It is a lovely little piece measuring 39" tall. 27" across and 15" deep. It is in nice condition given it's age, but it does have a small chip out of the front right corner post. 1920-30 Oak Drop Front Desk Original Dark Oak Finish One Drawer Below Nice
Here is a vintage 1920-30s oak drop front writing desk. It has the original dark oak finish as shown. The desk is 40 inches high by 29.5 inches wide and 16 inches deep. The desk has the original pigeon holes in the interior with one divider missing. The interior does show an ink stain on the right hand side. There is a small area of wear on the left side under the long drawer. The desk has its original key which does work but the lock does not stay in the locked position. The lock may need to be cleaned. THE BACKPLATE ON ONE OF THE SMALL DRAWER KNOBS INSIDE THE DESK IS MISSING. THE 6TH PHOTO SHOWS A CLOSEUP OF THE OLD DROP PULLS THAT ARE ON ALL OF THE 3 LOWER DRAWERS(although it is upside down) THE ENGLISH WERE AMONG THE FIRST TO USE NATURAL PLANT PIGMENTS IN STAINING WOOD FURNITURE AND THIS DESK IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF THAT PROCESS. Here is a fabulous and rare find these days. a gorgeous Limbert's quartersawn oak desk. Made in the United States in the early 1900's and bearing the Limbert's Furniture burned in the wood mark as shown. According to Wikipedia's information on Limbert, Charles P. Limbert(1854-1923) was founder of the Limbert Furniture Company and a contemporary of Gustav Stickley. Although the two most likely didn't know each other. Stickley was more of a self-promoter while Limbert was content to let his furniture speak for itself) Limbert's quartersawn oak furniture is characteristic of the Arts and Crafts movement in America; some of it looks similar to that produced by other makers of the day. Many of the company's better pieces. However, are pleasingly unique, are solidly constructed and stand on their own merits. As far as ... morebiographical information they state Charles Limbert was born in Linesville. Pennsylvania in either 1854 or 1856. The son of cabinetmaker and furniture dealer Levi H. Limbert. After moving with his family in 1866 to Akron, Ohio, he later learned the furniture business in the 1870s at his father's store. As a young man in Akron the first business he tried on his own was in the carriage trade. After leaving his adopted hometown in the mid-1880s he moved west and began his career as a furniture salesman. Charles started making chairs in Grand Rapids. Michigan while continuing to distribute furniture made by others. Limbert established a factory in 1902 where he designed and built what he termed"Dutch Arts and Crafts"style furniture and light fixtures. In 1906 he opened a factory in Holland. Michigan. Which he regarded as a more healthy environment for his workers. Limbert continued to manage his company until 1922, when poor health prompted him to sell his share in the company. Antique Slant Drop Front Oak Secretary Desk - Lionhead
I am not an expert but an antique furniture appraiser looked at this piece recently and stated this is a unique desk that he's never seen one quite like it. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. It's very solid& quite attractive despite is custom huumm paint job. It looks like pretty OAK underneath. Just needs some elbow grease to bring it back out. It needs work but it's not all hammered up, doesn't look like it's been abused(except for paint) I have no keys to it, unknown if locks work properly. This desk dates back to the early 1900's. It measures 32-1/2" wide x 39" tall(to the flat top of the desk) x 15" deep. It has a little paint splatter on the top and one side but you should be able to get it off. It does not have a key. Here is a really fantastic deal on a terrific antique quartersawn oak bureau bookcase with drop front desk or secretary as they are commonly referred to here in the US. This lovely desk with bookcase above and drawers below was recently imported from the UK through Edinburgh. Scotland and is constructed of beautiful quartersawn oak, really nice metal pulls and leaded glass doors protecting the bookcase. This delightful piece stands 72 inches tall and measures 31 inches wide by 18 inches deep. Front to back. It travels safely in two pieces, the top 27 3/4 inches wide by 7 3/4 inches deep front to back and 32 1/2 inches tall. The dimensions within the top cabinet are 31 inches tall by 27 1/2 inches wide by 6 inches front to back and has two adjustable shelves as well as the base of the cabinet to serve as three shelves within the cabinet. The ... morebureau base with desk stands 39 1/2 inches tall and is 31 inches wide by 18 inches front to back, and 28 inches deep when the drop front desk is open.
