Wilcox Crittenden Battery-operated Marine Lantern
What a find! The paper insert to this marine lantern shows it was manufactured by the Wilcox-Crittenden Division of North& Judd Manufacturing Co. which was formerly the marine company Wilcox. Crittenden& Company, which had operated in Middletown since 1869. But by 1971. The Wilcox-Crittenden Division was a Gulf + Western Precision Engineering Company, so in all likelihood, this lantern was manufactured in the 1960s. This is a battery operated light. I am not sure of the metal- I would have guessed brass. But I saw a similar one referred to as copper, so it could be either. The top has two screws that hold it in place, and there are two nuts(shown in the photos) that I assume hold the leads in place on the battery(there is no battery) The switch does turn and clicks. Someone had taped a note on the outside of the lantern to alert to ... morethe instructions inside. And that has left some cellophane tape residue on the outside, which I was nervous about trying to clean with anything stronger than soap and water, so it still is sticky.

Antique Wilcox Crittenden Galvinzed Nautical Ship Lantern
Beautiful old antique maritime nautical ship lantern. Punch out design is indicative of Wilcox. Crittendon being the manufacturer. Glass has no cracks or chips. Bronze colored chimney is intact with no bends or and only very slight dings. Metal top ring is still in place. Most lanterns of this sort are missing the rings. Punch out design along the chimney is really cool. The zinc galvanizing, applied to protect the metal from rust has done it's jump. This lantern was likely subjected to sprays of salt water but shows very little sign of rusting. The only exception are the hinges on the bottom plate that were not galvanized but still work perfectly. There is no burner in this lantern but add one and it is ready to go. Up for bid is this ultra-RARE Wilcox Crittenden smoke bell that has NEVER seen use(NOS) It has the Wilcox Crittenden stamp. Intricate detailing on the arm, and flawless finish. The plating is chrome over nickel over brass. I found three of these in a box lot that was purchased and stored in our attic when WC went out of business. The recently re-discovered box lot has brass unfinished bells as well(with no arms) which is how I know the base is brass. This auction is for a SINGLE one of the 3 finished bells with arms. Vintage Brass Wilcox Crittenden Conn Ship Boat Light Lantern Lamp Red & Green
I do not know how old this lantern is. I think that it is old enough to be considered vintage or possibly antique. The oval plate on the back of it reads. Wilcox, Crittenden& Co. Inc. Middletown, Conn. U.S.A. It appears to be brass. Most of the photos make the metal look redder than it actually is. The photos where the metal looks like it has a very slight greenish tint are closer to representing the actual color. I see where the close-up of the hole where the burner goes makes the edges look like maybe the metal is not brass. In real life. That is not the case. The edges look like brass. A magnet will not stick to any of the lantern and I believe that it is solid brass. I have provided a photo of the bottom being held up to a light to show how it might look when illuminated. Not including the ring at the top. It measures about 9 ½ ... moreinches high. The ring at the top adds about 1 3/4 inches. It weighs about 2 pounds 3.5 ounces. The divider is removable. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. The burner is missing. Otherwise. It is generally in excellent condition. The tarnish is a little uneven and there is a little green oxidation on the back that you can see in a photo. I have provided a close-up of a bend in the edge of the hole for the burner. I do not know if it should be there or not. A close-up shows a small shallow depression just below the seam on the chimney. I do not know if it was made that way or not. Otherwise, are no dents in the metal or breaks or cracks in the glass. The inside and a little of the outside of the glass could use some cleaning. It looks like there is some soot on the inside of the top part. There is a little of some kind of dark hard gunk on the bottom that you can see in the photo of the bottom. Otherwise, it is fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of its general condition. I guarantee this lantern to be as described and represented by my photos. Up for auction is this antique large ship's lamp that was made by the Wilcox. Crittenden Company of Middleton, Conn. U.S.A. The lantern stands 17 1/2" high and is 9 3/4" in diameter. The lamp has a beautiful 360 degree grooved red globe that is in excellent condition after all these years showing on one very minor 1/4" flick. The burner insert is intact with no burner included. The rust on the cage and body of the lamp is all surface with no penetration inside the lamp. The red globe alone is worth the cost of the lamp. Weighs 15 1/2 lbs. before packaging. A great find for the collector of antique ship's lamps or for the buyer who wants a well-maintained Wicox Crittenden ship's lamp with beautiful red 360 degree grooved globe to feature in his or her home, office, or boat.

