ANTIQUE NAUTICAL SHIPS LIGHT LAMP - SHIP SALVAGE- RARE
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE This light was purchased at an estate sale where most of my other auction listing came from.I was told by the folks selling that this was a ships lamp or light and would have been in a cabin onboard a ship. I cannot find any others to compare it to on ebay and there are no markings on the light other than on the socket inside the lamp and on the side as shown are the letters P&O. I am not sure if this was a gas type light or not. Although it has a socket where a bulb or something would have fit but on the side of the light it looks like a flint or sparker. The light will need the chrome trim cleaned.Sorry I am not much help here, please see the pictures and maybe someone out there can tell me more. The works are mounted on a nice piece of oak and there are exposed wires etc on the back. An antique nautical light acquired at an industrial salvage auction. There is no identifying information and I don't know what type of metal this is. It is covered with green verdigris except for the bottom edge which has been painted white. There is just a tiny bit of surface rust. Hardly worth mentioning, here and there, except for the cage which is completely rusted and broken. There is a porcelain bulb receptacle and the lens/shade is beautiful and made of thick ridged glass. It is about 7-1/2" high, with an opening inside diameter of 3-1/4" and a base diameter of about 5" It is very dirty but I am not doing any clean up as I don't want to disturb the patina or destroy the cage any further. You are bidding on the two vintage cast brass Ship's nautical passageway wall sconce lights shown in the above photos. These lights measure about 9 1/2 inches tall and not counting the wall mount they are about 4 inches wide. When mounted to the wall. They will extend out from the wall by about 7 inches. The wall mount has two mount holes and will require a mounting surface that is about 3 inches wide and about 1/2 inches tall. Originally the power source for these lights came ... morefrom two conduits that connected into the back side of the light. We installed two copper caps in the original conduit holes and added the 90 degree elbow and short brass pipe on the top. The elbow and the brass pipe we added allows all the wiring to be 100% hidden from sight. You can install a plate cover over your existing junction box and drill a hole that will allow the conduit pipe to enter your junction box. Next step is to screw the light to your cover plate and you are done. Also, the new pipe we installed can be cut flush with the wall mount, and the light can be installed right to the wall with no junction box. If you want the pipe cut, just tell us and will cut it flush before the lights are shipped. The globes are glass and in good condition. Each light weighs almost 3/12 pounds. You can access the bulb area by unscrewing the cage and then unscrewing the glass globe. The glass is undamaged, but could use some additional cleaning. The cage and the glass globe drops right out. The wall mount of the light is 4 1/2 inches wide and has four mount holes. When mounted to the wall, this light will extend out from the wall by about 8 1/2 inches. This light weighs about 5 pounds, and is 100% cast brass. You can use this light inside or outside, it will never rust! We have installed a new Westinghouse UL-Listed bulb fixture that is rated for any voltage under 250 volts. This light takes a normal screw in house bulb of 100 watts or less, or you can use the newer compact fluorescent bulbs or LED lights with an Edison base. To access the bulb.
