Vintage Nautical Maritime Combination Bow Lantern National Marine Lamp Company
Vintage National Marine Company combination bow lantern. We are very pleased to be able to offer for your consideration this wonderful piece of vintage maritime/nautical hardware. This early style kerosene burner combination navigation light with Fresnel lenses made by the National Marine Lamp Co. of New York. This lamp was made prior to 1912 since after that date National Maritime were marked with a patent date of 1912 or used the trade name“Triplex” This is an early example since the company was founded in 1906. This lamp is most suitable for someone seeking this shielded design of which only a few have survived. It has a great deal of character and a wonderfully warm patina. THE MAKER: National Marine Lamp Co. According to Anthony Hobson's Lanterns that Lit our World, Book 2 was started in 1906 operating from Pear St. in New York City. ... moreIt brought the burner shop Bristol Brass in Forestville, CT in 1911. National Marine bought from Bristol Brass, so similarities in the products are to be expected. Later National Marine absorbed a company called American Lamp and Brass, according to Hobson, but the"American" name died with the acquisition. Fredrick Perkins became president of National in 1913. Frederick and his son Louis left that company in 1916 and moved back to Brooklyn, New York where they started Perkins Marine Lamp Corporation so there is a lot of lamp history in this early lamp. This lantern measures approximately 11 inches wide. 10 inches tall, and 8 1/2 inches front to back. This lantern weighs approximately 4.75 pounds Condition- This awesome combination bow lantern is in very nice condition. It has developed a wonderful patina over the years, but could be polished to a high shine if desired. There are two issues to this piece, The first- is the starboard(red) Fresnel lens is heavily fractured. The second- is the kerosene fount/burner is missing from the lantern. This is a brass spot light off of a Columbia River Gillnet boat that is very unique as it is a vintage 12 volt light that is very rare. The lens says'Per Lux 200T' it belonged to a friend of mine who could not tell me the vintage only that it was"OLD" He has used it for many years long ago on his commercial fishing vessel. I do not know if the bulb lights or not as I don not have a 12v system to plug into. Either way it would make a great piece to add to your nautical collection. Vintage Maritime Ship Light Spot Lamp Antique Marine Flood Fixture Ship Military
This auction is for one vintage ship spot light. We bought this fixture from a local estate. It belonged to a man that served in the Navy as a dentist. This was part of a large lot of vintage dental equipment that we purchased. We were told that it was from one of the many military ships that he practiced on. The fixture does work. There is a separate bulb socket mounted on the plate that supports the round light diffuser that is not wired. But the bulb in the center of the diffuser works(see pictures) Cosmetically, there are scratches and plenty of wear. It was painted black at some point and that paint is flaking and there is surface rust present(see pictures) It has been in storage for quite a while and it needs to be cleaned. I am estimating that these probably date back to Late World War I or Early World War II and may well have been used on military vessels and/or Merchant marine vessels. They are Electric and have Rotating Shutters both on the body and in the bottoms of the lamps. In this way, the light could be closed off both from the sides and the bottoms as need be.kind of an early manual rheostat. These both Measure 8" Tall to the top of the Threaded, Screw-in Lid. The lid, itself measures 3 3/4" Diameter and has a 1 1/2" tall Wire Pass-through apparatus. To the top of the extended handle measures 12" The Base of the lantern measures 5 1/2" Diameter. Each of ... morethese Weigh a hefty 8 3/4 Lbs. Both lids have the Original Removable Light Bulb Sockets. Condition: Number THREE(see pics) is 100% Complete in that it has the little handle sticking off of the side of the rotating shutter for ease of opening and closing the shutter. Number ONE is missing that little handle. That's the only difference. The bottom slide on Number ONE is bent a bit but because it's made of very thin brass. It can EASSILY be pressed back into shape.I'll leave that up to the winning bidder along with re-wiring them. I removed the old cut-off wire stumps that were in the housings and needed to go but I'm not going to re-wire them.that's for you to do. Vintage Marine Ship Navigation Light Nautical Maritime Lantern Clear Boat WW II
My husband is organizing his shop and parting with quite a few items. Here is one of those items and his description of it: Maybe a good Christmas gift for the nautical collector in your life? Vintage marine ship’s iron navigation light. 180 degree clear glass Fresnel lens Navy? WWII? I picked this up at an estate sale and planned to use it as yard lighting. Turned out it did not fit the landscape plan. This is a large ships navigation light. Either for the stern(showing white two points abaft of the beam, starboard and port) or masthead light(forward, showing two points abaft of beam, both starboard and port) This shows a bit of light surface rust in spots. The result of years at sea. There is no internal mounting or wiring for a bulb, but that could be easily designed and installed. The gasket around the hinged lid is missing, but could ... morebe replaced with some type of weather-stripping. There are two small chips in the Fresnel lens, as shown in the photo. These should not affect the durability of the lens. You can see the imperfections in the lens from the glass casting process, as sign of its age. This stands 11 ½ inches tall. 8 inches in diameter(across) 9 inches across the top latch and hinge. The Fresnel lens is full width and 7 inches high. The base is round with“bayonet” mounting slots and is 5 ¾ inches outside and 5 3/16 inch inside diameter. The lid is held closed by a hinge on one side and thumb bolt on the other. The lid swings open freely. This is how I found it, I only cleaned the lens to confirm no other damage. I put a light inside it to show what it looks like illuminated for the pictures. The light does not come with this piece of marine hardware. As many ships navigation lights are made of brass or bronze. I can’t help to wonder if this was from a WWII ship, a time when these metals were in short supply and needed for munitions manufacture for the war effort.
