So I will be listing several items ... morefor sale. Please check out my other items. This is an extremely rare antique schoolhouse, or possibly a university, desk. It is hand hewn solid wood, very thick for todays standards. It was manufactured by the George M. Hammer Co. Ltd. in Strand London in the late 1800's or possibly the VERY early 1900's. They were builders of church and school furniture in England. It still has the brass ink well cover as shown in the pictures and also still has the porcelain casters. The desk part slide in and out for comfort and fit. The bas is 34" long, 11" wide in the front and 14" wide in the back. The desk section measures 22" long, 19" wide, 10" tall in the back and 6" tall in the front. It is 38" tall in the back. It is missing one small wood brace as shown in the pictures. I have had a lot of school desks over the years but this is by far the most unique and rare I have ever found.

Vintage Antique Old Wooden Desk One Room School House Tennessee Lovely Patina
Purchased many years ago by the current owner for a larger home than the bungalow* she now resides in. The owner of the store where she purchased it from had tagged it as about 100 years old from a one room schoolhouse in Tennessee. The photos say it best. I have included with and without flash photos so you can see its the hues in different lights. The patina is eye candy, and the strong grain stands smooth and proud with the natural sheen from decades of books sliding back and forth across it. The desk stands tight and level and is in superb original condition with all the original wood pieces, screws and hardware, including the desk latch/lock-simple yet efficient. The only non-original item is a small well done wood brace that you have to stick your head inside the desk and look up to find. The brace has brass round-head screws which ... moresuggests a post-war repair since flat-head iron screws are more common from pre-war construction and this type of fastening is what is used in the desk. It is approximately 21" inches wide and 20" deep, it stands 27" tall in front and 31" tall in back, the bottom shelf is 8" x 21" the inside of the desk storage area is 19" wide and 17" front to back and varies from 4" to 6" deep. I have looked at maybe 500 + photos of old school desks and have found only one of similar construction(and it is from England and is listed only as"Old School Desk" for $800 USD) This gives some credence to the one-room schoolhouse the dealer claimed. Probably built by a local carpenter out of Tennessee Pine or similar local wood just for this single classroom. I cannot guarantee any special providence or exact age for this item but can only tell you what the dealer told my client. How it was tagged and what I have found out in my research. So when bidding, bid because you love the look of the item and wish it to grace your abode. Great for storing art supplies, journals, books or writing paraphernalia inside. School Desk, Two Seater from One Room School House
I've done this for 30 plus years and have never run across a school desk like this before. It's a two seater. Or possibly three small children, more than likely from a one room schoolhouse around the turn-of-the-century. I think the wood is Ash or Chestnut, but not positive. The top and the seat is pegged to the base. There are screws holding the seat to the back support. It is absolutely wonderful. It measures 47" long by 37" wide and 38" tall. The cast iron sides have been done in an ornate Victorian style and say"PAT.AUG 7 1891, JAN 8 1894 BUFFALO NEW YORK" The feet have holes in them for anchoring the desk to a wood floor. The desk is all original but appears to have been cleaned up or refinished. Desk still has pencil scratches and marks from when it was actually used in a school house. The front fold up. Nice 1900's desk and folding bench all in great shape only thing is the seat the back had small line on the wood. Can be seen in pics. It can be a great bench decor the great part is that you don't have to do anything to it. The legs are solid metal. Local Pick up I'm indianapolis about 15 min from down town. Antique Vintage Cast Iron Wood School House Desk Primitive Child Desk 1931-1956
Vintage/ Antique School Desk Made of iron and wood. Features manufacture's make embossed into the iron that features an image of the Company logo and reads American Seating Company Grand Rapids Mich. This charming piece of Americana also has a pencil holder built into the top of the desk and an area for storage in the front. Based on the history of The American Seating Company. Originally part of the Grand Rapids School Furniture Company founded in 1886, and the maker's mark, the piece can be reasonably dated. In 1906 the company became known as the American Seating Company and in 1931 its' offices moved from Chicago,IL to Grand Rapids, MI. In 1930, the company began to brand wooden desks with the“lamp of knowledge” logo which continued until 1956 when the logo was replaced. Based on this historical data the chair was manufactured ... morebetween 1931 and 1956 as it features the"lamp of knowledge" logo. Dimensions: Approximately 17.5" wide. 17" deep(front to back/ deepest point at bottom of desk) and 25" tall. Great collectible. Perfect for child's room or paired with a doll collection. Early 1900's Children's School House Desk Marked with Grand Rapid Michigan. This is a#5 school house desk. It stands 23" high at the desk side and 12" high at the bench side. Both the bench and desk are 19" long and 12" deep. Overall dimensions are 19" wide x 24" long x 23" high Bench folds up. There is also a shelf under the desk. Overall the condition is excellent. There are some child's carvings into the top of the desk but it came from a child's play room so it was an in use item. One corner of the bench is chipped as seen in the photos. This is a pair of really nice desks that came from the original McGuffey school in Oxford Ohio. Famous for the McGuffey readers. McGuffey taught in Oxford Ohio and was a revolutionary educator with new ideas on how to teach children. Desk are made by landslow fowler company out of Rochester NY from the early 1900s. Smaller is probably for a 1st or 2nd grader. Larger one for a 3rd or 4th grader. Approximately 100 years old. Adjustable tilt top. Nice drawer. Very sturdy. Great aesthetics. Antique woodenschool desk from Walsh cty ND. 1 room school house. needs TLC
this is in need of some repair it is old and the windows were out of the school so it seen the weather it is still a nice piece for someone that works with wood. it looks like it had the shelf under the seat. The cross members are all missing but one. the wood on the seat and the writing surface look in very good shape i see no cracks, if a dimension is critical ask me to double check i can make a mistake i have made one so please ask. if you do not ask i have plus or minus inches 3.5" thanks for understanding. if you need ask a question and i will do my best to answer it.
