Although most of the piece is made of brass I suspect the shade is a different metal, perhaps copper. I have not tried lighting the lamp(no oil) so I can't say how well it works. This was used in conjunction with another one to signal to other ship captains that the ship was not moving and not under active command of anyone. This has a great patina! This has what appears to be the original light socket and looks to be in good condition- but I'm no expert. There was once another tag welded to the top of this lantern. But probably removed when the current tag was placed. The glass lense is not cracked and the red insert looks good as well. Pair Vintage Copper Brass NEPTUNE NR Ship Lantern Lamp Nautical Maritime Cage NR
This auction is for a pair of vintage NEPTUNE NR copper and brass ship oil lamp lanterns. These lamps are in EXCELLENT estate found condition with a stunning and even patina. They are beautifully crafted from copper and brass and secured with a chain and hook in the front. These lanterns both have a badge at the top with the Neptune hallmark and NR. All of the glass is in beautiful condition(with the exception of some dust from being displayed) The globe inside is also in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The oil lamp inside is secured to a metal wire that stays in place by sliding down two opposing corners inside. And sits very securely inside with no wobble. I do not know the age of the lanterns, and have seen only a few similar, but most of then have all brass cages(die to the reddish tint I do believe this is mostly copper) ... moreor have been polished. None have been found also with this exact badge in the same place and this stunning copper patina with the reddish copper undertones that almost glow through. This has not been cleaned or polished, but I'm sure would polish up nicely if the buyer wishes to do so. Each lantern stands 15"high without handle, and 17 1/2" tall with handle, by approx 7"wide. Up for auction today is vintage nautical lantern. Different people call these types by such names as; buoy. Piling, master head, anchor, or dock lantern/ light. I am not sure of the proper name or use for this lantern. Can you inform me? It measures 17 ½” tall. The bottom is 8” in diameter, the top is 7 ½” in diameter, the lens is 4 ¾” tall(the exposed portion) and the lens is approx 5” in diameter. The lens is a dark ruby red and I see no cracks or chips. The body is galvanized metal with the rings. Latching hardware and the top ring of bottom portion being made of brass. There is a makers mark on the inside but some is missing and I cannot tell by what I can read who the maker is. Do you know? I assume that it was battery operated but there is no battery or wiring that is visible. I did not take the top portion apart and ... moredo not know if there is a bulb inside. We were told these came off of a 1940's sail ship. Perko Navigational lights in solid brass cases. These sadly have been painted and will need full restoration including wiring. The red globe has some chipping only visible from inside or the very bottom left corner from the outside. The green globe has no chipping. Both globes and cases have scratching and scuffing throughout from years of use and poor storage. Some paint smeers on the globes as shown. NO cracks. just chips. Huge vintage Pauluhn Nautical Pier lights. stamped- cat no. 1453 Great Nautical heavy duty design. Believed to be solid brass- Will not stick to a magnet. These are mounted to bases manufactured by- Kenilworth N.J. and read Suitable for wet locations. We have not attempted to clean or polish these at all. One of the red or off red glass globes has 6 chips on its fins which are hard to notice because of the large size. The other red globe which is a slightly different tone then the other has only one chip on a fin. Both globes have some minor flea biting on the fins and scratching/ wear throughout from age and outdoor use. The brass or metal has scratching scuffing etc. and one of them has a little chunk missing shown in photograph# 3. These will need a detailed cleaning and restoration of all wiring before they can be used. U.S. Navy World War II Masthead Brass Nautical Ship Light Must See!!
U. S. NAVY WW II MASTHEAD LIGHT This great light is waterproof and sported 6 x 15 volts for very bright lights. Why 6 you ask? Because the light was positioned on top of the mast. Making it hard to reach to replace a bulb during battle conditions, and if some burned out the others carried on! I have no idea how the bulbs were powered or how the wiring worked. You can take out the bulb sockets in the light and it has a pretty deep cavity to either place a battery or add your own lighting. I did not make any holes or try to adapt it for a more modern light. Rare Nautical Brass Lantern with Antler handle
I have a rare antique nautical lantern I'm told its from Chinese origin from whom I received it from. It is made of brass and can swivel( that keeps it level) from its antler handle. I don't see any markings on it but its obvious its an early lantern as the story goes the Chinese used it as a light on there fishing boats. The design allows one to carry/hold it or set it down as the antler having one spike on it and the flat of the lantern keeps it level. 1900s Great Britain Cargo Light- Vintage Maritime Nautical Brass Square Antique Lantern. This exquisite brass maritime cargo light is in good condition. The top opens and closes with a latch. The wick rolls up and down freely and appears to be about new. There is no oil or kerosene. This was part of my grandparent's estate. The glass panels are intact. Not broken or cracked; however, there are some blemishes: 1) Glass glove is cracked at base(see photo) 2) Top needs repair(see top view photo) 3) Lamp base is detached from base. Antique MARITIME NAUTICAL SHIP LANTERN Red Glass Copper & Brass
Up for bids is a great marine piece- an antique ship lantern. This nautical lantern is made of brass and copper metals and a beautiful piece of red onion glass. It has a sloped top which keeps water and rain from the inside of it. The red onion glass is encompassed by protective brass pieces which prevent it from being damaged when it swings. This lantern also has both the top pivoting brass hanger. AND the bottom one. I see very few of these lanterns that were made with these, and if so they no longer have the bottom one. At some point someone has removed the kerosene drum/holder and started the process of making this electrical. I have not attempted to complete this. It is fitted with a very simple bulb holder and a turning switch which still turns and clicks. This has in no means detracted from the beauty of this lantern and will make ... moreit simpler to electrify if someone chooses to do so. This lantern is in fantastic vintage condition. It has wear associated and common with its age but overall really nice! If someone chooses to polish this it will shine like new. The glass is in very good condition. It has some wear marks. Rough spots, or minor chipping on the rims/edges but no breaks. The wear is only from where it is fitted into the copper ends. These marks are not seen or noticable when the lantern is put together. The glass itself has some air bubbles but only visible upon close examination. The sloped top has several small dents in it. The two copper caps look very good and I do not see any dents or tears in them. The brass hangers and glass protectors have only age patina to them but otherwise perfect. The measurements of this lantern is 25 1/2" when hanging from the top of the hanging attachment to the tip of the bottom attachment. The glass is approx. 6 1/2" high by 8 1/2" around. I've taken this apart to show the insides of the pieces and the area where the electrical work was started. Also. When I ship it will come separated like this. Very, very simple to put together and take apart

It comes with about 3 feet of chain and wire. From the top chain loop to the bottom of the cage it measures 8 1/2 inches tall. The brass deflector cover we added is 8 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches tall. The glass globe is undamaged. The glass globe and the cage spin on and off as one piece and hold the deflector cover in place. This light has been totally rewired with all new UL-Listed parts rated for any voltage of 250 volts or less. The new bulb holder takes a normal screw in house bulb 50 watts or less.