Antique Navigational Wilcox & Crittenden Port & Starboard Oil Lantern Pair
For Sale is a very nice set of 2 original oil burning nautical. Maritime Navigational Lanterns.The main housing is constructed of galvanized iron and the top cover is copper. However they have not been shined up. The original manufacturer was Wilcox& Crittenden& Co. There trademark was Capital W with a Capital C embossed on top of one another. The factory was in Middletown, CONN. USA. There is a photo of the Logo which appears to be embossed on brass, it is on the side, located on top of a metal sleeve, which is riveted on the lantern itself. This sleeve must have been used to slip over something to hold it secure to the ship. Both sleeves are intact and extremely secure. This embossing is very difficult to capture in a photo as the glare, and clarity of a photo so close. The lanterns stand just shy of 13" tall with the hanging ... moreloop standing up. They are made to fit in a corner. The sides measure 5" With the front curving around to meet the 2 sides. The glass itself is 5" tall and is almost 90 degrees. One lantern has fresnel green glass for the starboard, and the lantern with the fresnel red glass is for the port. The glass on both lanterns is in very good shape and have no cracks or chips. The metal round accesses to the oil chambers/wicks are both present and appear tight when screwed in. The wick chambers need cleaning, but seem to work, and even have wick left in them! We didn't attempt to light them, but knowing something about oil lanterns, don't see any reason they wouldn't work, however this isn't a guarantee. just presenting things honestly. The metal. Nowhere, on either lantern shows any sign of rust. However they are a brown color. Paint appears to be old, in some places chipping, or peeling off. There are the usual signs of true usage. Wear and tear. Overall appear to be in very good shape. I have not checked them for leakage, however on inspection, I don't see any reason they would leak. I have no idea how old they are. Here is a Classic WILCOX CRITTENDEN Port Sidelight Ship's Lantern with Kerosene Burner in good shape as pictured. An unusually well preserved example from this veteran New England marine industry manufacturer. Lantern could be redeployed for shipboard service or highlight a nautical decorum. Light with brass manufacturer plate marked: WILCOX CRITTENDEN& CO. INC. Middleton. Conn. USA Brass Kerosene Burner marked: P& A MFG CO. Waterbury. Conn. This is an"Hurricane Tested nauticle marine lantern by Wilcox Crittenden. It is galvanized with a brass burner in good condition. It has the red glass on one side and the green glass on the other. It is in good used condition. The burner looks like it was seldom used. Email questions.

Marine-Ship Oil Lamp/ Lantern- 12" tall x 6" Diameter- Inscribed on the bottom is Wilcox. Crittenden& Co. The elements have oxidized this light uniformly and evenly around to give it that perfect classic boat feel. The glass is yellowed and the chain still hangs from the loop. atop the welded o-ring. The oil holder still rests underneath the chamber. The wick needs replacement. The piece weighs 5 lbs. I purchased it at auction and am not in a position to test the lamp. Vintage Navigational Wilcox & Crittenden Port & Starboard Lantern Pair! RARE!
Welcome! Up for auction are a scarce PAIR of Wilcox and Crittenden Port and Starboard Lanterns. They are electrical. However I do not know if they work. They are very nice vintage shape. One flaw is that the starboard(green) lantern is missing it's closing pin and they could use a good cleaning. They stand approximately 8.5" TALL. I have no idea how to clean them so I will leave it up to the winning bidder. Please see ALL photos and feel free to ask questions. I believe they are glass lenses no cracks or chips in glass. These are BRONZE WILCOX CRITTENDEN Lights. No bulbs/wires.2- 1 BRONZE PERKO boat deck flag holder marked PERKO this is for a 1 inch flag pole is about 2 in. tall.3- Is a pair of new old stock PERKO Bronze 5 inch boat hinges chromed. There are 3 holes on 1 side 2 on the other no screws.4- Is a 9 1/2 inch tall I believe BRONZE Stern light. The light top is I believe plastic with a couple of crazing and paint spots. Very nice nautical piece. Blue and red lenses. There is a small marking at the tail end. Maybe a letter w, but unsure. Great patina. 8 inches long, 4 inches high, 4 inches wide at widest part. There's some green in brass, not much, just needs cleaning, the marking is a WC. Antique marine lantern electrified Wilcox & Crittenden Middletown CT, pair
These Wilcox& Crittenden Marine lanterns have been converted to electric. Both lights work. Both have base of original kerosene container and only needs small burner/ wick insert to convert it back to the original state. see photo. Contact me for any questions. Both measure about 12" tall without carrying handle. 5 1/2" wide. All patina untouched. I have not cleaned either. That is for buyer should they want to. 7/8" hole on right side of each; probably for connection to something. Both have slot on back for mounting.

This is a really cool vintage kerosene lantern. Green glass. I have taken many pictures which show it's condition. I know it is missing it's front latch. It closes securely but needs to be pried open. I have not attempted to clean or operate any part of this piece. I believe if you don't know what your doing to leave it to the experts. I got this at a flea market and a man was going crazy trying to buy it off of me so I believe it has some value. Please ask questions as I know NOTHING about it. Very Nice Wilcox& Crittenden Co. Ships Red"Port" Lantern. Middletown. Conn. USA on Brass Tag. Great Patina! This lantern has no Burner. But is in Excellent Condition. I'M not sure how the burner was installed. As this does not open from front or have clips like others I've seen. No Chips in glass that I can see, No holes in metal, Minor bend on left front corner.
