For your consideration, this fabulous and very impressive Tall Victorian Rococo Flame Mahogany Secretary with Arched Bookcase ... moreTop(Circa: 1860) This gorgeous two-piece Secretary weighs approximately 170 pounds and measures 102 ½” in total height(from the floor to the arched top of the crown) 44 ¼” in width, and 20 ½” in depth. The three adjustable shelves each measure 9” in depth and 41 ¼” in width. This is truly one of the most beautiful Victorian Secretaries of its kind that we have had the privilege to offer. You will notice that there is some faint writing on the back of the piece(see the e-Bay photo) that probably indicates either the maker or the person for whom the piece was made. From what we can see it is signed M. Hall, Hannibal, MO. The details on this Secretary are absolutely wonderful! This beautiful Secretary is constructed of mahogany. And flame mahogany over a secondary wood and the details are exquisite! The bookcase top is graced with a beautiful open arch top with a lovely center foliate carved pedestal that is surrounded on each side with elegant applied scroll land leaf adornments. The bookcase top doors have wavy glass that appears to be original. And three adjustable shelves. The doors have arched tops with picture frame moulding around the original glass and carved foliate escutcheons. The right door has an intact lock and a decorative(non-working) key is included to assist in opening the doors. Also. You will note that there is a small, insignificant scratch on glass in the lower corner of the right door which in no way impacts the beauty or integrity of the original wavy glass. The bottom slant front desk door of the Secretary is graced with luscious flame mahogany veneer, has a fancy brass key escutcheon along with an intact lock with working key. ANTIQUE THREE - PIECE CHINESE PEDESTAL DESK ca 1900
This desk was made in three pieces. There are two side pieces. One of which has three drawers and the other of which has a shelf behind a door. The top piece contains three drawers and a pull-out shelf on the right side. I do not know the authenticity of this desk, but it appears to date back to the early Qing dynasty era. It is coated with black lacquer and gold paint, with stone or mother of pearl onlays. It is decorated in this fashion on all four sides. The lacquer is cracked and worn away in several places. From the research I have it does appear to be an authentic original. If there is interest, I will obtain more detailed photographs of the onlays. Beautiful vintage roll top desk. Ca. 1910. Desk is solid oak with oak veneer. Some pieces of the veneer have chipped off. We've collected most of them and they can be easily reapplied. Overall, the desk is in very good condition, although there are some scratches on the front and sides. There were no keys when we acquired it. But we're selling it because we just can't make it work in our new place. Note that the center slot under the roll top is perfect for storing a laptop computer. LA Historic 1940'S Oak Desk Antique Wood Large Heavy Vintage CA Pick Up
Our Dad is sadly downsizing to a retirement home and must give up this amazing. Historic, behemoth of a desk! Sit down at this amazing piece of LA past, and know you're a BOSS. I rescued it from the mezzanine office of an old warehouse in Silver Lake before it was torn down due to gentrification. I managed to save several and this was the best example, so it came to live with my family- now perhaps yours for it's next chapter. Feet are still wearing the original brass caps, and the center drawer still features the original key! I found this taped inside many years ago, shockingly, but this desk has been used with love. The body of the desk consists of quartersawn oak in a rich medium dark finish, lots of gorgeous reddish browns and many thick, mackerel highlights as well as smaller scaled striping. The top was extremely damaged linoleum ... morewhen found, and we stripped and sanded the top underneath. You could certainly add new old stock linoleum if preferred, but it looks lovely as is. This beautiful relic of a time gone by is actually finished all the way around so you can float it in the middle of the room if wanted. Of note are two stickers denoting it's storied past- this desk once served as a desk at LAPD headquarters and also in the Community Development Department at the City of Los Angeles. The only apology is the pull out writing boards are missing. The desk is a fairly standard size and could be cannibalized from the others that haven't survived in such good shape. Or easily cut out and stained or painted to suit. Dad reports he never missed them on account of the size of the desk, he always had plenty of room to write and do his dictation from, he was a small town pediatrician for most of his life. There are five deep and spacious drawers, one is a false fronted double, in addition to the central pen drawer, with the original insert to separate small things- paperclips, erasers, truth serum vials etc. Please come give this desk a new life!
