It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. The dimensions are 40 1/2” tall its tallest point. 33 1/2“ wide at its widest point at the base, and 19” deep when closed,and 34“ deep when opened. Local pickup only.

1890-1920 ART NOUVEAU DROP FRONT DESK/ SECRETARY + BENCH This turn-of-the-century mahogany desk has been finished in a durable satin oil-base paint to bring a contemporary feel to a classic antique style. It features plenty of storage space within a compact design. Opened or closed. This desk makes a statement in elegant simplicity. There is a slight crack in the wood at the bottom left of the door. Only on the outside. it does not go through, nor does it affect the beauty or functionality of the piece. It is a minor flaw and very common in a 90+ year old antique. As you will see from the image above(as in real life) It is not noticeable until you are specifically looking for it, or until your face is right up to it. As in the image below. The height of this desk is 50.5 inches. But don't worry about transporting it. It breaks down into ... moretwo sections. The top section sits down snuggly into the bottom section. So there is no risk of it tipping off. It needs to be lifted straight up out of the base to disassemble it. The depth of the desk is 15 inches. So this could even be used in a smaller room, giving you the advantage of an all-inclusive secretary without the large footprint. The width is 31 inches. This is a perfect size! You can see from the back how the top section sits down into the base with a protective moulding around the front and sides. Even with the bench. The footprint of this desk is minimal. and how gorgeous is its profile? And. By the way, the moldings and applied carvings are all intact throughout. Here's a picture with the unit broken down. When you look at the base. You can see how deep the moulding is that wraps tightly around the upper section, but you can't see the groove inside the moulding that drops the upper section even further down into the base. If you look at the very bottom of the upper section, you will see the extension of the sides that fit into that groove. Beauty. Simplicity, functionality all in one small secretary! ANTIQUE Larkin Mahogany/Cherry Drop Front Secretary/ Desk,Bookcase,Cabinet
This is a beautiful antique drop front desk. It is made in the Larkin style. I have not seen any marks that indicate a maker. The piece is dark wood and may be either mahogany or cherry. I am not a wood expert. There is a mirror and two candle holder/sconce shelves for detail, there are also shelves for books. The piece has some wear and tear on the wood, see pics, but nothing huge. It needs a good cleaning! There is no lock detail on the front and no locking mechanism. The last picture shows a brass detail piece that can be added if you like. It will be included with the item.
