The lamp stays level at any angle. It also has wear to the finish with corrosion on several spots. So study the pictures carefully. Although most of the piece is made of brass I suspect the shade is a different metal, perhaps copper. I have not tried lighting the lamp(no oil) so I can't say how well it works. Maritime Navigational Lanterns.The main housing is constructed of galvanized iron and ... morethe top cover is copper. However they have not been shined up. The original manufacturer was Wilcox& Crittenden& Co. There trademark was Capital W with a Capital C embossed on top of one another. The factory was in Middletown, CONN. USA. There is a photo of the Logo which appears to be embossed on brass, it is on the side, located on top of a metal sleeve, which is riveted on the lantern itself. This sleeve must have been used to slip over something to hold it secure to the ship. Both sleeves are intact and extremely secure. This embossing is very difficult to capture in a photo as the glare, and clarity of a photo so close. The lanterns stand just shy of 13" tall with the hanging loop standing up. They are made to fit in a corner. The sides measure 5" With the front curving around to meet the 2 sides. The glass itself is 5" tall and is almost 90 degrees. One lantern has fresnel green glass for the starboard, and the lantern with the fresnel red glass is for the port. The glass on both lanterns is in very good shape and have no cracks or chips. The metal round accesses to the oil chambers/wicks are both present and appear tight when screwed in. The wick chambers need cleaning, but seem to work, and even have wick left in them! We didn't attempt to light them, but knowing something about oil lanterns, don't see any reason they wouldn't work, however this isn't a guarantee. just presenting things honestly. The metal. Nowhere, on either lantern shows any sign of rust. However they are a brown color. Paint appears to be old, in some places chipping, or peeling off. There are the usual signs of true usage. Wear and tear. Overall appear to be in very good shape. I have not checked them for leakage, however on inspection, I don't see any reason they would leak. I have no idea how old they are. Old Antique Brass Ships Kerosene Light. T his piece is in g ood condition for its age. Shows some signs of use though. T he very top of the lantern has a dent in it and the handle has a light bend i n it. There are a few small dings on the out side. The glass in good condition no chips or cracks as far as can be seen. T he burner is in good condition as well. We aren't sure if this is the original burner. The burner comes out of the bottom of the lantern to refill it. T he burner is also missing 1 of the 3 clips that holds it in. W e are not experts on sailing lanterns but this is how it came to us. I t also looks like it can be hang or hung by the brackets in the back as shown in the pictures. T his is a nice peace of old time sailing history. This is described as a"Perko De-Lite Combination Bow Light for boats under 26' Designed for boats going up and down a channel or river. The divider divides the red and green light and gives you a clue on which side you are passing on. Base is 5 1/2" by 5" 7" tall. Copper over metal. Original Condition- Red and Green Glass are good. Both doors open. The Green door latch is a little tight. But it does open. The red door latch is not original, and looks like it has been replaced. The kerosene can inside is empty. The Original wick is still included. The wicker turner still turns just fine. It won't raise the tope part of the wick. Up for sale today we are pleased to be offering an Antique Copper Riveted R.C. Murray& Co PORT Side Ship Maritime Lantern/Lamp with Clear Lens. This is in original un-restored condition. This is labeled on front: PORT LAMPADS No 552 RC Murray& Co Limited 37 Cavendish St Glasgow Etched on the glass on the front of the lens is MWGW Ltd. S.L.C. 118 There is some denting. There is oxidation causing some nice green patina mostly around the edges but there are no rust holes. There is a seam split near the bottom underneath the lens and you can see through to the inside as it is split across the front and open in some areas though not in others. There is noticeable dirt and some rust on the inside from years of storage. The lens has some chips but none of them go through. There are three which are noticeable and the rest of the lens is in ... moregood condition. It measures 21" high X 14" across X 14" deep. Diameter across the top is 5 3/8" approximately. This type of lantern was used to warn other vessels that they were anchored(not underway) at night. Based on the design. Materials used, and quality it was likely built by the Perkins Marine Lamp& Hardware Co. but the"PERKO" tag is not attached. Overall, it measures 10½” tall x 4½” wide, weighs 2 lbs, and is equipped with six brass guards to protect the 3½" x 4” 360 º clear dioptric(ribbed) clear lens. The lantern originally had a oil burning font which has been replaced with 110 volt lighting. It doesn't appear to have had a lot of sea duty and is in exceptional condition.This nautical artifact is a nice example of U.S. Maritime history. Vintage National Marine Company combination bow lantern. We are very pleased to be able to offer for your consideration this wonderful piece of vintage maritime/nautical hardware. This early style kerosene burner combination navigation light with Fresnel lenses made by the National Marine Lamp Co. of New York. This lamp was made prior to 1912 since after that date National Maritime were marked with a patent date of 1912 or used the trade name“Triplex” This is an early example since the company was founded in 1906. This lamp is most suitable for someone seeking this shielded design of which only a few have survived. It has a great deal of character and a wonderfully warm patina. THE MAKER: National Marine Lamp Co. According to Anthony Hobson's Lanterns that Lit our World, Book 2 was started in 1906 operating from Pear St. in New York City. ... moreIt brought the burner shop Bristol Brass in Forestville, CT in 1911. National Marine bought from Bristol Brass, so similarities in the products are to be expected. Later National Marine absorbed a company called American Lamp and Brass, according to Hobson, but the"American" name died with the acquisition. Fredrick Perkins became president of National in 1913. Frederick and his son Louis left that company in 1916 and moved back to Brooklyn, New York where they started Perkins Marine Lamp Corporation so there is a lot of lamp history in this early lamp.
