOT SINK" and is the motto for Paris, France. The fact that the shield also incorporates a thimble along with the ship could mean that it was part of a thimble or sewing guild and that the box probably dates to somewhere between 1870 and 1890. Fine antique victorian walnut pin cushion sewing caddy with drawer and feet
Great old antique pin cushion with drawer and ball feet. Believed to be made of walnut. Standing about 8 inches tall. The cylindrical top contains a velvet pin cushion, and has pegs that hold 2 spools of thread each. The pegs are metal with wooden ball tops- see 4th photo- you can see the hole where the peg is inserted to hold the spools. The storage drawer has a wooden knob and is about 4 1/4 inches deep. One condition issue an old repair- see main and 2nd photo- the top rim has a piece about 2.5 inches that must have been snapped off and glued back on; can see the old glue residue. It does not detract from the beauty of this piece, and I didn't attempt to clean it. The spools of thread are old too. Came out of an old CT waterfront estate. Has great patina, and is very charming. Gorgeous Antique Victorian Sewing box featuring wonderful dreamy landscape. The box consists of wood with a combined wood/fabric façade. As shown in the photos. The outside of the box has two different types of fabric. The box includes of some sewing contents as depicted in photos. In decent antique condition. Natural wear and tear. There is a small pull-out drawer perfect for stowing pins or buttons, 6 spool holders(or use 1 of them to place your thimble) open compartments on top for extra storage and a hand sewn silk pin cushion. A fantastic vintage item! From what I understand McVitie& Price were biscuit makers! But this tin came to me with the information that it was once a sewing kit. I can magine it was used as one or maybe for hat pins back in the day! A beautiful romantic tin in a unique round shape. It has a snap down lid. This one is stamped on the bottom Edinburgh. The company originally started out in Edinburgh. But the factory burned down. My research says"The name derives from the original Scottish biscuit maker. McVitie& Price, Ltd. established in 1830 on Rose Street in. So this is an older one. Some scratches and wear to it as you can see in the photos.
