For your consideration is a Mission Style mahogany slant front writing desk made by Novelty Wood Works(1897-1912) in Union City. PA. The desk is 30.25" wide, 37" high, and 14.5" deep(from drawer) When opened, the writing surface is 27.5" from the floor. It features original brass hardware, a single pull-out drawer beneath the desk, and six compartments inside to store letter, bills, etc. I estimate the age of this piece to be approximately 110 years. It is in good to very good condition as indicated in the Condition description. There are some light scratches and cup marks as pictured. Here is an antique writing desk with the flip up top. The desk pulls out when the top is open. This can be seen in image 5. It is in overall good shape with great patina. The desk can be used as is. Restored or as a garden table. This would also make a great computer desk. The photos show some of the areas that have scratches, scuffs or cracks. Images 5-7 show the measurements. Image 3 shows some damage to the top when the desk is closed. Image 4 shows that the leg has a piece missing. This is available for local pick-up only. Made of either solid maple or walnut with matching veneers. There are noticeable surface scratches and some spots where the varnish has chipped way, however they can be easily restored with a new varnish coat. Vintage Lift Top Writing Desk - Pull-Out Writing Surface
This flip top writing desk is 35" wide. 19" deep and 32" tall. The top flips up and the front flap on the flip top can either stand up or lay down. The writing desk has a sheet of glass covering the writing area- but the writing surface pulls out to make the writing area larger. When the writing area is pushed in(glass covered area) the surface is 24" wide by 9 1/2" deep; however the writing surface can pull out an additional 6 inches to expand the writing area to 24" wide by 15 1/2" deep. There is a thick panel of glass that protects the writing surface when it is 9 1/2" deep and it can be removed when the desk surface is expanded to 15" When the flip top is closed it looks like a table. French Louis XVI Style Fruitwood Leather Top Antique Writing Desk Second Quarter of the 20th Century. Stamped"Made in France" Item# 130006OLV15 This is an outstanding find for any serious interior designer or anyone passionate about Neoclassical forms true to the spirit of Louis XVI furnishings. A French Louis XVI Style Antique Writing Desk executed in solid fruitwood. Presumably Cherry, this piece was crafted during the first half of the 20th Century- this date could probably be further isolated with research into the Circular Crowned Fire Breathing Dragon brand impressed beneath the desk beside the"Made in France" brand. The broad leather top is tooled along the edges. The surface remaining in overall quite good condition despite years of use; it is framed in fruitwood edged by brass tubing, the corners of the frame ... morepinned with exposed pegs. The top projects over three drawers, these hand dovetailed with golden oak secondary woods in the sides, back and machine-chamfered bottom. The original key is retained, working the lock on the middle drawer quite effectively. Each corner of the frame is embellished with gilded ribbed rectangular panels over the legs. The desk rests over turned and tapered legs beneath round brass rings and terminating in capped brass ball feet. It is sturdy and stable. An absolutely perfect piece for regular functional use in a home office or home library. The fruitwood glows throughout with a deep well oxidized patina beneath a polished finish. Measurements: 51 1/8" wide x 27 1/2" deep x 30" high to top; 24" high to underside of apron where the chair would pull under Condition Report: Brass rim with some dents. Vintage Fold-top Writing Desk Spinet
Folding/ Portable/ Collapseable Desk Like a Spinet Desk but no big drawer along the bottom. It measures 34" long by 20" wide By 34.5" tall. Closed. The legs can be stored inside it measures 8" tall. Weight 49 pounds. There are two drawers and three little pigeon holes at the back. Recent find from an antique dealers estate sale. Not sure of age. It is old and a bit fragile. Was missing knob on front. I just added a brass knob to make it easier to lock. Also. Missing key to lock, but I ground a key to fit and it works. Shows wear from use. A few chips in veneer. Some letters in red on top see pic 10. Big chip missing in bottom of one leg. There are some cracks in places on legs from drying. Pics show condition. 373" on bottom. Thanks for Looking! This desk measures: Top glass front section: 26" tall x 10" deep x 31 wide. distance between the shelves is: 8" They are equal and are not movable. There are 2 shelves making 3 spaces for books, display items etc. The glass doors swing easily and there is a lock that works with a key( included) The left side has an inside clasp under the top shelf to keep it closed. There were at one time X shaped minions on the glass that still have a faint impression in the glass. May be removable-I never tried. Bottom Desk/drawer section: 39 1/2" tall x 16" deep x 31 1/2" wide. The drawers on the inside are 27 1/2" wide x 6 1/4" high x 13 1/4" deep. Each of the 3 drawers are the same size and all slide freely. Desk section: The swing down desk writing surface that closes to a slant measures 11 1/2" deep ... morex 30 1/4" wide. The hinges are sturdy. There are no underneath bars or braces. The remaining desk surface that is existing that goes in from the fold down section measures 15" deep. There are 2 small drawers. One on either side, the drawer inside dimensions are: 6" x 5 3/4" x 1 1/2" deep They both slide freely. Above each drawer are 2 upright letter sections each measuring 7" deep x 3" wide x 4 3/4" high. There is a flat section between the small drawer/letter sections that measures 9" x 7" deep x 9" wide. There is space on either side of this cubby section for taller ledgers, books etc. that measures 2 1/4" wide x 10" tall x 7" deep. This is a very practical and well laid out inside section for various storage. Still useful today for lots of desk type items. Total height is: 65 3/4" The pieces are connected and not easily separated. The desk overall is in very good condition. Even though it is quiet simple in design. The outside is finished off nicely. Primitive Antique Writing Desk with Lift Top
Up for auction is a great old piece of workmanship in a primitive writing desk with lift top. I believe it to be late 1800's to early 1900's. Showing square nails, just a great piece. I have attempted to show all sides, top and bottom of desk with the bottom showing some shrinkage in the wood to open a crack, just adds to the appeal. Measurements are as follows: front to back 17" across 15 1/4" and a little over 11" high, a nice portable size. Any questions, please ask. The selection of mahogany used is quite attractive. ... moreThe wood has a lovely color and patina. A key is present and all but the upper right hand drawer lock. That lock is broken. The drawer pulls are solid brass. The type of handle is a swan neck pull. A writing surface of fine, red leather adorns the top. The care and attention to detail that went into the construction of this antique writing desk is evident through the hand cut dovetails. Dovetails are the strongest way to join a drawer. They take careful precision to do properly. But offer the greatest longevity to the piece. You will also notice the back is fully finished which allows you to place the desk in the middle of a room if your layout requires that at any time. Overall this desk is in very good condition. It is strong. Sturdy, and will last for many years. The leather has sustained the most wear of the desk. You will notice in the accompanying pictures that the right side of the leather has a number of parallel lines which are hard to see unless you are looking closely. This beautiful Desk has 3 dove-tailed drawers on the front that are made out of solid wood on the inside, and they are working properly. This classic Desk has interesting Brass-finish handles on the drawers, see pictures, and it has a charming 3-part leather top. This Desk is finished all the way around so it can be displayed in the center of the room. See pictures, and it comes with a tufted Chair with curved legs and a Brass/Brass-finish accent handle on the top. The Chair has some wearing on the fabric. A high-quality American furniture manufacturer. The condition of this Desk with Chair is secure and sturdy with some minor scratches/dents here and there proper to its age and as part of its wear and tear. There some minor spots on the finish. And there are some aging imperfections on the top and on the sides of the Desk, see pictures. There are some minor ging imperfections on the top of the Desk.
