Adorable antique kitty tape measurer that retracts wonderfully. Without any struggle, as this vintage sewing/kitten collectible is in very good antique condition. Gorgeous Antique Tape Measure This fantastic little tape measure is made of brass and shaped as a Mandolin. It has a little handle and upon winding the tape measure comes out and goes back in. It dates from the mid to late 1800s. It is an incredible little item to have survived in such good condition. The outer has no real damage or dents. Just a few small scratches to the back. The tape measure as well is in brilliant condition and winds well. It has a small tear by 1cm but apart from this it is in very good condition. It is believed to be of French origin which explains why the tape measure is in centimetres and not inches. Overall an absolute gem. As with all vintage items the best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions please ask. 99p start and no reserve- don't miss out!

Antique Tape Measure Metal Hat "Most Hats Cover The Head This Covers The Feet"
Antique Metal Hat Sewing Measuring Tape. Figural, Hard to Find Tape Measure. Hat says"Most Hats Cover the Head, This Covers The Feet" on the top. Looks like it may have been silver plated at one time, remnants of silver remain over the brass(I think) metal. There was a black painted band around the hat, this black paint has mostly worn off. The top of the hat is slightly indented on one side, not bad. Tape is worn, the end is missing and it does not retract. I pulled it out about 2 or 3 inches and it did not retract. It may be fixable, there are tabs on the bottom that would remove the bottom plate to access the tape but I have not attempted to open it. It displays nicely however and it's one of those that are a little hard to find. Starting bid reflects it's condition.

An almost identical tape measure can be seen in Nerylla Taunton's book Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries. On page 95(plate no 101) AGE The tape measure dates to the start of the 19th century. Circa 1820's. SIZE The tape measure. Measures 3.5cm(1¼" high and 2cm(¾" in diameter. CONDITION The tape measure is in good condition for considerable age. Although there is a little wear to the surface, plus the green silk ribbon is a little worn, and most of the marks have worn away. Please refer to the above photographs for details of condition. It has a chain on top to attach it to a chatelaine. The top has a little ball and turning that would wind the tape back in. The silk tape is inside but very fragile and I wasn't able to pull it out without possible damage. The silver has the English sterling hallmarks for Birmingham 1893 and the maker's mark for George Unite. The silver is in excellent condition with no dents or other damage.
