The diameter of the light is 10" Inside the base there are gears and what appears to be a motor. This light probably rotated electrically. I do not know if it still works. Glass is in good condition with about 3 tiny. Tiny chips on the ribs of the glass that are hardly noticeable. Also has a few tiny paint specks, age& dirt. No cracks though. The lantern has been painted red sometime in its life that’s faded, chipping. It comes with a chain& Original brass Miller Co. burner& hurricane ... moreglass that’s attached to bottom cover. The hurricane is in good condition with some tiny chipping along the bottom rim that goes into the burner. Also is soiled. The lantern’s body is in good-fair condition except looks like something heavy was put on its top& it caved in a little to the right. But does not affect the structural integrity, it just adds character! The top still opens fine. This would make a unique& super conversation piece. If only it could talk! Not sure but makers family member said it was zinc. he said his father manufactured these in chicago years ago and that this was the actual prototype. i have seen similar ones made from glass here on ebay and the family did own a glass factory. this one is all metal and no glass. i did not plug it in to test the lights.

The base has two mount holes that are about 5 inches on center of each other. The globe is glass and in good condition. The light weighs almost 6 pounds. You can access the bulb area by unscrewing the cage and then unscrewing the glass globe. The glass is undamaged. But could use some additional cleaning. This type of lantern was used to warn other vessels that they were anchored(not underway) at night. Based on the design. Materials used, and quality it was likely built by the Perkins Marine Lamp& Hardware Co. but the"PERKO" tag is not attached. Overall, it measures 10½” tall x 4½” wide, weighs 2 lbs, and is equipped with six brass guards to protect the 3½" x 4” 360 º clear dioptric(ribbed) clear lens. The lantern originally had a oil burning font which has been replaced with 110 volt lighting. It doesn't appear to have had a lot of sea duty and is in exceptional condition.This nautical artifact is a nice example of U.S. Maritime history.
