Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around ... more60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. This doesn't mean that you can't close them or lock them when closed, but it is something I should point out. Above the bookcase is decorative trim with a twin swan&#

Maddox Reproductions Slant Front Desk
This Fine Desk was made by. Maddox Colonial Reproductions" of Jamestown, NY, from Mahogany Wood. It measures at 33.5" W x 16.5" D x 41.5" H and is in good condition. The drop down desk surface has sliding desk supports, and it has well outfitted interior compartments. One of my favorite elements of this piece are the hidden compartments, common to these desks. A little history. Maddox began the Maddox table company in 1898. In the early years, Maddox made a variety of tables. Eventually, Maddox became known for the colonial reproductions that were featured in their line as they expanded from tables to include other furniture. This desk is part of its colonial reproduction line. It has the original metal stamped crest on the rear of the desk. Happy bidding!

Antique Walnut Slant Front Drop Lid Secretary Desk with Bookcase Top
There is no reserve on this really beautiful antique walnut slant front drop lid secretary desk with bookcase top. The bookcase top has 2 shelves above the base of it. The desk is 80 inches tall. 39 inches wide, 17 inches deep. There are 2 dove tailed drawers at the writing surface level, one on either side of the 8 divided storage sections. The writing surface is in good condition. When the drop is open it is supported by 2 wooden boards that pull out under it. When the drop is closed, you can access 1 long dove tailed drawer and below the drawer 2 doors open to a base with 1 shelf in it. All the brass hardware is original and in good condition except a repaired handle on the left side of the bottom of the base. Excellent condition. Buyer must arrange and pay for pick up and delivery.

Antique Slant Drop Front Oak Secretary Desk - Lionhead
I am not an expert but an antique furniture appraiser looked at this piece recently and stated this is a unique desk that he's never seen one quite like it. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. I took this apart, striped part of the old finish off, re-assembled, all joints have been newly glued with nails or screws. Antique Mahogany SLANT DROPLEAF SECRETARY DESK Serpentine Front Ball & Claw Feet
ANTIQUE SLANT TOP SECRETARY DESK DROP LEAF STYLE SERPENTINE SHAPE FRONT BALL& CLAW FEET This is from the 1940s. It is sturdy. Made of solid wood- some or most of which I believe is mahogany. The desk has a dark stain finish even though some of the photos came out lighter because of the lighting when I took photos. There are antique brass finish handles and hardware on the drawers- one handle is missing. The traditional drop leaf desk/tray and its mechanisms work without problems. The two front legs are ball and claw style- both have some of the finish chipped off of them. Overall, the desk is heavy duty and in sturdy condition with minor wear and tear. This would make a great refinishing project! The desk measures 34" wide x 42" high and about 18" deep. PLEASE EXAMINE PHOTOS FOR THE BEST DESCRIPTION. It does have several light scratches on the top and sides, most of which can be addressed by a quality polishing compound or scratch cover. There are 4 serpentine drawers. Original drawer pulls, ball and claw feet. Missing the key as well as 1 small knob on the inside compartment. A paper label on the back indicates the piece was made by the Northwestern Cabinet Co. of Burlington, Iowa. This company was in business between 1866-1971. All drawers have wooden knobs and are lined with plain or flower print shelving paper. Inside the desk there is plenty of room for writing as well as storing stationary and other writing accessories. Starting in the center are 3 slots for paper followed by four 3" cubby's for pens. Envelopes, stamps, and more. Underneath the cubby's are two 4 1/2" x 5 3/4" small drawers with metal knob. Also.
