Brass Anchor Lantern Columbia River Lightship LV-88, Meteorite Marine Lamp Gift?
This"Meteorite" 3M" anchor light was removed from the US Coast Guard Lightship LV-88 by her last owner. The body of this lamp is a brass or copper alloy by the look of it and the original fresnel lens is present. There are galvanized iron wire hangers top and bottom to raise and secure the light on board ship. The original burner is present along with plenty of soot and in general it is just as it was when last used. Overall condition is good. No cracks or broken joints, but there are three fairly large dents and various small ones as typical of a lantern used on a ship for years. The lens is in very good condition with the exception of one area of chipping about 1.5" long as shown in the photo. The lens a good quality casting with a trademark of three"G"s within a pyramid. In my opinion this is typical of the ... morekind of wear you see on these lanterns, particularly anchor lights which were frequently hauled up and down for lighting and extinguishing. I have not asked. But I can probably get a letter or note from the man who owned the ship attesting to the provenance of this lantern. I do not promise that to the buyer as I have not asked, just occurred to me while writing this) but I think he would probably not mind doing so. In any even, I guarantee the provenance 100% This would make a wonderful gift for a collector of marine antiques or a former lightship crewman etc. A coppersmith or silversmith could remove the dents quite easily in my opinion. And of course polishing would an option. If the buyer wishes, I can arrange to have this soda-blasted at the buyer's cost. This removes all soot, dirt and oxidization and yet does not stipple or affect the surface of the metal or glass in any way. This treatment is an excellent preparation for display or further cleaning or polishing. This will be very carefully packed in box at least 16x16x24. Weighing at least 22lbs. Shipping is at cost. Vintage Alderson& Gyde Anchor Ship Light. This vintage Alderson& Gyde ship light stands about 19 inches tall with the bail down. 21 inches tall with the bail up and a full 8 inches in diameter. The oil lamp( missing) twists out at the bottom to service and fill the oil burner. These lamps were burned when a ship was anchored to inform all of the other vessels of its position or stationary. Old Perko lantern ready for display/use. This piece was wired as a light but I removed the wiring because it was faulty. It can very easily be rewired or I think a candle glowing inside would make this piece. Typical wear for this piece few dents and cracks in copper. RARE UNMODIFIED ANTIQUE BRASS SHIP ANCHOR LANTERN MARITIME NAUTICAL COPPER RIVET
Up for sale is RARE UNMODIFIED ANTIQUE BRASS SHIP ANCHOR LANTERN. This is such a great find because as just stated it is UNMODIFIED. Meaning it has NOT been converted over to electric. This lamp features a brass body with handmade copper rivets. All the hardware(rivets. Hinges, hasps, etc) appear to be hand made/forged. The ANCHOR brass label is applied on the top section which opens to expose the burner. The hook and chain to secure the hinged top are still intact. There is also a hinged top cap for flame inspection. When you open the top cap you will see that the chimney is triple insulated. It has a Frenzel type lens which appears to be old and original glass. The oil tank and burner assembly fits snug inside the lantern. Upon removal of the burner assembly from the oil tank. The wick is new and the inside of the oil tank has no residue ... moreor oil smell, suggesting it has to have been either cleaned very thoroughly(with several areas inside the tank unreachable) or possibly never used! Even though it seems to be the latter of the two options we still say possibly due to now documentation or provenance on the lantern beyond the current owner. This lack of evidence of use is consistent with inside of the metal chimney where no obvious traces of soot can be found. The base has aspiration vents all around it. The burner's wick knob has the words"SHERWOODS LTD. B'HAM MADE IN ENGLAND" on it. Making this from the very early 1900s at the latest from what we can find on the company. We have no reason to believe that this burner insert is anything but original to the lantern. Meaning we believe the lantern to be from the same time period. If anyone knows any different please share with us. In use this lamp would have been hauled up the ship's mast with halyards. To secure it as such. The lamp is equipped with substantial brass bail handles on the top and bottom. These are attached to heavy cast brass brackets riveted to the body of the lamp. This is a beautiful copper and brass kerosine anchor light with a nice aged patina. It is in is in excellent condition. There are no dents. Cracks or missing parts. All parts are made with heavy gauge copper and brass. The lens is thick heavy glass. You can see some small air bubbles inside the glass) This is truly a quality lamp that will last for many years. Vintage Copper Marine Light Lantern Made in Hong Kong Probably Anchor
I don't know anything about this lantern. I looked in my lantern book. And it looks right for an anchor light. The book says they were usually brass, but this one, where there is any finish left, looks much more like copper. The only marking is on the bottom and it reads Hong Kong. The glass is intact, and very thick and heavy. There is no burning unit inside, and it's not electrified, so I don't know how it was ever used to burn anything. There is a vent on the top that opens to the inside, that is missing its' top cover. There are no holes in the body of the lamp, but lots of rust. This is about 9 1/2" tall. It's neat, and I've not seen one like it, but I have no idea how it works. When you shake the lamp, you can hear rust flakes inside the sealed tank. Up for auction is AN ORIGINAL VERY OLD vintage solid galvanized metal nautical Ship Anchor Lantern. The classic anchor lamp used on sailing ships for hundreds of years. The anchor lamp is machined in pure heavy-gauge steel sheet. The Fresnel style lens is made to magnify the oil lamp light to be visible for 20 nautical miles. The tops to the main body and the vent top are both hinged. Thus the top swings open for access and ease of cleaning. This all metal(except the frilled vent top, which is galvanized copper) is galvanized and shows its age. THIS IS NOT A REPRODUCTION. The anchor lamp is named for its use. A 360o white light is required to be displayed at the highest point( the tallest mast) on all vessels at anchor or under way at night. For auction is an old oil lamp. Very unusual one, I think. I have not been able to figure out too much about it. It has some age though. The bottom is weighted, which I was thinking might indicate that it was to be used on a boat or ship. The only marking is on the knob and it has an R and V on each side of a anchor. I have had this a few years in my basement bar. But changing themes and it is time to let it go. I am not sure it is functional, but the way it is made I would expect that it might be. This candle, black out lantern is extremely rare, and almost never found for sale. It is from the late 1800's and is complete with it's original heavy glass globe, which is in perfect condition, showing no cracks or chips. The lantern likewise shows no signs of rust or cracks. Very nice lantern. Measures 19" tall from base to top and roughly 22" from base to top of handle when it is up. Thick glass on this one. It is a very nice vintage piece. I currently just have a light hanging in it(I will include this light) as not to mess with the integrity of the lantern. You could make the electrification permanent or bring it back to oil. I could find no defects, the electrical system is ok. the lantern makes a very nice light, see pictures. Antique Marine Anchor Lantern. The lantern's gray paint is old. It has a handle for carrying and hanging. Heavy wire guards protect its Frensel lens and 4 heavy rings are attached to the sides for mounting. A small brass plate on the front is marked ANCHOR PATT. 4893. The brass burner clamps into the bottom of the lantern and the burner knob is marked SHERWOODS BHAM. Kerosene. Good condition with some rust and paint loss. 11.5 inches with handle.

Here is a nice little Perko De-Lite Anchor Lantern. It stands 9" w/o the bale and 10.75" with the bale extended. It is for a Class 1& 2 boat. Which means it is good for a boat that is 16' to 40' It is solid brass and is complete with it's oil tank. Wick and glass globe. It has no dings or scratches. There is some Chinese writing on top and around the the piece that raises the wick. The Lantern in definitely older. It has typical use. There are no major dings or bings on it.
