The writing surface is inlaid with rich brown leather bordered by gold tooling-which was replaced during a recent restoration that also included a new coat of hand-rubbed wax. In total, this desk features three drawers and two cabinets on one side, with seven standard drawers and a file drawer on the other. Conveniently this desk disassembles quite easily: like all pedestal desks, the top simply rests securely on the two pedestals. Late 1800. Early 1900's Chippendale style Mahogany Partners Desk. The Legs are curved like a Chippendale style with a Ball and Clawfeet. This desk has been in my family since 1911, it is probably earlier. This desk has drawers on each side, however only one side opens. There is some damage on the sides and legs to the desk, please see pictures. The major flaw is a split piece holding the left rear leg of the desk, this has been poorly repaired, but all the original wood is still there for future repair. Please see photo. This desk glows when polished, it is a beautiful piece. The drawers lock and comes with the keys. The style has become more popular as time has gone by. While having been made around 1940. This partners desk was probably not used by the military, but was made in that style. Both sides are identical and consist of a large cabinet in the left pedestal and a bank of regular drawers in the right. The middle drawers have locks but no key remains. The top is a lovely black leather that appears new. This leather has a lovely gold tooling around the outside. Leather makes a fabulous writing and work surface and has an incredibly handsome look. Mahogany is the wood used to construct the desk and it has a lovely grain and color. This antique campaign desk does separate into the top and two pedestals for easier moving.
