The chair shown to give a sense of scale Item# 110105PII25 This is a remarkably well preserved English Georgian Mahogany Kneehole Desk from the third quarter of the 18th century. It is crafted of well figured solid single boards of Mahogany on the top and sides- there is no veneer on this desk. Just solid boards of full grain mahogany. A simply molded edge runs the perimeter of the top, each corner scalloped. Each drawer is hand dovetailed front and back, with thin oak frame construction and thin oak drawer bottoms- all drawers are fully original and lack any adjustments and restorations to the secondary construction. Glowing hand forged brass hardware adorns each drawer. Appearing to have never been removed from the piece. Inside each drawer, as well as the tiny door in the kneehole area, silver metal locks are secured and functional. Each lock appears to be original, each uniquely cut on the right hand corner for all small drawers- it would appear the craftsman was presented with the challenge of making the lock of his choice fit the small space in conjunction with the pull hardware, and overcame this but cutting the corners of each lock. Hand made screws are visible throughout the lock hardware. While we cannot say for certain if the key is original, it is of the period, hand made and very similar in metal color to that of the locks. The sides are panel and the old back also. The back has traces of old white paint. This desk has been used and shows lots of character. I was told it was a quartermaster desk in a railroad. Up for sale I have a very nice Antique Mahogany Kneehole/ Writers Desk in very good condition! It has a few dings and scratches but very minor(see pictures) all drawers have dovetails and the hardware is very nice. This desk has 8 drawers.one drawer sticks. It's probably from age but could very easily be fixed. Top has some very detailed inlay(see pictures) not sure on the maker looks like there was a makers mark at some point inside the right drawer but it has been removed. This impressive desk has a large mahogany top with moulded edge over a central frieze drawer flanked by further deeper drawers and is raised atop beautiful ring turned legs terminating in brass caps. Antique Solid Wood Desk& Wood Chair. Gorgeous burl wood on front of drawers. Top is oak and edges of writing surface are tiger oak. Original mission style mid century wooden handles. Rabbet style joints. The wood is thick and this is a very sturdy. Solid desk. It is stamped 2/3/1944 as the manufacture date. Two of the drawers have built in wooden organizers. Paneled sides and back. The top surface does have some wear and moisture rings which is common with furniture of this age. See photos. All else is in beautiful condition. The vintage chair is solid wood. It is sturdy(does not wobble) They do not make furniture like this any more. Dimensions: 48.5" wide x 24.5" deep x 30.5" tall
