The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable ... moreshelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper cabinet. The drawer pulls are loose as well and one of the escutcheons looks like it has been reattached. There is a piece of wood missing from the molding below the desk top as well. See picture) There is also significant wear to the felted writing surface. No other significant damage or repairs. The entire desk stands about 88" 7'4" tall. Secretary Desk circa 1900 with Gallery. Mirror& Marquetry. This absolute jewel of a secretary desk was beautifully crafted about 1900 with inlaid marquetry of precious woods and mother of pearl. Original bronze pulls. The shaped and beveled mirror plus columns with Corinthian capitals are exquisite on this American made furniture. Fine detailing and the concave front are delightful. The rich deep finish is in extremely fine condition on curly birch with a mahogany stain and a few shrinkage separations from age for antique character. Interiors are genuine birdseye or curly maple. The oak wood graining is just beautiful and they call this quarter sawn oak or Tiger Oak. This is a higher end piece of furniture because it took a lot of wood to create this piece of furniture! Antique Secretary Desk/bookcase Liberty Co Ltd. Circa 1900
Up for sale is an antique Secretary/bookcase made by Liberty Co. Ltd of the U.K. All appears original with a possible exception of the hinges on the drop-down desk. The drawer pulls are hammered copper. Overall it is 36 inches wide. And about 51 1/2 inches tall. The secretary desk area is about 26 1/4 inches wide. The fold down desk supports are 10 inches in length and the drawer is about 21 by 13 inches. The name plate for Liberty Co Ltd is on the inside of the drawer at the front. I have no keys for the locks. This was made about 1900 and the style is late nouveau or early arts and crafts. All is in excellent condition. Please view the pictues.
