The lamp is being offered as found for parts or refurbish or keep as is. The lamp stands 8.7/8" tall as is. The soot catcher or chimney cap is missing. The copper housing shows a lot of aged patina. There is a crack in the copper in the pierced trim that goes around the chimney(see image 9) The bottom door also has a split or crack(see image 5) The curved, green glass is in excellent condition for its age, just a few fine scratches and some dirt. This is an antique globe lantern with globe red glass. Measures 15.75" tall x 9 1/2" across. The beautiful red glass that appears to be hand blown reads"Perkins 10" Frederick Perkins founded the Perkins Marine Lamp Company in the late 1800's in Brooklyn. Pair Vintage Copper Brass NEPTUNE NR Ship Lantern Lamp Nautical Maritime Cage NR
This auction is for a pair of vintage NEPTUNE NR copper and brass ship oil lamp lanterns. These lamps are in EXCELLENT estate found condition with a stunning and even patina. They are beautifully crafted from copper and brass and secured with a chain and hook in the front. These lanterns both have a badge at the top with the Neptune hallmark and NR. All of the glass is in beautiful condition(with the exception of some dust from being displayed) The globe inside is also in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The oil lamp inside is secured to a metal wire that stays in place by sliding down two opposing corners inside. And sits very securely inside with no wobble. I do not know the age of the lanterns, and have seen only a few similar, but most of then have all brass cages(die to the reddish tint I do believe this is mostly copper) ... moreor have been polished. None have been found also with this exact badge in the same place and this stunning copper patina with the reddish copper undertones that almost glow through. This has not been cleaned or polished, but I'm sure would polish up nicely if the buyer wishes to do so. Each lantern stands 15"high without handle, and 17 1/2" tall with handle, by approx 7"wide. It looks as though it was dropped on the side and sort of pushed in the side of the bottom. Not sure about the fixture inside, don't know if that is original. Made in England for the colony of Newfoundland and used I believe on the coastal boats that delivered goods and services around the coast of Newfoundland before the present roads were built. As you can see from the pictures this was a working light used to light the compass on the sailing boats. The brass is very worn. The handle which is brass with an insert are skewed and have been like this since I acquired them and I would guess its from heavy usage in all kinds of weather The lantern is all original with original doors and clasps and glass. It also has the original oil burner with ceramic ... morewick holder. The wick turner is very stiff and probably needs oil. The burner is signed and trademarked Barton's(England) 9 3/4” from base to top of handle the base is not square but rather a circle with a flat front measuring approx 2 7/8 from front to back and 3 2/8 from side to side. We are located in Canada midway between Ottawa and Kingston in Ontario just one hour from the New York border Round trip to Ogdensburg New York is 120 miles round trip by car. Please be patient. Lamp measures 8 1/4" in height. The bottom of lantern screws on but it is missing one of the tabs which can easily be fixed. If you wish to have this repaired before shipment, I can have that done by an excellent welder with over 42 years of experience. Some tarnish. Scuffs/etc and three brackets screwed into the base. A small ding or two that I wouldn't call dents, but you may. Approximately 10 inches across the bottom and 19 inches tall- 21 inches if you count the top handle- more if you count the bottom handle: I do not know if the oil burner works or ever was supposed to work. Offered for your bidding consideration is a vintage ships/boat lamp made by Kilborn Sauer. This lamp is located in Stockton. California. Which in tonage, is the 4th busiest port on the West Coast. In the early days of California Stockton was the hub. Many regarded Stockton as the in-land San Francisco. It was a rough place and full of vice. Many different forms of boats and ships, from sailing vessels to large paddlewheelers made their way to Stockton bringing people and goods. During WWII there were no less than two shipyards making destroyers, balloon barges and tugs for the U.S. Navy. Stockton was also home to the Stephen's Bros. Boat Builders from 1902 to 1987. This auction is for a Antique Neptune maritime Nautical lantern light with oil lamp.This is missing the panel of glass that is where the latch side is. The total height is 15" tall. The base is 6" tall. The sliding oil lamp section is unmarked- it does original to the lantern. It has the Neptune tag on the front. This is fresh from an old New England barn and will need cleaning- I have not attempted to clean this up at all. The glass globe has a flake of the bottom edge. It looks to be the original but I am not 100% sure of that.One of the cage bars is slightly indented. I think this is copper(magnet does not adhrere to it) Thank you. Antique 1869 Scottish Clipper Ship Brass Nautical Lantern Kerosene/Oil Lamp-1255-Dumbarton Scotland I just purchased this nice antique piece at a local estate auction. It is is very good condition considering its age! It has a very nice patina to it and all of the glass is still intact. It also has all of the reflector plates on the inside lid. This is important because there are reproductions out there and they do not have the reflector plates. Reproductions also don't have the lead flaps at the tops of the glass panels to hold the glass in. The other thing to look for is the data plate. Reproductions are usually thin and cheesy looking. This lamp has the nice thick data plate. I did my research before buying this at the auction and am 100% confident that this is an original. In fact there is still some soot in the corners of the reflector ... moreplates to indicate that it was used. Measurements are 24" tall and 14" across. This is a Vintage Lantern or Lamp. It is marked OAKFORD on the metal base. The glass is thick and red in color. It is marked 9S 3129 TYPE- O. It has a loop handle and wire cord(that has been cut from where it must have originally been attached to) It is heavy. I have seen something similar that were made for railroad trains and marine ships. Maybe this in another type used for either of those? I am not sure and you may know more than I about this item.
